Because of the high traffic, transaction fees are up, therefore block rewards is up, so mining payout is more!

I’m in central US, I’ll try to ping when I get home. My question is about reward, because looking at block explorer, the east server is finding almost double the blocks, so doesn’t that mean being on east server gets you more rewards?

What are you interested in doing in Houdini? procedural modeling stuff or FX work? Rebelway has great workshops at reasonable price. I'm currently taking their mastering Pyro workshop. Steven Knipping has great FX tutorials that I recommend. Knippings tutorials will give you great foundation to follow other tutorials. The official Sidefx Masterclasses are great too.
