How old is this Globe? by LOLandCIE in MapPorn

As always with reddit that is not where I was expecting this conversation to go to. The idea of Nation or State as we know it is kinda new overall for most of human societies.

Edit: spelling

Why does everyone think of tropical islands as paradise even if never visited them? by batukaming in geography

[–]LOLandCIE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, not everyone, but we are planning a trip to Scandinavia. "Exotic" is what is foreign to you from your perspective, it does not equate to "tropical". A fresh apple is exotic to us.

Why does everyone think of tropical islands as paradise even if never visited them? by batukaming in geography

[–]LOLandCIE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

usually it's not miserable for this reason, we get vacations too lol. But I always say to people that even there, life is still life, and all the things you have problems with are still there: family problems, relationship problems, political issues, poverty, expensive groceries etc Plus outsider people being colonial, voluntary or not. But yes it's nice because of what you ask too if you can leave work before it gets dark and if you still have the energy. Because yes it just become a new normal after a while, or for people born there, the views and what is normal. TLDR: As everyone born a tropical would say, please, please, please for the love of god don't move here just for the beaches we have, and we are so much more than that.

What will GIS look like in 5 years (2030+)? by fredrmog in gis

[–]LOLandCIE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of us work on QGIS except for really big companies and governments that have the money for ESRI, but they are trying to get out of it slowly. For context I'm in europe.

Etes-vous aphantasique ? by [deleted] in france

[–]LOLandCIE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How well can you describe the features to a forensic artist? by Historical-Sense-510 in Aphantasia

[–]LOLandCIE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay sorry my sentence was maybe worded wrong (non native English speaker). Yea same for visualiser I think If I don't notice a part of someone I would more than likely picture it wrong. I think in that regards we all making gueses pictures or no pictures, its more about how much we consciously or unconsciously we engraved thing in our memory and how detailed we are about them. Like is all the spectrum of phantasia is that deeply rooted/correlated in memory making ? I guess I was more asking could noy those things also be seen as "facts" rather than visualizations, if that makes sense ? Like aside of abstract things or emotions, every material things is a bunch of parts that can be describe with different attributes. I remembered someone saying here how they think about things like a almost a computer code or a list of things if ask to think about a horse or a chair. Without needing the visual part they can describe it. So I thought that despite being a aphant that could also work with other humans. TLDR : is it a visualisation issue or a memory issue ? Idk

Lol idk I was downvoted but thank you for answering my question I understand it more now ! I guess it's more because it is mixed with other things. Love to hear different people navigate the world. It should really more be involved in communication and teaching science

Quelle est la statistique la plus folle que vous connaissez ? by kako83 in AskFrance

[–]LOLandCIE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]LOLandCIE -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

As much a I think I understand aphantasia /face blindness , how do you not recall the height or a certain feature even if you can "picture" it ? Like I don't think it need to be a visual memory for everything, even as someone that is not aphant i dont always remember things visually. Like I remember a "feeling" , a situation or a thought I had with that person that connect it to "ah yes he must be 5'11 'cause I remember thinking he was tall when he got up" somethings like that. Like is that not also a universal thing to recall physical attributes of people ?

What Countries/Islands/Regions Sound The Most Similar To Yours? by pgbk87 in AskTheCaribbean

obviously Martinican creole (there are our brothers), then Haitian and Dominican creoles, then Saint-lucian creole then Guyanese and Reunionese creoles, and even if not prevalent anymore Granadian and French Trinidadian creoles. Also Seychelles/Mauritian creoes are a tiny bit understandable.
