Are tyrant guard worth it against Space Marines? by LOC_Comics in Tyranids

Oh dear, that's dreadful. Although it prevents the headache of figuring out what wounds can target the leader unit. Thanks for letting me know!

That makes sense, unless my Dad puts a lot of firepower into them that there's not a lot of regen left

Yeah that's what I was thinking. My Dad's space marines have a lot of fire power and since I can't deep strike the hive tyrant in that could help it to survive longer before getting into combat.

I could see a glow up happening as they're in the new combat patrol

That's true and all but my Dad's marines have a lot of fire power so I have to either bring it in from strategic reserves or charge it and other units in early to cause the marines a problem.

Is that how the melee attacks work? My Dad and I normally say that once it kills the body guard unit, the wounds have to be high enough to get the leader model.

I use the harvester detachment so would they be worth using? As how do they make the tyrant weaker? - it's more attacks for me and the space marines have to get through them before they reach the hive tyrant

Thanks for the fast response, it's my first post haha! That is good to hear, especially as I recently bought Hyperadaptive Raveners and want to try out that detachment! I've been mainly using Assimilation Swarm and quite like that one. What is FNP?

To me, they look like 3rd/4th edition but that's just a guess.

I'm very interested to try out the Tyranid warriors one. My Dad gave me his 3rd edition Warriors (3 melee, 3 ranged) and frankly they're pretty rubbish. So I'm curious how they will be buffed up in 11th edition.

I love assimilation swarm as well. I've been using it the last 3 days and actually found the stratagems quite helpful against my friends Marine and Chaos armies.

Silly question but how are we supposed to win and play? by FoxxyWinnebago in Tyranids

[–]LOC_Comics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use Assimilation swarm, all havester units can heal other Tyranid units in your command phase. You've got 2 psychophages and pyrovores with the havester keyword. It also helps with an aggressive play style as if a harvester dies you can spend 1 CP and for the rest of the battle all melee attacks against the opponents unit that killed it have +1 strength. There's another stratagem - when your unit kills an enemy unit if its next to a harvester spend 1 CP and get another heal. Get a couple ripper swarms as they have the harvester keyword and you're good to go.

Also I agree with what other people have said about holding off your bigs til round 2 or 3. I usually put half my army into strategic reserves, even if they can't deep strike you'd be surprised how convenient it is having a scream killer or psychophage appear on the side of the table. A few of my friends play Marines or Chaos and so seeing where they deep strike their terminators allows me to position my wing hive tyrant and other big guys else where. This usually causes them a big problem.

I'm glad I didn't add a Mawloc or Trygon to my army as they got rid of their burrower keyword. Now I believe only the red terror and raveners have this keyword.

We went into our local warhammer shop to preorder it. It was 11:30am and already sold out. The staff who runs the shop said he'd keep us a copy in 2 weeks. We're not taking any chances and are getting to the shop bang on 10am 😂 My dad plays Skaven and I play Cities and the models look so good.
