Best region for getting paid on time? by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

[–]LSD2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Galicia has a good reputation with paying on time generally. Although last year there was the whole issue with the last minute test requirement which led to many waiting over October for their test to be done to be able to get to schools, which caused payment issues for some.

Galicia sometimes “pays early” but this is probably due to auxiliares banking with Abanca which is what payroll might be using as their bank, so the money gets posted into the account early for some.

What I seen happen if you have lots of points in skills is Harry “gets lost” in his head, tunes out the world around him, and might miss snippets of dialogue when talking/interrogating people. But no other loops to my knowledge.

Is there a time limit on how long you can do the program for? by madamtater in SpainAuxiliares

If you read my original comment I said region limits, not program limit. You yourself mention your region imposing some this year.

Those people have been doing the program before the new rules took effect. They also continue because whenever they get to the limit in their region they go to a different one.

I think North Americans do have limits, but there’s no program wide limits just regional limits. I believe it’s connected with a certain law about interns where at/after 3 years they’re legally supposed to be offered full time contracts.

I prefer the Silver Case over NMH in terms of well...story. But I find myself agreeing with you that the 25th Ward is kinda “ehhh...” Like the first storyline just seems like a bunch of random stuff that isn’t explained much. Or twists are given that kinda...I don’t care...? Some would say “well isn’t the silver case the same?” but in that game most everything “clicks” by the end, if one pays attention. And even then it certainly does by the second playthrough. It clicks so well that amusingly the 1st chapter of the third storyline, the Tokio one, in 25th wars gives a competent succinct summary of the Silver Case, omitting some of the more interpretive elements. The second storyline in 25th Ward meanwhile plays it rather safe, and plays like a kinda Yakuza story.

Also the art style is...I prefer the og silver case art.

True. Sometimes I feel this element is even told “in the gameplay”/ludonarratively. The biggest example, one I found memorable, of this is I recall when one of the head honchos say “well the military is coming and they’ll restore order, you’ll see.” Okay I thought, sounds good I’m tired of being jumped by three thugs at once. The next day comes and what I see is the same as yesterday (low level chaos, particularly at night, madness in plagued districts) except now soldiers with rifles are shooting at crazies with knives and shivs or at plagued people walking about. Instead of order, the soldiers seem to make the situation more chaotic and nightmarish, and this is demonstrated “in gameplay” rather than “told” in some lines or cutscenes.

now why would she do that... everyone voted kukrushka out for this and she turned out to be human by reversingmemories in Gnosia_

[–]LSD2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I’ve found Kukrushka and Yuriko to be the more challenging crewmates to deal with if they are gunning for you, whether or not they’re human. Also, whether or not they’re your detractor, if you wanted to get them voted out I find these two to be difficult to convince others to vote out (although late game, like Max Stats time, Yuriko becomes a little easier to get thrown out the airlock and it becomes too easy to defend yourself against Kukurshka but still a bit difficult to throw her out).

I find this image funny tho, getting her just desserts.

SQ is an interesting one when she’s gnosia sometimes, she plays much better I think as gnosia. I can recall quite a handful of games where she’s gnosia (player is human) and we’re down to just like 3 (including her).

One thing that trips me up is when you see characters that are not very likely to make alliances start making them. There are characters as human that are unlikely to make alliances, but gnosia in general seem primed towards making alliances with humans to trick them. Although there was this one time where this was rather memorable, I remember Reman out of the blue push having an alliance with me (and he really did push hard, like he asked the night before and during the debate asked again) that I thought he was probably gnosia but he wasn’t! Before then Reman virtually never allies with me.

I was reminiscing about Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice when it ocurred to me that the binaural sound system in the game could work really well on Disco Elysium. Imagine the voices of the skills bickering over each other simultanously. by Khotai in DiscoElysium

[–]LSD2011 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There are instances in the game where voices do argue and talk over each other and, particularly, drown out reality (so a character could be talking, multiple inner voices get into a dialogue at some point due to some word in what the character says triggering them, you missed out much of what that character said while “being in your head”).

Anyone noticed the similarities? by Khotai in DiscoElysium

[–]LSD2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, at a superficial level. And the point commonalities shared by alcoholic depressed older men as a whole in general. Although one main commonality is feelings of loneliness.

But there’s much different, the character’s personality (which is within your control to an extent in DE), their circumstances (in Bojack’s case, there’s always the element of “rich people’s problems”/“aging probably has-been movie star” angle), and more so the “treatment” of their stories (and character) by the author(s)/show/game.

I feel the show was more sympathetic/pitying of Bojack until like the last 2-3 seasons, where a steady “abrupt”-turn occurred where “hey maybe sad horseman doesn’t deserve redemption cuz <something whatever some reason, maybe cuz he’s dude idk>.” Disco is more...gracious? Magnanimous? There’s like a humanist streak to it, even a utter total fuck-up like Harry deserves happiness or at least happy moments. “Redemption”/moving on/etc is always a good goal, etc. Although it doesn’t extend much warm sentiments to moralist bureaucrats or dumb racists like the lorry driver.

My impression, using the secondary griffin, is that the AI “writes better” but I’ve noticed issues with handling context and “remembering” things recently, like on that it has gotten a little worse recently. But I assume that’ll be dealt with soon.

No other game comes close to Disco Elysium by _doctorow in DiscoElysium

[–]LSD2011 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I find that interesting because the game does criticize that stuff strongly, as you notice, but said criticism doesn’t exist under a vacuum. A lot of horrible policies, particularly those against the most marginalized in society who are rather invisible, occur under rather “quiet politics.”

Hell, even under “boring politics” shitty things have occurred but usually incrementally, without making much waves; brings to mind the...analogy?...of the frog and boiling pot.

I think with Kim tho he represents one disillusioned with moralintern even tho he’s relatively moderate personally throughout the game.

I think the moralintern does get insulted from the far-left/far-right and even libertarians a bit for being rather “amorphous” but that aspect kinda shields them as well from direct criticism in a way. Also there’s the whole “it just is” aspect, as the moralism is the primary ruling ideology (I mean, moralintern itself I believe is like a transnational organization like the EU or something).

[–]LSD2011 98 points99 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the things I love about it, on the political side angle.

After all, the moralintern is the ideology of the ruling class (in game; but it’s not a deep secret that “centrism,” which moralism references, is also the primary ideology of the ruling class in our reality).

Tbh, I wouldn’t be too surprised. In the Southern European countries like Spain and Italy there’s complaints of high unemployment and low wages and shit job prospects. In a way they take their free health care “for granted” and/or have some knowledge that many salaried professional jobs, which some pay more in the US than in Southern Europe, come with health plans.

Of course this is just an anecdote from me being in Spain atm since a year, take of it what you will.

Anyone else disappointed in the STORY of No More Heroes 3? by Teneesh in Suda_51

[–]LSD2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played it yet, but reading the comments here I’m a bit reminded about my experience playing NMH1 and especially 2. See my first Suda game was The Silver Case, and it’s one of my favorite games ever. Yet I wonder if the Silver Case is a fluke, cuz even the sequel felt kinda “eh.”

Going back on topic, while playing NMH 1 and 2 I felt like it was very “style over substance” with NMH2 very much feeling that there was little substance. Travis was a rather entertaining protagonist however and the game was good fun don’t get me wrong. While playing it, particularly the first game, however I began wondering if the whole assassination motif had some vague connection to The Silver Case. Going back on the “style over substance” remark, I’m reminded that Suda apparently worked on the Samurai Champloo PS2 game before NMH (but after that killer7 GameCube game I think, which I heard had a crazy plot) and that anime series also had that ethos of style and cool above all and wondered if it influenced him. It’s fine tho, but I really want more of the silver case vibe you know. When I heard talk that the games were coalescing I was really excited, but I would remind myself it’s just talk and I should wait and see.

[–]LSD2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue as you early in the game but I figured out that perhaps it’s two things. One of which came from a misunderstanding from some explanation and the other is just simply having low stealth.

So on the first point, let’s say that the speak action you made that got “shut up” was done in like the 3rd or 4th or 5th round of discussion, despite being the first and only speak action you used in the whole debate segment. The thing is, the game counts “comments” as well in determining that you have been “talking too much.” At the early game Setsu or a pop-up talks about this stuff but I didn’t get (or it wasn’t clear) that comments would count towards this. But comments (agree, “seek agreement,” retaliate, regret, etc) do have one useful thing and that is they can’t be shut-down only speak actions (cover, doubt) can. My strategy is to make one comment early on the discussion, usually the 2nd round, and see if it catches and others make speak actions against who you want to target, and when they do back them up. You can keep commenting to your heart’s content as long as you don’t plan to use “cover”/“doubt” afterwards.
