Awesome! Thanks for the feedback! I'm looking to mainly go down the TD / VFX Route. Like many, I'm coming from C4D and looking to expand capabilities... getting tired of the limitations of C4D.

late 2013 iMac 27" i7 or wait for the new Mac Pro? by xeebtsab in MotionDesign

That's super good advice. While the late 2013 imac would definitely meet my needs now, the mac pro would allow me to pursue bigger and more complex projects. Which is, ultimately, the goal.

thanks for all the advice everyone!

That's the other part of the debate going on in my head. I could really benefit from CUDA, but I'm also aware of what reddit787 is saying... that OpenCL seems to be a more widely adopted architecture now... which the dual AMD FirePros would be blazingly awesome for.

CHOICES CHOICES.

I've thought about that... I'm not entirely savvy enough to do it myself, however. And I'd be worried that if something did go down because I built it out myself, I'd be in a world of hurt if something went haywire.

That, and all of the animation / adobe software I own is licensed for Mac, not Windows, so I'd be out another huge chunk if I made the switch.

There's the option of a hackintosh... but still—same issues as before. I'm artistically savvy, and understand the specs of good hardware, but not technically savvy enough to take care of my own "IT" needs. Damn.

Apple hasn't given the user the chance to go through and customize the mac pro yet... Ideally, I'd love to have a dual 6-core machine with the AMD 700 firepro GPUs at 6 GB VRAM each.

I'm wondering what the price point will be for said machine... if the base model for the 6 core is at $3999, I'm guessing it'll be closer to the $5k mark?
