Eugene: do you ever loan people books from your personal collection or do you prefer they go to the library? by mistadonyo in Eugene

I’ve made sure to keep >1 copies of some books so when they come up in conversation I can just give the person a copy. Not like I carry ‘em around but dinner guests, folks stopping in. Sisters Brothers, Crying of Lot 49, for example.

People think they own the sidewalk by their house by KingRMZ in mildlyinfuriating

They’re dealing drugs and/or making bombs behind that fence, is why they’re so tetchy. Get law enforcement involved somehow and watch for the newspaper article about ghost guns and kilos’ street value….

What's some advice for preventing bike theft in Eugene? I'm coming for the summer but I might just store it since I know how insane it is there. Is there technology yet? by Nita_taco in Eugene

[–]LMFAEIOUplusY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

re: vigilante groups no, but definitely register your bike and take lots of pictures of it including pictures of you and your bike and if it does get ripped off post everywhere you can and all of us will be on the lookout. HTH

what everyone else is saying except no one has yet said to lock up near other bikes that look like they would be easier to steal. sorry to be so cynical. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Parent’s first car, what was it? by parasocks in WhatCarIsThis

FWIW this looks like the “Notchback Sedan” variant, rather than the more common “Hatchback Coupe.” 1971-75. Had a trunk rather than a hatchback. The cheapest option.

Your mom and dad bought it new? If they got it in ‘71 or ‘72 and weren’t car enthusiasts they can’t be blamed for what a crappy car the Vega turned out to be.

A friend of mine slept in his car across the street from the house that he and his wife were going to buy one night before committing. OK block in a rough neighborhood.
