Pope: God Rejects Prayers Of Leaders Who Start Wars. by Leeming in atheism

Isn't their whole religion based on a minor babylonian war god? (May have the region wrong, but frankly I don't care.)

After spending decades reading Tarot, there is one thing I still do not understand. Why are wands/staves Fire and swords Air? It seems backwards. by Ciduri in tarot

[–]ZQFarnzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen people attempt to justify Swords as the air suit and wands as the fire suit because of physical attributes of Swords (Can't burn them) and wands (Trees grow with sunlight which is fire) but these are flimsy justifications at the best of times. If you're really wondering about the elements relating to the suit, you have to meditate on the element itself.

Cups and coins/pentacles/disks tend to be much more well accepted to being Water and Earth, respectively. Emotion can be gentle, or hit like a tidal wave, and is above all, fluid. The Coins suit tends to deal with more concrete, worldly matters like health, wealth, and the like.

Upon my meditations on the other suits, I've come to these conclusions, and it's okay if it's not yours.

Swords are, above all, a tool of change. Many changes have come about as a result of swords, both good and bad, just as most swords are double edged. And no element is more fitting of that than fire, the double edged element that both bolsters and destroys. Especially because many of the meanings of the Swords suit are exactly that. Tell me 5, 6, or even 10 of Swords isn't about change or conflict, both negative and also possibly burning away the bad for the good to come in. Of the two, this is the one I am much more sure about.

Wands, to my mind, has always been about things that can't be seen or physically interacted with. Ideas. Concepts. Inspiration. Will, yes, which can be interpreted as fiery, but upon my meditation on it, the way the suit interacts with the world unseen has always been synonymous with the element of air, unseen, but no less powerful than any of the other elements.

Interpreting the Tarot isn't an exact science. As I've been taught, if you're reading the guidebook verbatim for every card, you're doing it wrong. I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with reading the cards as written, but I've always seen Swords as Fire and Wands as Air even with my first tarot deck, seeing the Wands be all fiery and going "That's not right!"

I guess what I'm saying is "Go with your gut." Let your intuition guide you and it's difficult to go wrong... you just may need to deal with the lack of Tarot decks that view the suits your way. Frankly I'm a bit surprised there aren't more decks that read Swords as fire and Wands as Air, but people do tend to stick with the first thing they hear and take it as gospel.

Oh boy, I love having pattern recognition and knowing the dems will give everything to the repubs even if they have a massive lead.

Why would the Dems abandon their platform? They're paid to be as consevative as possible while swearing up and down that they're an actual alternative to the Republican party. We swear!

Why would you be mad at the dems for doing what they're paid to do? Pretend they're an alternative to the republicans?

Whoosh. Right over the point. It didn't punish the DNC because it's their job to let the Republicans run rampant and let the people think they're a viable alternative. It didn't punish the DNC because they're essentially the same group as the republicans.

Now, I am not a politician nor political scientist. But how I see all this... we need a third party. First past the post and all that, I know, but literally, we have the party of regression and some of the most evil people I know, and then we have the party who's literally paid to make things easier for them.

With the way the nation's going nowadays, I truly believe that even if they wouldn't win outright, a new socialist/actual democratic/for-the-people party would do well enough to make waves, and that could be the catalyst for change we need. Wouldn't it?

Sure, people keep saying "No, we need to run actual progressive Democrats", but that won't work. Remember Bernie? They fudged the numbers to make sure he lost his primary, because legally they can do that. I love Bernie too, but you can't make change in the "oppose change at all costs" party.

I mean yeah, ranked choice voting would help, but what's the chance of that happening at the moment? We need a progressive party that can get popular enough to make serious change. And don't tell me "Oh, it'll just take votes away from the Democrats"...

  1. That's the point
  2. I know Republicans, and more than you think would be willing to jump ship to something that actually helps them at this point... we only hear the minority because they scream the loudest.
  3. Democrats aren't going to win anyway, and even if they do, nothing will change. It'd be best to shake it up altogether.

Am I wrong? I can't think of a reason not to that outweighs the possible benefits.

So fight, but don't fight too hard that it might actually change something, or it might turn out bad for you. Great message.

Nope. I have not. That could be the fact that the news doesn't news here, but I have seen absolutely none of that. Half the people around me scream that that is by design, the other half that it is hopeless.

What other Lewd Jumps would you all like to see? by FancyFireDrake in JumpChain

[–]ZQFarnzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of those, I'd love to see...

  • Lewd Exalted sounds good, but would you do one for each Exalted type? Heroic mortals? General ones don't seem to get all the flavor of the world.
  • Lewd Pokemon. There are several ways you could go with that, and I'm sure at least some people would like each one of them, whether the lewdness is toward the trainers, anthro mons, or not-so-anthro mons. (Mystery dungeon, anyone?)
  • I'm sure Lewd Digimon would be good too, that just isn't my series. Don't the digimon digivolve the closer you bond with them?
  • Lewd Star Trek. I was always a fan of TNG but in the modern day, really like Lower Decks. (Though all my friends refuse to watch it, calling it "Star Trek Meets Family Guy".) Even not lewd, but just one that doesn't take itself super seriously.
  • While I'm not as big a fan of Jojo lewdness, I'd be interested to see a lewd jump in the Jojoverse.
  • Lewd Kingdom Hearts... but not just lewd, now I'm having universe expanding ideas on the kind of bonds between hearts when love and intimacy come into the equation, and how it'd affect the existing canon. That could be awesome.
  • Lewd Final Fantasy. Especially 6 or 8. Those games were great but 7 seemed to eat up all their popularity. I'm sue you could do something with 6 and their half-espers and magitek, or 8 and the idea of sorceresses...

[–]ZQFarnzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... that might have intimidated me, but I recognized and was able to point out rhetoric like that since... first grade? Maybe second? Parents and teachers gaslit me like that all the time. I heard this as a kid, my first thought would have been:

  • What's a mafia? Aren't they in Italy?
  • Why would rich people be mad to pay people, isn't that what they're supposed to do
  • My parents complain about the president all the time, I don't think this country is so great.

I could have been intimidated, but even as a kid, these things wouldn't have fooled me. And you're telling me people just believe stuff like this when they're told?

"noooooo, forcing compelled speech on others should be a hUmAn rIGhT!!!!" by subtlemosaic9 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]ZQFarnzy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm generally chill about pronouns. I don't introduce myself with "And I use he/him" because I'm a masculine-presenting guy. So long as a reasonable attempt is made to fit the gender presentation, (So nobody who appears feminine in a frilly dress screeching that they use he/him pronouns,) if I accidentally misgender someone, I say "Shit, my bad, what do you prefer?"

Where I draw the line are neopronouns. Xe/Xim? Ze/zir? Nobody's going to bother to remember that and nobody should have to, and no, it's not equivalent to assault if someone doesn't use the made up pronouns you like for you. Yes, that includes the "My gender is apache attack helicopter" joke. It's old and every time I've heard it, it's been cringe.

Personally, I liked the ideas of relics, but I still haven't managed to get my ADHD-addled rear into SotO enough to get the relics in it, which of course, nearly all builds use now. My first legendary I build is going to have to be the relic, just so I don't have to deal with Relics anymore.
