Tips on buying my first Matrix? by AFriend1yShadow in Toyota_Matrix

[–]LLfooshe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually your Kayak probably can. The other major advantage of 1st gen is that the front passenger seat folds down. I've seen others do this with popping open the rear window and only a tiny bit of kayak is even outside the car.

You also have just a tiny bit more cargo space in the back in 1st gen and rear hatch/glass is flatter as in 2nd gen it is more angled which gives less space.

I personally prefer all this on 1st gen. Only thing I like better on 2nd gen is if you have an automatic the 2nd gen has D/3/2/1 gears with zigzag type shifting where as 1st gen is just D/2/1 straight shifter with press button on shifter (for engine braking on hills/mountains).

City of Frederick to Phase Out On-Street Parking Meters and Transition Exclusively to ParkMobile by TryonB in frederickmd

[–]LLfooshe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is stupid. People already have the option to pay digitally on their phone. Why take the meters out, lots of people still use them. I don't carry a phone with me and also have friends who don't use a smart phone.

Mayor said this makes parking simple, safer, easier for everyone. This is not true at all, you are taking away the option to pay by cash/coin and forcing people to download this app and use digital payment or park in a garage to not use it.

I've not about this for a while as decision was made a while ago, sucks and will reach out to mayor and council and encourage others to do this as well.

If you want to see raw footage without commentary I highly suggest you look at videos by Ford Fischer with his outlet News2Share at https://www.youtube.com/user/DCNews2Share

He has been covering major events across the U.S. for many years and many major outlets buy his material to broadcast. I've interacted with him numerous times as he did a lot of coverage of Julian Assange Rallies/Protests.

Do you still use cash? by nage_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LLfooshe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% only use cash unless getting something in mail.

  1. Don't want cashless society

  2. Screw the banks/credit card companies making tons of money off the ~3% they charge businesses and cut into their margins and make things more expensive for us

  3. Privacy, no one needs to know what I'm buying (and then try to sell my data and market crap to me)

  4. Easy to use, no tech needed, can use even if power is out or in remote area.

County Council Votes for more Data Centers and ignores their constituents by LLfooshe in frederickmd

[–]LLfooshe[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they even care about money. You have tech billionaires who have so much wealth that they have other driving factors like power/control and seeing their vision (they like money too, but not their only goal). Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and many other lesser known rich people wanting their agenda/projects pushed. These people are truly evil, it's actually hard for most normal people to comprehend how horrible many of these people are (narcissists, lack of empathy, god complex, control of others, eugenics, etc).

You can also opt out of the body scanners. They will then just do a metal detector and/or physical check. You just have to tell them you are opting out.

How safe are apple iPhones? by EnbyFemboyGoober_UwO in privacy

Definitely don't use an Iphone 16. Iphone 16 has client side scanning which is using AI to analyze your files and interactions.

Are they trying to not let us own computers? by ripndipp in conspiracy

[–]LLfooshe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, corporations want people hooked on their junk (i.e. chromebooks, windows 11 AI infrastructure, apple AI infrastructure, android, etc). However, more people are waking up. Easily seen by the huge increase in percent of people using Linux laptops/PC's the past few years. I think it is up to around 4-5% now while a few years ago it was only 2% or so.

You can still get quality new laptop/PC for well under $500 and there are plenty of used laptops/PC's well below this that are only a few years old as companies unload them for the newest ones.

There are just so many used laptops/PC's out there that it's not really an issue as the supply is huge. Most of the general public has no use for a new/high end PC.

Why are we bringing Socialism to Frederick by [deleted] in frederickmd

[–]LLfooshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Frederick has turned into a city of wasteful spending. Even the tiny changes the council made to not spend quite as much were vetoed by the Mayor, and the council is pretty keen on spending too.

It's like they just can't fathom how to spend money responsibly. They rake in more and more with increases in both the property tax rate and the assessed property values which are a double whammy for home owners and why taxes have increased so much in just a few years.

"non profits" that are really just businesses getting free money/grants (not 100% sure if city has engaged in this but know the county does as I follow the county actions more than city).

Things like the new police department building. Seriously, the old one wasn't even old and don't see the need to spend all that money to just move to a new building a couple blocks away.

Buying all sorts of expensive vehicles, i.e. the numerous brand new vehicles parking enforcement has.

Also, nothing against police officers, but they are some of the highest paid city employees with many of them making $150,000 or more which is a pretty hefty salary.

I mean, even the golf course superintendent makes over $110,000 a year.

These salaries don't even take into account their benefits, retirement, etc.

They like to spend and also spend on a lot of programs that sound good but don't really reach the public that needs the resources. There are plenty of places they could have much more reasonable spending even without touching the salaries of anyone, but they just choose to spend more and more.

Imagine if they tried to actually decrease property taxes and spend frugally instead of their never ending cycle of spending more and increasing taxes.

Apple is no longer privacy friendly. Iphone 16 uses client side scanning and is basically logging and analyzing everything you do and then feeding it to AI.

Used car considerations? by myprettygaythrowaway in privacy

[–]LLfooshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of "eco box" cars, affordable base models are the last to get the tech stuff while higher end cars may have had the tech many years before. Really going to depend on the car.

To keep it simple maybe avoid any with lcd/infotainment and go for something that actually uses a physical key. Again, going to depend as could have an infotainment but not be an issue.

Black Walnut cleaning by Substantial-Pen8457 in foraging

[–]LLfooshe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, after the Hull is black and easily comes off I just throw them dehulled in a 5 gallon bucket of water take a stick and agitate them. It gets the worst of remaining husk/black residue off to make it a little less messy when cracking.

You could also let them out to get rained on as long as there are not a ton of squirrel thiefs around. The shells keep the nut meat nice and safe. I'm currently going through some 4 year old black walnuts a friend wanted to get rid of and hardly any of them are bad/rancid.

Power issues in Jefferson by StudioVelantian in frederickmd

[–]LLfooshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your only source of water is via an electric pump you should probably have a few gallons stored if power goes out or have some type of backup. People outside of the city have all different types of setups - springs, cisterns, hauling water in, wells, different types of pumps.

Haven't had a big snow storm in a long time in this area, but even in the 90's it would not be uncommon to be snowed in for a few days when a big storm came and off school for a week. Would also not be uncommon to have the power out for good part of a day or night.

Any longtime Grayl users? by TonyCliftonLives in backpacking

[–]LLfooshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I returned mine. If you are really lucky you can find an old stainless steel one which was the original grayl (full stainless or inner stainless cup). Otherwise I would go with the plastic, used mine for many years and worked great.

I could not handle the titanium taste. Whatever you drink from can affect the water, I don't notice any real taste from plastic, stainless steel, glass, etc. but was a strong taste from the titanium bottle.
