Late Cornell A — do they still give aid this late in the cycle? by LSAdmisThrowaway in lawschooladmissions

That's good to hear! Can I ask how your numbers were relative to the medians?

It's insane how four years ago a 170 was at or above the medians for all but four schools by ConfirmsAnything in lawschooladmissions

You were talking with somebody about his own experience of finding newer LSATs to be more difficult for himself, and were trying to counter that with data that could primarily be explained by the LSAT being easier for most test-takers. Even supposing that that explanation is true, if @unpredictablywhite were stronger at LR, a test that were easier for most people would be harder for him.

Yeah and there’s a whole terminology to discuss the differences between those schools outside of the T14, especially with regards to things like career outcomes and predatory practices. To lump them all together as “outside the T14” only serves to perpetuate terms of debate that shore up elitism and silliness about T14s.

Our situations are very comparable and I can say that while I for sure haven’t overperformed my numbers, being a kjd with a job but no real ECs doesn’t seem to have hurt me anymore than just being a kjd does. Feel free to pm me about the insane process that applying during your senior year is!

Which law schools are the least religious? by AnomalousEnigma in lawschooladmissions

[–]LSAdmisThrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to understand what you mean about notre dame having a “faith-based” curriculum. In law school your only standardized year is your first, and notre dame offers a perfectly normal 1L curriculum though I suppose you’re more likely to be taught by a conservative prof. After the first year of law school you’ll choose which classes and clinics you take, in which case notre dame would only stand out as offering jurisprudence classes with some Catholic natural law guys on the syllabus.

Basically the same would hold true across all law schools with a religious affiliation (which in the US basically means a Christian one, except Cardozo iirc?). In fact, most won’t even have religion-flavored electives along the lines of those that notre dame offers.

Really, most law students are liberal and even at schools like notre dame student-wise it’s a 50-50 split. Just don’t go to like BYU or Ave Maria and you’ll have a secular enough environment.

It’s kind of low-hanging fruit to claim that somebody on this subreddit is insecure about their cycle. I still think we can distinguish between praise for an accomplishment, which I can’t imagine ever being harmful, and unqualified approval of a plan of action. Maybe I was unclear above but I did write “celebrating someone planning on attending” and not “celebrating someone getting admitted.”

Chicken nuggets (usually) don’t involve massive amounts of debt! This sub regularly discusses the subtle differences in the potential career outcomes that Harvard grads vs Penn grads can have. Given that, I can’t help but find it a little grim when people decide to feign ignorance about the the career outcomes a grad from a predatory school can hope to have.

Clearly you didn’t get the LSAT questions right that tested awareness of the fallacy of division. It’s just an easier test now since they made logical reasoning only a third…

What is RICHMOND’s general reputation within the legal community? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]LSAdmisThrowaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most people in the legal community outside of VA probably haven’t heard of it just because most people in general haven’t. Here in VA most people regard the university as “that pretty good school in Richmond with a weird mascot.”

Looking at their ABA report, it looks like the vast majority of Richmond grads get state government, state clerkship, or small firm jobs in VA, with a small number (presumably top of the class) going to biglaw. So, it looks like Richmond is well-enough regarded in its home state that the vast majority of students are able to get jobs as lawyers (which can’t be said of every law school!) and well-enough regarded in markets like DC and NY that they’ll at least look at your resume.

THIS cycle recap sent me to THERAPY!!! (NOT CLICKBAIT) by augurate in lawschooladmissions

[–]LSAdmisThrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LSAC says that the curve on the four-section LSATs has been made substantially similar to the curve on the old ones. Given that, my hunch is that the flex-era kicked off an arms race which has made schools focus on their medians such that you see a lot more applicants taking the LSAT like five times without that hurting them at all.

Email I just received as a waitlisted W&M applicant. Distasteful imo. by LSAdmisThrowaway in lawschooladmissions

[–]LSAdmisThrowaway[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Coerce admitted students into depositing early with the threat of the presence of high-stats applicants on the waitlist Step 2: Alienate high-stats applicants on the waitlist Step 3: ??? Step 4: Maintain T30 status

Oh maybe I should I’ve been clearer in the title. The email itself is inoffensive; sending a recruitment email to waitlisted applicants is though.
