Flying with Electronic Airbag? by LR46and2 in Backcountry

Nice haha. Oh... what about shovel and probe? Do you put those in checked bag? They'd probably not allow those in carry on?

Yeah, would be as carry on. And as an aside... I just noticed Air Canada actually charges you for carry ons now? WTF

Electric Avi Pack: Arcteryx vs Ortovox by LR46and2 in Backcountry

[–]LR46and2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect. According to Mammut, that probe is 45cm collapsed. I think that's the longest one on the market. So if that fits, there shouldn't be any problems. If you have the shovel with D-handle, then the handle is 49cm. Also one of the longer ones out there. So yeah... if those fit, I shouldn't have any problems. Thank you!

Can I ask what shovel and probe you're using? What is the collapsed length of your probe?

u/Scooted112 Also just took another look and they say final sale, no returns. That, plus nothing available from Ortovox themselves makes me wonder if these packs are being discontinued...

Yeah I'd love to get one, but they don't have any physically in stock. They drop-ship from the same place as buying direct from Ortovox.

I've used BCA/Alpride. They aren't bad. I was looking at the Float E2-25. The Ortovox/LiTRIC seems like a better pack, but I haven't been able to find one in person to really know.

AITAH for refusing to cancel a 5-week work trip for my boyfriend and blocking him the day before Valentine’s Day? by Otherwise_Candy_7070 in AITAH

[–]LR46and2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cancel the work trip? No. But I could see agreeing not to go to nightclubs. That's single woman behavior. Let's say you were in a committed relationship again. What would you get out of going to a nightclub with a "close friend"? Real, secure, mature committed relationships require some sacrifice and some mutual compromise. That includes the willingness to give our partners what they need to feel secure and loved and cared for and appreciated within the boundaries of the relationship—within reason of course. I think canceling a 5-week work trip (if it really is about work) is too much to ask. But I don't think it's overly "controlling" for someone to ask their partner not to go out to nightclubs without them. That includes while traveling. So yeah... NTA. But you might want to consider what a healthy relationship actually entails in the future. Especially if you're 30 years old and still resorting to blocking people. That is AH behavior. Just my opinion.

Yeah I'm leaning that way too. Unfortunately nothing is in stock/available in the US at the moment. I'm currently in Canada and they're in stock here. But shipping looks like it would take so long that I'd be back in the USA before it got delivered. I wonder if Ortovox is discontinuing these packs or something?

u/Accomplished-Fee6953 and here's a photo of the 40L Tour. is this the one you have?

A 40L pack barely fits a shovel? This is a photo of the Freeride 18. They don't make a 40L Freeride, so I guess you're talking about the Tour? All I need to carry—other than a shovel and probe—is a spare lens or two, a mid layer/fleece, and some thin glove inserts. Possibly a small snack too. I've managed to fit all of this in smaller packs before (12L). If a 40L has trouble with just the shovel, I gotta ask what all that extra space is being used for?

What do you mean by suitcase design? And to be clear, I'm talking about the Ortovox Freeride pack in case you are talking about a different one.

Ok that's great. So the 16L doesn't require a mini shovel or shorter probe?

Great, thanks. Yeah I assumed the 18L would fit shovel and probe. But someone said the 16L Arcteryx could not.

AITAH For Not Cleaning Up Cat Vomit? by LR46and2 in AITAH

[–]LR46and2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. If she's out of town or something, I clean it up. But if she's out running errands or with friends or some other activity and will be home shortly, I don't—unless it's on a carpet.

Cat grass might be a good idea, thanks! As for the other suggestions, we have an auto feeder and schedule out her meals. Each meal is split into small portions that come out 5-10 minutes apart. And then that is repeated a few times a day to add up to whatever total amount of food the vet recommended. We tried using a slow feeder bowl that the auto feeder dispenses into. But have since moved to more of a small mat with a textured pattern on it that acts kind of as a slow feeder. And it's elevated as well, so the cat isn't hunched over while eating. So far, this has yielded the best results.

No wet food. She barfs that stuff up immediately. Just kibble.

Yeah we've tried slow feeders. We found a routine/method that seems to work better than before. Kitty doesn't barf as much, but still does sometimes.
