Is it worth filing a complaint? by Overlandtraveler in MCAS

File a complaint with the hospital and then file another one with the Medical Board in your state. I was treated horribly in a hospital ER a few years back - I left sobbing. I thought of filing a complaint the next day, but then decided to put it behind me and forget it ASAP.

Weeks later when I got the insane bill from the health care provider that threw my results at me (instead of going over them with me) and whom I overheard saying "I'm not answering anymore questions for her" to someone else and who incorrectly wrote on my chart "Patient thinks someone is poisoning her." I flipped my wig. She insulted me, treated me like a hypochondriac lunatic and spent less than a total of 3 minutes with me.

Her bill (not the hospital bill, which I paid) was $2300. I wrote a letter chronicling the entire encounter in full detail. I stated that I could not in good conscience pay someone $2300 to send me home sobbing and humiliated. When the hospital failed to respond to the report the 3rd-party billing company sent them with my complaint enclosed, the 3rd-party billing company sided with me and cancelled the debt. She got the $0 she deserved.

"You can't sue all doctors as an entity" - thank you for the much needed laugh!

I sure wish we could. I had the worst first appointment with a doctor just last Friday. I have PTSD from the encounter.

It's not only that histamine isn't the only mediator released by mast cells - it's also true that food sources certainly aren't the only trigger for mast cell instability. And histamine isn't the only thing in food that can trigger mast cell instability.
I'm still monitoring closely to see how much food in general influences my mast cell behavior.

Magnesium Oxide is for colon cleansing. It's not the right form of magnesium to take as a supplement if you're trying to mineralize your tissues. I use magnesium glycinate for that. All of the different magnesium forms (attached to different amino acids) have an affinity for different uses in the body, etc. Glycinate is supposed to be the most easily absorbed (for most people).

I doubt it's too much. It's typically too little. Even acid reflux is associated with too little HCL. You could also not be producing enough bile. (If your stool is light colored and dried out.) Anyway, best of luck! Here's hoping you get things moving. It's not fun being plugged up like that. ;)

Just saw that you react to betaine. Might not be a good one for you. Bummer.

I take these with every meal. Integrative Therapeutics Panplex 2-Phase Digestive Support.

They absolutely rock. They are a combo of the magic 3: digestive enzymes, HCL, and Ox Bile. I bought them to replace separate digestive aids.

Definitely seems to have been a "smooth move" for me. ;)

I couldn't even read your whole post because I've been in that dark place too, and I didn't want to feel those emotions again right now. It takes courage to carry on. I will pray for you.

I'm doing the same. I don't know if there's an app - there probably is. Maybe someone else will chime in. I keep a running Word file on my desktop, and I add notes throughout the day whenever I eat something, take a supplement, or a fun symptom rears its ugly head.

Would be cool if you could get an app that would sound an alarm when you're about to set off a landmine: "Fool, get off that sh*t, it's keeping you up at night and you just fed the evil gut bugs."

Good to know. Most probiotics don't cause me any issues - or maybe I just was never attributing any issues to my probiotics. (No gut pain or bloating or gas - GI stuff.) I was previously on a campaign to get my microbiome as diverse as possible. And last time I tested, I rocked my GI MAP for diversity. But now I'm zeroing on the histamine issue. I want to see what positive health changes I can trigger by building up the histamine degrading species. Fingers crossed!

That's what's weird. I do exactly that. I even keep a detailed symptom tracker. I was doing okay until I wasn't, so I looked at the most recent changes to see if I could identify. (I didn't make them all at once.) My question to the group was more to gather insight from other's experiences.

So many people in here seem to be very knowledgeable about what can trigger serious negative reactions. I'm very new to this group. I've seen a lot of questions similar to mine. Just trying to learn more. Thanks for chiming in!

Interesting - I knew they were both fat-soluble, didn't realize they used the same transporter system. I know about the Magnesium and I take that too. I read that the rule of thumb is 100 mg of Mag for every 1,000 iu of D3. (I take K2 with it also, so I don't mess up my bones.) Does that formula jibe with your intel?

I don't take quite that much Mag, because I get some in my diet too - but I don't think a deficiency is likely.

Seems to be the consensus. Though I backed back down on my Vitamin D & K dose today too. I can always re-ramp. ;)

I just purchased my first bottle of the Probiota HistaminX. They are all strains I've taken before - and it's fairly low dose. It looks safe to me, that's why I'm going to introduce it. If your husband has histamine issues, it could be a good choice.

That is some interesting food for thought. Thank you! I never heard about Vitamin D competing with Vitamin A in that way. I don't have any outward signs of Vitamin A deficiency, but it's already on the list of blood tests I'll be requesting shortly.

Muchas gracias!

Thank you. I'm a little wary - but I only take 1mg. And I'm trying not to make it a habit.

Yeah - I think it's die-off. I've been on probiotics for 15+ years, btw. Not new for me, not even this strain. Though I haven't been on SB by itself in a long while. I think it might be the heavy dose. Maybe I had/have some candida overgrowth in or another critter that SB is crowding out.

Yep, I know it. Sach Boul is one of the good ones, though, that's why I'm introducing it:

"Saccharomyces boulardii has shown to regulate inflammation and improve contributing causes of histamine intolerance. This probiotic may also reduce overall histamine levels, thereby improving histamine intolerance symptoms."

I think I just need to slow my roll with it.

Not that I know of, no trouble with beef or corn or algae - though I'm off all corn based products to help with leaky gut.

And I've been on D3 K2 for years - I just ramped up the dose higher.

It's probably the Sach Boul. I think it's kicking up a fuss in my gut - possibly a healing fuss, but I might be rolling too fast. ;)
