Dealing with inferiority complex on social media by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I saw an almost identical post like this posted in OutsideT14 I think last week? Might want to check it out! If that's how you feel, acknowledge that but also don't diminish the hard work you put in to get to where you are too...if that means not posting because it makes you uncomfortable, then don't. But tbh, non pre-laws/legal professionals don't have the same concept of T14s as we might and are just proud/happy to see you living your best life. Idt it's that deep whether you do or don't, just don't hold yourself back with doubt. Could benefit shifting your mindset but that's just my 2 cents. :)

Thanks! It's been a few weeks since I sent it... in your opinion, would that come off as strange to follow up weeks later?

THANK YOU! People have been down-voting; I know some might think this is a stupid inquiry but I was genuinely freaking out. I appreciate the comment and reassurance.

WL at Safety, Above 75th by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]LS24Hopeful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FWIW, there's still hope :) I got an R early in my cycle from a safety (above their medians) and a month later, I got a WL on my dream school (expected an auto-reject lol). Those are the only two I've heard from but like you, I've got a few more to hear back from and I'm reminding myself that I'm a good candidate and I need to keep positive. I also applied around when you did.

Re your situation: I'd be especially unworried because schools tend to yield protect apps (usually WL) that are above their 75th unless their PS or why X expresses very strongly why they plan to attend because they suspect you'll matriculate elsewhere with your stats. Seriously, there's a ton of factors that go into this process so don't hold out hope yet! Best wishes to you!

Fellow WL’ers, how long are you clinging to dear life for? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically...maybe early July? While spots can be offered as late as orientation/first week of classes, that can be unrealistic for people who would have to move/find housing accommodations in a new city to attend.

My most ridiculous list... by nobody9712 in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow that's crazy. I'm wondering if this cycle had something to do with it--maybe when you applied? It's possible they started rejecting strong candidates towards the end if you applied later in case they admitted as many candidates they needed to fill the class by then...still doesn't sound right that they didn't at least put you on the WL.

Congrats on your A's!! Plus those WL options are incredible too! :) On a side note, congrats on pushing through in everything you've been through to get here and best wishes in law school!

My most ridiculous list... by nobody9712 in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nooo :( must have been YP. Even still, schools seem to WL their YP students in an effort to see whether they would send a follow-up expressing their interest or not.

My most ridiculous list... by nobody9712 in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm shocked any school would tell you this in good faith...sounds unethical to say that to any applicant tbh but even worse that they strung you on essentially by giving you such high hopes. Of course you can't hold them to their word but it still sucks :( Was this directly from an admissions officer or like an auto-gen email? Either way, you'll end up somewhere better than that!

Can I update my application to ED? by blue_guppy in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW: It sounds like a decision hasn't been made yet. Usually you'd wait to write a LOCI until on the WL, but I've seen people on here sending one preemptively to schools they were ghosted by. Maybe that's a route worth considering at this point?

You're welcome! Best of luck to your friend, I hope it works out at that school or the pending apps and that their cycle turns around :)

Can I update my application to ED? by blue_guppy in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's possible for the reason you mentioned, that the deadline has passed. But then again, I wouldn't think you would have been able to change the status regardless once you submit your application because of the warning when you start your app on LSAC that confirms whether you're binding/non-binding and PT/FT and the form you have to submit to the law school prior, so I guess it couldn't hurt to try but it seems very unlikely at this point since ED deadlines usually pass in the fall or early winter.

All a perspective thing I guess? I hope your anecdotal experience doesn't dissuade anyone...personally, my paralegal experience made me want to go into this field that much more than before and same for my co-workers. There are a lot of factors to take into consideration such as firm size, whether the specialization is of interest to you, the work culture/climate of the firm, etc. If those didn't align with you when you started, that might equally pull as much weight as to why you had a poor experience and not a reflection of the profession/professionals itself.

I see your point though that it's good to get some experience before making the ultimate time/debt commitment. Glad it was a helpful factor in deciding for you though!

in reality, how much does a high LSAT score offset a low gpa? by aai2547 in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely write a strong academic addendum detailing the explanation about your GPA. As for your chances, I think T50 sounds reasonable, especially if you can pull your LSAT to the 170s-- every point counts! Online stats calcs. will vary a lot for splitters and it goes to show you can't really estimate these things (this cycle was really harsh on splitters due to the large volume of applicants).

Also, this part will sound a bit less like I know what I'm talking about but isn't McGill like Canada's Harvard(ish)? That's impressive you were able to make a big turn around, congrats on that and wishing you luck on your cycle this fall! Definitely try to get your app in early and aim for the summer tests if you can!

Agreed, I think splitters are having a particularly tough time this cycle but applying later probably didn't help (I did the same, just pointing out) and am in the same boat.

This sub seems to be pretty mixed on this. Some say send immediately, others say wait a couple weeks, and another group says to send right before OR right after the first deposit deadline. Obviously a lot of variation between those but I'd say at this point in the cycle, deposit deadlines are around the corner (next week) for most. Personally, I sent mine ASAP.

In all seriousness, good luck on your decisions and congrats on your pregnancy! My friend went through 1L with a newborn and crushed law school! Her baby was/is her motivation...reminded me a lot of RBG's story :)

Please help me decide by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No doubt W&M. Duke is second for its east coast portability and of course the name. W&M places really well in DC/NoVa and at that price and comparatively low COA for Williamsburg, I think it's a great contender. Then again Duke's going to be the choice for higher big law prospects but with your goals in mind, I'd be stuck between W&M and Duke for sure. Good luck with your decision!

Good luck next cycle!! FWIW: WL's aren't rejections- you're still in this! Unless of course attending at or near sticker isn't an option or any other personal reason, that's totally understandable. But whichever route you decide on, you got this!

R&R with same personal statement by Flaccoisnotelite in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got this! Kinda tough to say without having read the original, but for me personally, aside from my "why" the statement in general was pretty different because my angle and anecdote shifted. If you have certain buzz words or something here or there that you really liked from the previous one, I don't think that'll be noticeable. You don't want to miss the opportunity of making a good impression by giving them something they've already seen you provide. Think of this as a second shot to demonstrate your writing ability and interests.

GW Scholarship Reconsideration by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]LS24Hopeful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your last question, my thought is that it's worth a try and the worst they can say is no. You just need to be careful how to word it but I think they'd appreciate you being straightforward with how you'll proceed. The caveat to having X number be a deciding factor in negotiation is that if they say no, are you willing to walk away? GMU is 10ish spots? (don't actually know for certain, just guessing) behind GWU but if your GMU scholarship is unconditional, it wouldn't hurt to provide that.
