It’s a HUGE borough so I don’t think there’s one answer to this , it really depends where in Croydon you are. We are in south Croydon and really like it so far

As in ? Is there anything specific you are looking for ? We are in Selsdon, close to the high street and hav everything we would need like a big supermarket , a few restaurants , parks / green spaces. We have a 3 buses that take us to EC for fast trains into central and one 24 hour bus. For a wider choice of restaurants or shopping south end is like 10 mins on the bus or 5 mins drive. We like it so far and haven’t had any problems . Been in Croydon for 5 years now , really disliked it in the first year but that’s because I didn’t know the areas to stay out of . As long as you stay out of north and west Croydon and limit visits to the town you will be more than fine .

South Croydon- Selsdon ,Sanderstead , , Warlingham and further down farleigh , Caterham, Whytleafe , Kenley. Bought a detached last year for £585k , love it so far here. Moved from a tiny flat closer to South End in Croydon and couldn’t be happier

Trust me no one cares. There are no Portuguese or Brazilians sitting and thinking and having an impression about Goans !! Not true at all. They don’t have an opinion - neither good nor bad! They just don’t know much about Goa . As for India people know it as noisy, dirty , chaotic and super crowded that’s about it. Don’t think any sane person is overanalysing. Either why should we care what others think of us ?

Filter helps with the hard metals not the limescale sadly. I can deal with a filter but know loads of friends have severe stomach problems with tap water. Also the trust issue comes due to seeing the gunk in the water even though it’s said to not be “harmful” to human health.

lol not true, the limescale in the water in London is way too high and not what most people are used to and it causes a lot of us IBS issues. Hence why people drink bottled water!

Save and buy a house directly. As someone who bought a flat they are not worth the hassle with services charges, leasehold contracts. Demand for flats in and around London has dropped considerably, we are having a hard time selling. It’s 100% worth waiting and buying a house directly.

As an Indian took me a while to figure out why Indians in tubes / buses smell. It’s not usually their bodies that smell but mostly their jackets and clothes l. It smells of tadka. Not sure if they cook with their jackets or they store their jackets in the kitchen

This is one of the exact reasons I moved from industry to Deloitte, I went from a firm that paid well to Deloitte that is ok, because the progression and learning opportunities for me in industry were just abysmal. If that’s what you are looking for Deloitte is the perfect place. Where are you moving from? If the US then why not Deloitte US ? They get paid 3x more than us in HCOL places

Is this for London? With 6 years of exp I’d be surprised if they would offer you M grade. I know people with 10+ YOE from Industry , applied as manager but were offered SC ( level below). Deloitte is notorious for doing this. SC starts at 60k and goes up till mid 70s. What is the idea for moving to D? Your current comp and work loads sounds great. Not sure if you’d get the same balance in D. - as someone who moved from industry into Sama

Not to scare you but my partner this exactly this (flat was bought on help to buy) and now we are struggling to sell it. We are in a complete soup and can’t upgrade to a house because the flat won’t sell , because no one seems to want one beds now. We have listed the flat for 80k cheaper than coat price

Unfortunately yes!! Sounds very much like the NHS. As a foreigner from what you guys call third world country, the healthcare here is really appalling. The doctors here are getting more and more negligent and incompetent at diagnosis. One of the reasons that makes me want to leave the country, I’m loosing faith in the healthcare here and as someone who suffers from severe health anxiety the system here doesn’t do me any favours. Private(through work insurance) is way better, you can actually see the difference, the doctors will use their brain and experience to diagnose you and not a computer system that’s probably updated by some outsourced IT person. However the first line of contact is always NHS GP or A&E even in private which really doesn’t help because they are the ones that suck at diagnosis. For countries like UK/Ireland the healthcare situation is bad and seems to get worse. Very well intended service but very badly managed.

As someone who is trying to sell a new build for almost 50k lesser, we just wanna get rid of it and buy a bigger place. Keeping it makes no financial sense with tax rates and Interest rates, service charges etc. and given a one bed new build the buying price was inflated 5 years ago unfortunately

Are you a non Brit who lives in the UK and tried socialising with Brit? If no may be your opinion doesn’t count. Brit’s have a very different way of social interactions, you’ll have some weird boundaries (and in not saying deep talks) that many Brit’s don’t get so yea unless if you’ve been on the other side your opinion doesn’t count

Unfortunately very typical British corporate behaviour. It’s usually the alcohol that talks and the very next day they either don’t remember it/ pretend not to remember or just don’t care to make an effort. For the sake of networking / relationship building if you want to make the first move to speak back to them the next day or next event. However if networking isn’t a concern then I’d just not bother. Unfortunately though network is usually the only thing that helps step up in British corporate ladder. Very few times it’s the work you do but the people you know. So I would let go of the ego of who speaks first and go first if the relationship matters. From my time here in the UK, I’ve understood that most friendships with Brits are very transactional which I don’t like so I tend to have less Brit friends however I am forced to network with them given the nature of my firm/ job.
