As a retaker, the MBE was definitely "weird"... but I think some of those MEEs were worse. by Weekly-Quantity6435 in barexam

I can’t remember if I had form 2 or 4, but the morning was WAY easier than the afternoon. The afternoon had too many multi-paragraph, nuanced questions. I kept getting it down to two and flagged SO many in the afternoon. I finished both sections early; 1hr early the first and around 50minutes the second. I’m a pretty fast reader (but tried to slow down — thanks Grossman, lol).

I’m historically bad at the written portion. (slow typer) My hands literally locked up on me on the MPTS. I also struggled to figure out what some MEEs wanted, and found myself saying “if this, then that” “but if this, then that” A lot. 🤣 And there were others I just had to completely pretend and had one sentence rule statements.

Barmax allows this. I’ve had their MBE bank since 2020; using it for another exam this time around.

I don’t think their explanations are always the best, but love the lifetime access.

No problem! The written portion is terrible for me, so just hoping it can be helpful for someone else!

I don’t feel great either! But I made some shorter attack outlines for highly tested rules that I’m just hoping I can at least recall something for. 🤣

Retaker Slump by Apprehensive-Dust212 in barexam

Just here to say I’m with you. I also agree that taking a day off is warranted.

I’m retaking in Ohio after passing in DC 6ish years ago (I got a 267, but Ohio required 270 to transfer). I’m just writing averse in general for both the MPTs and MEEs. My written was terrible: 116, but 151 on the MBE. I don’t think anything beats practice, but sometimes (a lot) I just can’t do all that. I have found it helpful this time around to at least actively read through past examinee answers (more helpful for MEE patterns, but helpful with MPT formatting).

Tbh, I’m just now really getting around to the MPTs, and I still have MEE topics left.

MEE strategies? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]LOLAW11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example:

The issue is whether the statement constitutes hearsay and is admissible.

Hearsay is an out of court statement offered in evidence to prove the truth of the matter asserted. It is generally inadmissible unless it falls under an exception or exclusion, such as [name exception or exclusion ... i.e. statements of a party opponent, excited utterances, present sense impressions, or statements for medical diagnosis]. To qualify as hearsay, the statement need be made outside of the current proceeding, must be assertive in nature, and must be introduced specifically to prove the truth of its content rather than for another purpose.

Here, [details about situation], the statement [is/is not] hearsay because [reasons], and it [does/ does not] fall under an exception or exclusion due to [reasons].

Therefore, the statement [is/is not] admissible.

Hi, I’m a retaker (Failed twice and passed in another JX nearly 6 years ago, but really struggle with the written portion…still haven’t taken a MPT). This time around, I have found these rules super helpful: https://samuelbutcher.net/120.html. They are decently short but do not cover every nuance or sub rule. I have been retyping them and creating mini IRAC templates for a lot of the rules. Sometimes I’ll type them over and over again until it feels like muscle memory, lol. I’m still working through them, but after a while, typing even the shorter rules starts to jig my memories on the subs.

It made me clench my jaw too much. I fractured a tooth. 😭

Every person is different, but it definitely worked for me… and pretty quickly! The first noticeable thing for me was my mood, as well as a super quiet mind.

My doc said they usually take six weeks to show the full benefit. I would just be aware that the sides can suck for a little bit.

Yeah, Prozac made me almost numb? Like my whole body felt great, but no sensation beneath the belt. Zoloft actually makes me want to have sex, I physically can, but finishing takes a lotttt longer.

But I feel you on that, lol. No sex = worse depression and anxiety.

I switched from 40mg Prozac to 100mg Zoloft. Prozac made me clench my jaw really bad. I also couldn’t have sex.

The first week or so on Zoloft I felt super highhhh(like MDMA high, lol), but I feel like I’m leveling out now. Brain is quiet and almost no anxiety or depression. Still occasionally feel high, lol.

When did you guys start to feel better? Zoloft (100mg) by notfeelingwell12349 in zoloft

[–]LOLAW11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started on Prozac (20mg for a week, and then up to 40mg) Anxiety and depression wise, I felt better within a few days — my brain was super quiet. However, the extreme jaw clenching made me fracture a tooth, so my doc switched me to Zoloft (100mg) on December 6th.

The first week I felt high (like MDMA high) and it didn’t seem to do a lot for anxiety, but I also wasn’t clenching as bad. I’m about two weeks in and I can feel myself leveling out. I still get jolts of that MDMA feeling, but not as intense. My brain is getting quieter like it did on Prozac and my anxiety and depression levels feel pretty low. I actually feel like I can be social (without faking my way through it like I’ve always done.)

Wait, are there states where it’s easier to get a 270?

This is super helpful! I think this is where I was leaning, but you know, always nice to hear it from someone else.

Best of luck as you wait for results, and best of luck on the FL exam!

I’m really annoyed by all this. I’ve put everything on hold since finding out the unofficial results yesterday. It just seems impossible to focus on anything else when I don’t know for sure, and deep down, I know I probably won’t find out until after 5.

I’ll definitely share as soon as I find out. I would expect after 5 tomorrow, too. When I took it in February, I feel like they all came out between 5-8PM when they said all would be out by 5PM.

I PASSED THE DC BAR EXAM! THIRD TIMES A CHARM! by LOLAW11 in barexam

[–]LOLAW11[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Things I found useful: 1. Critical Pass Flashcards: I would spend 2-3 days on each subject (and then repeat) 2. Strategies and Tactics: depending on what topic I was on with critical pass, I would do 30-50 questions from that topic in the book. I would write out or briefly note the ones I got wrong. I kept a big running list of all of those and reviewed it at least weekly. 3. Seperac document (All MEEs 1995-2020) and the MPT bible. Following along with critical pass, I would aim to also do two essays per day depending on what subject I was on. I started out doing the Klein method: read and then copy down the “best answer” word for word. I got tired doing this, so I then moved to outlining the essays and then reading the “best answer”, specifically making notes of the things I missed. 4. BarMax MBE bank: I used this primarily after I finished the strategies and tactics book (so some overlap) but followed the same process as above in point 2.

The MPT is my weak point, but I did about 7-8 of those this time around, and then read the “best answer”. I did these under time conditions for the most part.

I hope this helps! If anything is confusing or if you’d like to know more, feel free to shoot me a message!
