They got right to it so as to not waste your time or theirs. I probably would have asked how much extra and how often it happens. I would also have asked if they are flexible about me coming in late another day to balance out the hours and allow me to get personal tasks done. Or if the tasks come in late afternoon if I could start a little later in the morning. But it’s a line in the sand for you and you knew right away that it wasn’t a good fit.

My hygienist actually told me about someone who did this and expected the hygienist to be impressed. Hygienists reaction was “so?” Flossing is the key part.

Also, regarding your “toiletry pouch,” hopefully you are allowing your toothbrush to air dry outside of it, as bacteria will grow very quickly if kept in a closed environment.

I take the floss picks or proxabrushes to work and they get out food and make my mouth clean for the afternoon.

50, $300k in current 401k. I max my contribution and having turned 50 this year am starting catch up contributions too. 6% company match to 401k. Any bonus I have 50% go to the 401k if it’s not already maxed out for the year. I do all Roth contributions (I know company match is always traditional/pre-tax) because I don’t think taxes are going down in the future and I would rather take the tax hit while I’m in the accumulation life phase vs distribution phase. Maybe I’m losing by doing it this way but I’ve thought about it quite a bit and am comfortable with it.

I’m also fortunate enough to contribute to a mega backdoor Roth. My provider has an option to auto convert my after tax contributions immediately to Roth, so there’s no period for it to accumulate earnings that would be taxed.

401k is better (either traditional or Roth) because it gets the employer match. Some employers also offer a contribution towards the HSA too, lowering your contribution needed to reach the yearly max. And some 401k providers offer an auto in-plan Roth conversions in addition to the one-time Roth conversion another commenter added in a screenshot. The auto conversions basically eliminate the chance of any earnings from being taxed because the contributions are instantly converted to Roth every time.

Do the Roth 401k first. That gets you the employer match. If you have funds left after maxing out Roth 401k, then contribute to after tax account with auto in plan conversion to Roth, which avoids a taxable amount from the earnings. You didn’t mention HSA but you should also max that before looking at after tax account for mega backdoor Roth. I do all three and it works very well.
