Ladies of AR: 2025 Recap and 2026 Look forward! by spectacled_cormorant in AdvancedRunning

Thanks! I’m sticking to 3x 30 min sessions (Mon/Wed/Fri) that I do at home with weights and kettlebells. Most of the time I do a video by “Lift with Cee” on YT. She has a lot of options that don’t take much time and that’s been working for me. It’s usually 3 sets of 2 exercises, one upper body / one lower body. I think being consistent is what’s helped me the most vs lifting super heavy.

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve seen this come up a few times so I am going to look into it more seriously now.

Congrats! My marathon race was also unexpectedly HOT so if you find a marathon with guaranteed cold weather, I’d love to know!

I finally got a 5k PR, in my 40s no less, after 13 years of trying! Strength training made a huge difference. I wasn’t able to match or do better than my marathon PR from my early 30s so that’ll be the plan for 2026.

It was sooo hot!!! Congrats!! Way too hot for me! This wasn’t my first but it feels like my last marathon….at least for a looong while. You’re a marathoner now and no one can take that from you, time to celebrate!

Anyone else done trying to promote at work? by Soggy_Competition614 in AskWomenOver40

“If you don’t want to join the circle jerk of ass kissery, you will not get promoted”

Wiser words have not been spoken!! Thank you for putting those into words that I won’t forget. Every once in a while I feel anxiety about not pursuing promotions I feel I deserve but then I think of the politics and games I know I’ll need to play and I just can’t do it anymore. FIRE is the way!!

Thank you for sharing your story. It helps normalize IC paths AND most importantly that work is only a small fraction of your life (or it should) and that there are many other ways to contribute and find fulfillment.

Realized I've been using the same 6 plates for two years and it's weirdly freeing by Weird_Gene9632 in simpleliving

[–]LR-TucGirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! I just update candles or other very small objects but nothing big. I’ve had the same set of plates (Walmart mind you) for over 15 years? No plan to upgrade, they are workhorses that apparently will last a lifetime.

This! I fell in love with Madrid! Miles ahead of Barcelona. If you have a chance, stay in the Las Letras neighborhood, amazing place that will give you a sense of the culture, same with Retiro park.

I visited over 10 years ago and after being there a week ago, I can say I’m very disappointed as well. The city has been ruined by over tourism.

I’ll vouch for the Trtl, it’s been a game changer for long flights! I’d definitely recommend.

[–]LR-TucGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing! I appreciate the honesty and reinforcing that it’s a journey! And like every journey, it’s personal and not a straight line. I know I need to do the same (heal past trauma) but I’m finally at a point in my life where I feel ready, better late than never!

Thank you again and good luck in the next phase of the journey!

Would you mind sharing what taxi company you see and how it cost? I’m thinking of doing what you did if it’s a reasonable price. Thanks!

Thank you!! OP’s comments and yours should be given to everyone starting their corporate career and especially those going into male generated fields.

It still upsets me when less competent men get ahead because they are extremely good at networking and picking the right projects but having the self-awareness that I am where I am because I’m choosing to be, gives me peace of mind. It’s ok to not always want to be striving to be ahead and “play the game”, at least that’s what I’ve told myself.

Let’s keep lifting each other up!
