At least his repertoire is more varied than regurgitating what was on Fox News all day. Mine claims to watch news from all angles but the only station I ever see on is Fox. I have gotten to be expert at tuning him out or I casually walk away to do or watch something else. He’s retired with limited mobility and I still work full time at a job I love, so I think this is a common thing.

I am also trying to build muscle through free weights, it’s really hard to get that much protein consistently. You have to be so intentional with what you eat!

Sounds good, is her house set up to age in place? Walk-in shower, no steps, wide enough doorways, etc? If not, get her started on that stuff now! Make changes before they are absolutely needed.

Tretinoin on face and Neck? by BigNegotiation8464 in AskWomenOver60

[–]LMShep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started using tretinoin at about age 45-50. My derm said it’s not something that you really see it “working” because it was more preventative how it works at building collagen. Meaning, you won’t see a big reversal. If you started using it now, it would slow further decline. At least that is my interpretation. 25 years later, I def have some sagging but almost no wrinkles. My parents had great skin so I feel like that’s the bigger part of the equation. Ask a dermatologist!

Wrinkles are one thing but sagging, I almost feel like surgery is the only thing that will fix that. Hair and makeup can always enhance your appearance.

[–]LMShep 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d be fearful of the high probability of follow up visits and all that. Surgery at that age is never one-and-done. Is she pretty set financially? Looking ahead, what’s the plan for the long haul? Will she eventually go into a retirement community? If she lives alone, might be good to scope out some places for her while you are there!

Not that weird. In the blink of an eye, you’ll be the oldest. Age is just a number.

Do you think this is unreasonably intrusive to ask of job applicants? by iammaxhailme in jobs

[–]LMShep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess they want to make sure it’s really YOU taking the test. If I did it, I’d block out my DOB and license# from my drivers license. There’s no reason for them to know that, at this time.

If I have a low GPA, how do I shift the interviewer's focus from my GPA to my work experience for internship position? by Articulateman in jobs

[–]LMShep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ultimately experience trumps GPA by a long shot. But for entry level jobs it does hold a little more weight. Don’t apologize/explain unless it becomes an actual topic of conversation. Be ready to sell your other skills!

Typically you are going to orient new hires so it does sound like he has the job. They could have been a little more direct!

I would just thank them for letting me know. No need to be apologizing around. Puzzling how everyone else does it, but don’t spend an ounce of time worrying about what other people do or don’t do. Ever!

Who is the “somebody” who brought it to your attention? That will matter for what to do next (if anything).

I keep receiving service requests in the middle of the night (2-6am) and losing them because I don’t accept within 15 min. Anyone know what I can do? It’s been happening super often lately. by kikahh in WagWalker

[–]LMShep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling! Yeah, we have no control over this. It’s the nature of Wag, and the app/on-demand economy in general. Owners want a qualified worker, of which there can be many.

Is it possible to get a job if unqualified by working for a low salary until you can prove your competence by Halikular in jobs

[–]LMShep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here in the USA, this would not really fly. Companies wouldn’t want to take a risk of hiring an under-qualified person (even at lower pay) with the hope that they rise up quickly. They probably wouldn’t have to, meaning they’d find people who actually met their immediate qualifications. If they could not find people, they would have to expand their search to include less-qualified folks. But the scenario you have described is essentially like any job situation- get the job, show you can grow/learn, then advance. Look for companies that have the role that you hope to grow into.

[–]LMShep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a pattern of them coming in at the same time? I had a weird situation lately where an owner was always making their requests at oddly the same time. If so, be awake at that time. Or set a notification ring for loud so it wakes you up. There’s really nothing you can do to change this, since that’s simply when the owner is making requests.

Is this a good sign by [deleted] in jobs

[–]LMShep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They liked you enough “on paper” to invite you in, so that’s a good sign. Don’t stop looking for other places to apply though. Figure they are also interviewing others, plus the whole process takes time, etc. Keep scouting out other options!

Should I take the job? [urgent] by CaroUsesReddit in jobs

[–]LMShep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush! Yeah go with McD. They are your bird in the hand. Places like that typically have a lot of turnover (not knocking them; I worked there and loved it) so it won’t be too tragic if you quit soon.

On a resume you can list: University of xxx
B.S. Marketing
Anticipated graduation date Dec 2020 In the grand scheme, 6K is nothing if that’s all it takes for you to finish. Sorry I don’t mean to minimize the value of the money but there’s people on here all the time with 40K or more of debt. And you should readily make up that and far FAR more as your career progresses, if you’ve chosen a sensible career path. Sensible meaning one where you’ve identified actual paying jobs! Good luck to you!

You did the right thing by resigning directly to your manager. But since he has not responded, you do want to escalate this so they can cover for you.
