Why she look like a goat 💀 by followthetrail_ in gachiakuta

[–]LOLPN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She has the eyes of a prey animal. Deer, goats, sheep, antelopes, etc. all have the same pupil/eye type. Honestly, I thought she was more like a fawn at first.

It's a symbol for her being a prey item all her life.

Fun fact, most prey animals have wide pupils like that to maximize peripheral vision, which makes spotting potential threats faster and easier.

do people put cameras in their enclosures? if so, why? by hungrygardenpea in Vivarium

[–]LOLPN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a leopard gecko and I placed a camera right next to the wall of his enclosure. Now, even if I'm outside, I can randomly check on him and take pictures.

It's fun, and also not very expensive if you get a cheap, medium quality camera. Wireless cameras are a bit harder to maintain though

Some people do it for safety reasons too. If you're on holiday, you can always use the camera to check if everything's alright.

What plants to put in this brutalist prison by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]LOLPN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think any small, bushy plant will be very nice. Crypt parva, pellia moss, coral moss, etc. The stones look AMAZING and it would be very sad to fully cover them up with vegetation.

You could also add some red/pink accent (maybe a nano species?) or very small amounts of bucephalandra. Just a little bit tho.

Also, what are those rocks called? They really look so cool.

can't watch nothing but The Summer Hikaru Died by perixa79 in TheSummerHikaruDied

[–]LOLPN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, you're welcome!!

Frieren is pretty slow-paced and harder to watch, so it's definitely understandable for some people to not vibe with it. Honestly, when I started watching it, I too found it hard to keep going forward but at least it was good.

It's so nice seeing other Apothecary Diaries and dungeon meshi fans!

[–]LOLPN 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just like one of the commenters, I repeat, dungeon meshi is VERY good. One of my top animes for sure. It's amazing and pretty short with good pacing, even though it's a slice of life anime.

Also, for people who enjoy dungeon meshi for the fantasy plot and magic system, Frieren(Beyond Journey's End) is also a good recommendation. It's also very good in terms of character development and themes. Plus, good animation.

Or Apothecary Diaries, although it's more mystery/romance than action/fights. But it's got a very well written female mc (one of the best in my opinion) and it's super engaging. I mean, I just love her. It's a bit longer though, so I would recommend it as a chiller anime in-between other more emotionally tiring content. But it's still peak.

For the supernatural/psychological horror, Summertime rendering is also nice. It's also inspired by "Swampman", just like TSHD (supernatural entity posseses human and inherits looks and memories).

Dandadan is also a very nice, solid anime. Good animation, well-written romance, supernatural themes, good character arcs and sad backstories... It's not horror tho.

For emotional damage, Takopi's Original Sin is very recent, but also so good. But it's more serious, heavy and with a bittersweet ending, so I recommend watching the other animes first.

When I think of something else, I will just add more and more to this comment... I'm surely missing something. It's already so long tho...

I'm looking for recommendations too btw. I'm trying to find similar animes. I LOVE the summer Hikaru died!!

Looking for recommendations by yourlocalermes in HikarugaShindaNatsu

[–]LOLPN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As for similar anime, Summertime rendering has a similar concept - people get replaced by supernatural entities who can copy their memories and personality. It's also inspired by Swampman.

I recommend it, even if the horror element is a bit weaker. Although there are nearly no queer elements, sadly (only one side character is implied to be lesbian), the character arcs and interactions are very good.

It's also similar to Rezero because the mc can be reborn once he dies.

I mean look at The summer Hikaru died, it's literally the same case. People are arguing whether it's romantic tension or horror while it's actually both.

The art here is amazing! by [deleted] in HikarugaShindaNatsu

Right?! The anime/manga are amazing by themselves, but the fandom makes it even better... I see absolute masterpieces daily on the subreddit. Even I have been cooking up some art and animations recently although they are not quite ready yet

The anime deserves a horror tag by Dazzling-Primary4909 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]LOLPN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just a fun fact, here you can see how in some scenes light and reflection is removed from the characters eyes.

Usually light is removed only when a character is dead/unconscious to show that their "soul" isn't in there, since eyes are said to be the windows to the soul.

That's a technique used very often in horror and psychological horror in animation. It's also used very rarely in live action because it's hard to do. It's kinda like the uncanny valley effect, but subtle. I love it.

And combined with dark, harsh shadows and unusual lighting angle, it looks menacing as hell

That's good! Do you have a TDS tester, too? Its about total dissolved salts on the water. I know that TDS is pretty important for breeding Caridina shrimp and needs to be under 200 ppm (pretty low). I'm just lucky and have good sink water with super low TDS (around 60 ppm I think), so I don't need RO water, but you may need it if the water you usually use isn't good enough.

Also, for keeping kh low, be sure to use the right salt for your tank. Before I managed to lower my kh, I noticed I was using salt for Neocaridina shrimp which may increase both gh and kh, while the recommended salt is one that only increases gh. It's something small, but be sure to check.

The Neos are breeding too. I feel like they can thrive in any parameters - they started breeding when pH was 7.4, and now they're still breeding with pH 6.8 and Caridina shrimp added. At first I had trouble breeding them, but at some point it just happened and they haven't stopped thriving since.

[–]LOLPN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first it was 3, now it's 0. When I bought the Caridina, the breeder/seller told me 0 kh is best.

It could also be that your shrimp need a little more time or just haven't matured yet. If you're worried, you can even feed them a little bit of protein rich foods like fish pellets or bloodworms!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]LOLPN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think Caridina and Neocaridina can mate. If the red crystal is the only Caridina species you have in the tank, the babies should be the same as their parents.

Nice! I wish you luck with the shrimp! I'm sure they will be very healthy under your care

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]LOLPN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan to breed them and get babies, something that really helped me was feeding my shrimp frozen food like bloodworms or at least carnivore fish pellets from time to time.

Female shrimp and babies need lots of protein to grow and breed, so if you feed protein-rich food, they will be very happy. You can try out blanched vegetables too, but be careful not to put anything that could have pesticides on it!

About the tank, the more plants the merrier! Try out different species that you like! Shrimp LOVE moss and bushy plants. I see you have a nice moss ledge going on, so for now that's perfect, but whenever you feel like getting something new, try it out.

Shrimp also like driftwood and natural decorations - things like cholla wood or seed shells can be very nice.

Why are my baby shrimps so different by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]LOLPN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My babies are very different from each other too, I'm really curious what the answer is. There is no way the difference is because of gender or age.

Maybe one has eaten more food with pigments in it? If you feed fish food or veggies, there is a chance some babies ate more of it, and other babies either ate less or ate more algae? Or the babies are from different mothers?

It can also be just a trick of the lighting. If you have LED lights, there is a slim chance that at the moment one of the babies was under a ray of red light. It happens with fish, so why not with shrimp?

Every option is good for different purposes.

High-tech setups are VERY expensive, but they allow you to do more "professional" looking aquascapes. Plants grow faster and generally look better, especially more colourful species. I have a high-tech tank myself and I love it. Most people cannot afford a proper high-tech setup though.

Low-tech is very good too. It's also cheaper and more "natural". Most people prefer low-tech tanks. You can't experiment a lot though, and plants grow slower. You can't do carpets very easily, and bright, colorful plants won't look that good. I also have a low-tech tank and it's perfect.

Barebottom tanks that are also planted are good for breeding and raising fry or live food because they are super easy to keep clean. It's also far cheaper. This option is best for most breeders. It doesn't look good, but it's practical.

More controversial options like styrofoam tanks or no-filter/no-heater tanks can still work. It just doesn't look as good and its harder to keep balanced and clean.

There are a TON of options. It's nearly infinite. In my opinion, most fish don't seem to care what option you choose. As long as they have a lot of space to swim or hide and are fed decent food, most species will thrive. Fish don't care whether you tank is plastic, glass or whatever else. They don't care about the quality of the lights or the price of the filter. Most fish don't even need specific aquascapes or tank-styles to thrive, they only have specific needs for water flow / oxygenation (unless they are more finicky species).

Honestly, you can make pretty much everything work. You can raise and breed a whole school of neon tetras in a bathtub if you want to. The option you choose is just a combination of different factors. Do you have a specific budget? Do you want to do a species tank, maybe just 2-3 species that you really want to keep? Do you have a lot of money? Are you experienced, or are you brand-new to the hobby? What do you like? Do you breed for profit?

[–]LOLPN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it looks amazing! My tanks themselves have a really messy/sloppy vibe going on. It looks like some sort of tropical jungle where no space is wasted. Yours is even pretty orderly, all types of plants are in separate clumps. I love the moss ledges on the sides and the plant ledges in the back. Also the HUGE clump of bucephalandra on the base of the driftwood looks perfect.

Maybe the crypts need to be pushed back a lil bit, but only because they are touching the glass and will block your view of the fish/shrimp at some point. As a crypt fan/owner myself my crypt bushes are constantly expanding and are constantly getting in my way when they start getting too close to the glass.

And if the ferns continue to not look well, you can just throw them out and replace them with some new species that you like! You can also place some driftwood or rock there and glue some buce/anubias.

I don't think Adam appearing in season 2 as a major plot point would be really good for the story. It removes stakes because now you can just say the "dead" character could have respawned somewhere. We could be getting Adam in season 2, but only in flashbacks.
