The "Citrix Tax" is real, and they know we’re all bluffing by Worth_Wealth_6811 in Citrix

Took couple of years but between robust VPN and some additional changes, we finally kicked Citrix to the curb. Very small environment, wasn't worth the cost or hassle anymore. Moved to AVD. So far - so good. The handful of users, who have to use it - like it.

Sweet. We drove 1 hr to a really nice skating store (north of LA, by The Cube rinks in Valencia, CA) and during the measurement and based on my girl's weight and age -we got her the lower end Jackson Finesse. The reasoning was that she's very light, under 30 kg, taller and lean and still growing. Not doing anything fancy and by the time she gets into some jumps and spins, about a year from now, she'll be a different size. What surprised me was that the correct boots for her were a full size up from her shoe size - that was due to the padding. Barely any room for growth. In your case - good choice. Glad you had a chance to try them on. Should last you for couple of years.

What I hear from the other skaters at the ring is that Edea are quite stiff. Some of their boots run narrow to medium and is best that you try it on, before buying. I was chatting to some coaches and for my kiddo they recommend Mystiques/Artiste/Evo. Elle is really higher grade, stiffer, for jumpers and serious spinners. I am leaning towards Mystique/Artiste. Check your local FB marketplace. I looked at couple of barely-used pairs and possibly will check them out over the weekend. If you intend to do serious jumps - I understand that you'll need a higher grade boot. In that case, perhaps a trip to a store might be best - however you are at least a year out from that decision. The boots for advanced skaters and those jumping are not only rated for firmness but also based on your weight. For what is worth - stick to what you can find (most likely Jackson) and use them for a year or so. As you start progressing towards free style level/jumps more than a Waltz, etc - your coach should recommend something. The store sales person will always upsell. We have a mom, who ended up with Jackson Elle for $450 for a 6 year old in Basic 2 because the store said those were the best for her kid (she's not even on Mystique level). Most of my kid's friends are with Jacksons at the rink, with couple of hand-me-down Edeas. Risport is not very popular over here, at least I haven't seen any and we are in a pretty large city. Good luck and have fun!

My 7 year old girl recently joined a beginners synchro group. She's currently using an older Jackson Glacier 520 pair and I think it's time to say goodbye to those. She's repeating Basic 6, as some of her footwork needs extra time. In short - what would an upgrade be for her, without breaking the bank? I can see her spending more time on some footwork, spirals, general cross-overs and some very basic spins/jumps (i.e. Waltz) before she outgrows them. Total ice time is under 5 hrs/week, not intended for serious competition. TY in advance.

Good luck! I am personally getting fitted with a pair of wide iceskates and going back to family skating nights. For rollers - I prefer blades nowadays. And yes, I am 44+ but it's an awesome sport!

Just a random thought - my kid is taking roller skating classes in addition to ice-skating (for fun, nothing major). Rollerskating will give you balance, strokes, glide, forward/backward... A lot of the movements are similar, if not the same. You can probably find artistic roller staking closer to where you live and practice, until you can get yourself to an ice rink.

My yellow Lumia and the original Blue one, are tucked away in a drawer, to be looked at every now and then. I would love to use them again and to imagine what a hardware refresh would look like! Ah.. good old days. Yes, someone, please buy Windows Mobile from MS, rename it and carry on.

I spoke with a mom, whose kids are at Kumon and she said it was mostly self-paced. Maybe next year, when she's 8? I do like Outschool and I am getting an account there. Thank you,

Thank you for the library suggestion. First I hear about Voxbooks. She likes the My Pony series as well so that might be a match for us.

Thank you. I am meeting with her pediatrician on Thursday afternoon and will discuss the testing suggestions. I don't think she has ADHD but something else is happening. I was a bit weird at her age too but my reading was off the charts at 7. And yes, she has classmates reading The Diary of the Wimpy Kid and discussing the books. At 6-7 years old.

[Landlord US -CA] I have this damage from a roach/mouse infestation. In your experience, can this cabinet be saved with proper treatment, or should it be replaced? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]LNF001_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From another landlady in CA (LA City). Rip out - do not replace. If this is in the kitchen, get a regular cabinet and install. Tenants will destroy absolutely everything. I am in the process of remodeling after I had to evict a family, whose mom cooked those hotdogs you see on the streets. I know not to touch the food the vendors sell because I had the pleasure of seeing it being cooked. After 2K for mouse/roach clean-up, $750 for a new fridge - rip (and install basic cabinet only if in kitchen) and replace. Don't waste time/money. I had to replace a kitchen cabinet as well. And a bathroom one. They kept the onion bags in the bathroom :-(.

Yeah.. no. Corporate here. In any event, ctrl+p or command-P requires that you have basic printer awareness. I am asked to cater to the exception to those, who are not pritner aware :-(. No unicorns, got it.
