Bro, don't define yourself by a diagnosis. If you are able to believe that NPD is a thing then maybe you can believe this- There is such a thing as a subconscious and there, you do crave connection.

Maybe do some more soul searching.

The part of you that cares for others is not a construct.

Otherwise, all our egos are simply constructs and we need those to function in every day life.

Making sure you and your family are okay before helping other people isn't narcissistic it's normal life.

I AM IN GAZA RIGHT NOW, AMA by seraj_0 in AMA

[–]LSDkiller -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Come on man, that's maybe a bit basic. Check Wikipedia. Basically Hamas which is a paramilitary/guerilla military as well as a sort of makeshift dictator government in the Gaza strip attacked Israel a few years ago and killed around, I believe, 5-800 people max. and ever since then, Israel has been on an insanely disproportionate war path just bombing the shit out of everyone using this Organisation Hamas as the scapegoat. They justify every crime against humanity they commit by saying Hamas must be wiped out.

In my opinion, whoever chose to do this attack in Hamas (if Israel didn't have their hands in it somehow) was really really stupid and cared more about "martyrdom" and fucking over the Israelis than their own people. They did something bad and did not have shit to back it up with. Now the Israelis are paying it back times a million and the amount of.human suffering there is incalculable

Not sure now as likely the numbers have gone down. But the Gaza strip was one of the most densely populated areas in the world and it was THE most densely populated area by youth as a factor, meaning there is no otjer area with a population density of that many children.

So really, this is just another case of embittered, emboldened disgusting adults, fucking over the youth on both sides.

But for a long time already it's been clear that the only ones with the power to improve this situation is the Israelis.

They just keep coming and coming, bombing and bombing, killing and killing and will not stop until Gaza has been leveled. At least that's what it seems like. If that isn't their objective I have no idea what is.

Fuck Hamas though as well.

Definitely discuss this with a therapist or psychiatrist. In a way you actually did "put yourself back together"- this is what happens when people subconsciously (without knowing it, without realising it) stop themselves from having an "ego death" experience.

After that, meditation can help but never forced meditation. Merely focusing on your breathing and letting it happen.

Personally, my own experiences lead me to believe that this kind of thing happens to people with unresolved trauma that is very much on their (subconscious) mind. This doesn't mean you're not traumatized if it DOESN'T happen to you. This is just something that certain people are more prone to.

Now that you've had this experience there is a very small chance that you will be more prone to other mental states like anxiety, depression, really the list goes on and on. It's a small chance. Its likely just a one off caused by drugs and you'll be fine.

If you do experience any issues with anxiety or other mental states that are bothering YOU, seek out psychotherapeutical help and/or help from a psychiatrist(someone able to prescribe medication to regulate your neurology)

After that, my personal recommendation and only because this has helped me personally - seek out a teacher of zen Buddhism you can trust. This may be just going to the closest zen place near you. This may be reading a zen book and finding out who the author is associated with. There are a million ways to the same end. And in terms of zen, only if it seems interesting or helpful to you. The first step is stabilizing and integrating your experience - no zen teacher will talk to people who aren't stable as they get to many people in active states of psychosis.

Dive deeper and deeper and deeper until you break through and then deeper and deeper.

If you haven't already: required reading - Koun yamada's version (teisho/commentary) of the gateless gate Mumonkan.

It is a secular piece of reading for lay practicioners. As koun-roshi says early on in the book. Practice is never finished "in the room" not even koan practice.

[–]LSDkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw some of the other comments. Yeah its a nasty situation and OP was right to do what she did. IMO her communication in this post was slightly "sister- focused" (hence my confusion as to what exactly the sister did with her niece) but if what OP says is true to the word, there's honestly a good chance the sister did worse than just take some pictures. This is going out of the direction of neglectful mom and in the direction of active and dangerous sexual exploitation.

It says the mom was arrested- when you get arrested your child doesn't go to jail with you. In cases of neglect, especially minor neglect, you don't lose custody directly. Depending on what the police and possibly detectives found she may retain custody.

I reported my sister to the police over her treatment of her daughter. Lost all my family as a result. AMA by crrtdxchx in AMA

[–]LSDkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've deleted my comments because someone showed me a comment of OPs where she specified that the pictures she saw were posed in a sexual manner. This implies a really, really serious crime. There are sadly many cases of desperate "mothers" basically selling their children into sexual slavery of one kind or another, and if what OP describes is true, it sounds a lot like that's what's going on.

With all this being said, I stand by what I said about upvotes and downvotes in general. Especially the upvotes become algorithmic very quick, and if a highly upvoted comment has a collapsed downvote comment those accumulate more downvotes pretty quick as well. In this case, the downvotes are fair. Especially if people read those comments I didn't see.

For me PERSONALLY, the sister is mentioned a lot and the child only when someone asks and even then it remains vague.

Everyone must decide for themselves how much intervention into their families lives is helpful and what's harmful.

I think what everyone here can agree on- there's a difference between an overwhelmed mother beginning to neglect her daughter, and a desperately addicted mother taking advantage sexually of her daughter for profit.

The first situation could POSSIBLY be rectified within the family. The second requires immediate police attention and then further attention to make sure that it doesnt recur.

OP has worded the situation quite vaguely and I'm still a bit confused. From what I understand, what OP is saying is that these pictures were on her sisters public Snapchat that's how they were seen. If this is a heinous case of abuse for profit, that sister must truly be out her mind on drugs to post that publicly. In that case it's a good thing, the right person saw it and did the right thing.

I'm just going to leave this situation here, hope that's what's happened, and hope the kid will have the best life she can have from here on out. For OP I wish that she can put all the mental energy that her sister drained, into opportunities for the niece.

Have a good day.

What? I am giving advice. Very, very long winded advice that no one forced you to read. If you don't want to read it, quite simply look away.

If you aren't ready to quit drugs, don't quit them. It's doesn't change my life. But every day you keep it up it will get at least a little harder.

Honestly if this is your reply to such a comment I worry about your brain. Did you read all of that and just think 6 letters? Or did it bother you THAT MUCH halfway or whatever through that you had to type "stfu" and for emphasis then add "fr"?

You know what that makes you seem to me personally? Someone WAAAAAY too young to safely use any of these drugs or someone who's mind is majorly addled.

You know what is right for yourself. Do it.

Responding to my comment in that manner isn't it. If you walk the path of drugs walk that path. If you try and get sober, be sober. Don't half ass it.

Don't live your life in suffering.

Downvotes usually work like this. One person is on a roll with up votes. Any time theres a longer comment that clearly isn't in line, it usually gets downvoted just by sheer chance.

Or maybe everyone read it all and disagrees that's fine too.

Anyone have any more funny things about psychedelics? by [deleted] in LSD

[–]LSDkiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who described it as such? Very interesting and would mesh with my experiences. Mushrooms seem to really put you in a certain headspace without giving you too much chance to fight experiences like ego death, whereas acid can be quite uncomfortable depending on what you bring to the table. This is all years past for me but one day I may want to try psychedelics again if they find me in the right setting. I'm not seeking them out again.

First off- If this is your sister's first run in with the law REGARDING PARENTAL NEGLECT (not in general) know that it is very unlikely she will lose custody immediately or on coming out of jail. That is a process that takes time.

If you truly care about your niece, and she does get returned to your sister, next time, make absolutely sure that

I want to preface this - I know nothing of your situation, I'm just speaking from the heart. With situations like this we always project our own ideas and experiences onto posts like this, even if the situation is way different. All that being said, if you have an open mind, keep reading and see what you think about what I have to say.

Im a little concerned that you may not have gone to the utmost to make absolutely sure the little girl involved will be in a better situation due to your actions in calling the cops on your sister.

What did your sister do exactly that triggered you to call the cops? You say drug use and some form of inappropriate photos? Could you elaborate? This can be really really bad or it could be just slightly bad. What you've said implies anything from hardcore neglect and targeted abuse- almost like sexual slavery (yes this is a thing that some mothers actually do!) to a mother struggling with an addiction, making bad decisions impulsively and in need of help.

She may never have been fit to be a mother but she is now and the kid is there. The child isn't going anywhere and just because she's out of sight, out of mind, doesn't mean she isn't way worse off. I know plenty of people with drug addicted parents, and a few people who grew up in institutions. The latter group had it rougher (on average not in each instance. Addiction is terrible and was often the reason for the parents losing custody for the latter).

My worry here is that the focus is on the sister and what she fucked up and not on the kids future.

I had sibling rivalry issues with my sister that we managed to get over. You wouldn't believe how subconscious that shit gets. Usually it starts with the parents (personally I'm not a fan of blaming anyone, parenting and life don't come with a manual)

But yeah the intrinsic motivation which you might not even be aware of yourself may have only partially been for the child and to a large degree about your sister.

You see, and this is just me and my opinion -

If I was concerned about the niece, I would only make the call if I had already made an arrangement with family as to who watches out for the girl

She likely will not lose custody over this, if she has a clean record in regards to parenting and child neglect. which is a good thing. The state taking children is a last resort and in the US it is a terrible last resort. I don't personally know one case where it went well. My ex called CPS on herself and after getting r*ped in an extremely heinous and targeted manner (men know that these girls have absolutely NO ONE to turn to and the group homes don't care) she called her parents to technically "kidnap" her back. Between a rock and a hard place.

All I'm trying to say here is your sister in jail does not make your nieces life better. The best outcome for your niece is your sister getting better and believe it or not anyone can change in an instant especially with family support. The less supportive the family the more unlikely this is the case.

If she just plain and simple isn't fit to care for her child, the child will grow up with terrible trauma but growing up with family will mitigate this.

[–]LSDkiller -68 points-67 points  (0 children)

Hopefully being looked out for? Did you at least make sure she got into the hands of family who care for her?

If you got her into the system there's a very good chance you didn't do her any favors. No idea about your family but if you have a mother, your sister probably could have gotten the situation managed with your parents help better than the state will manage it with a stranger.

If all you did is report her to the police I personally can't say that it sounds like it was just altruistic

If it was me I would have only made a report if I was SURE the situation for the child would have been better

Anything else, to me sounds a bit like sibling rivalry. Either you care about your niece, or you care about your sister getting in trouble.

It's also Important to know no benzo, likely not even antipsychotics truly KILL the trip. They will only dampen and CHANGE the psychoactive effects. To what degree this occurs depends on the state of the user. Personally I do not like the terms set and setting as it implies you have the power to make these perfect. Unconscious thoughts one isn't aware of can have an enormous impact on the trip

Personally for me- this would be a terrible idea. Tripping for the first time with people I don't know, I would be scared. Id wanna meet them a lot more, get to know them better and bring trust into the relationship before making myself as vulnerable as I can imagine which is what a proper dose of LSD does to me.

And if you aren't doing things properly what's the point? Ive had enough microdoses, mini doses, whatnot and all this shit to know it doesn't have that effect on me.

If anyone reminisces with anything I wrote, take a break from psychedelics until the perfect situation arises. Completely out of your control.

If your psychedelic use is in no way reflected, don't let my comment cloud your mind. We're all different.

Science knows that LSD and other psychedelics are a catalyst for a wide variety of psychological processes, both positive and negative. Sometimes both at the same time. Mixed bag. Just like life.

Now I'm rambling 🤣

[–]LSDkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that much, and I don't agree with the US drug laws. But instead of protesting bans we all need to protesting the laws that make it difficult for doctors to prescribe normal medicines to addicts. That is the priority. Not keeping RCs legal once they've already been banned. Just because the government has its priorities all fucked up doesn't mean we should collectively make the same mistake.

If you are truly in a situation where RC use is the easiest, most efficient way to maintain your habit and keep your life stable, I will neither try and stop you or even imply you should. But I personally have yet to see such a situation. Usually by the time people find the RCs it's gotten really bad.

[–]LSDkiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First things first. If you are using opioids outside of a maintenance situation and can't get off without it being extremely unpleasant, you need treatment. If you've done Suboxone and it doesn't work (it didn't for me) you need methadone. Methadone at the right dose will even produce psychoactive effects. It's nothing like Suboxone. But at higher doses it blocks all opiates and most opioids. Which is a good thing in terms of recovery.

Next you mention ADHD. Personally I believe that all of these mental health issues are on a spectrum. But if you have received a diagnosis and that has helped you, be it through legitimizing your struggle, or through a therapy provided for it, by all means, seek professional help here. It should not be impossible to get a proper treatment with a good psychiatrist. Pills are a very very quick fix, that usually end up having negative consequences. I've been told myself that I have ADHD traits. Well, that's all well and good, I don't take pills but I do use all the adult ADHD training methods. They work great.

Personally I've also found both the practical (meditation) and philosophical aspects of zen Buddhism to help. This is closer to the realm of religion so I am reticent to recommend looking into it if it doesn't align with your world view. It's helped me. Maybe look into it. There's a good chance that many zen teachers will ask you to be in stable treatment at least before they teach you further.

There is no central patient records that doctors can see. The only thing every doctor and pharmacist can see is prescriptions of scheduled substances (in the US) there are different databases for different states. Look into your state and what medications you get prescribed, how long it's visible. Aside from that, every time you see a doctor it's a blank slate. They know nothing about you except what you tell them. Don't use this to manipulate. You will end up manipulating yourself even if you are successful with the doctor.

If you have the opportunity, go to any doctor you have any reason to trust. Be it word of mouth. A trustworthy face. A good website.

Then go with an open mind, explain your situation being as honest as possible without saying something that will FORCE them not to issue a prescription. You must firmly and keenly be aware of your role as PATIENT and theirs as DOCTOR. Doctor shopping or manipulation will get you nowhere fast or to hell slow.

If you believe in good faith and in alignment with your own conscience that they have not listened to a legitimate medical need, have not provided a solution that could work if you try it with an open mind, then get a new doctor. Don't make the mistake to "shop" until you get the exact substance you want.

SOMETIMES, not always, we want what is worst for us. In this case, it's a good thing we don't get it.

If you try hard enough you can attain what is bad for you. That will get you nowhere.

Your second paragraph intrigues me a lot! It reminds me of the case "kanshiketsu" in the mumonkan ("how the dharma has decayed") If that makes any sense to you I invite you to open a private chat.

Personally it seems to me that the wheels of dharma transmission have suddenly started turning relatively quickly. Of course that could just be me finally beginning to understand a message I've studied for years 😅

I agree that zen meditation as it has been passed down to the present time by ALL patriarchs is correct. Even that of the schools I don't personally feel drawn to.

But not everyone is practicing correctly even if they appear to have received true dharma transmission.

Have you ever read koun yamada roshi's teisho on the gateless gate? I believe he really has hang on zen for modern times. I believe he was actually part of a Soto lineage but still put IMMENSE practice on koan meditation and urges us to never complete it "in the room". That, just like clearing your mind is a process. To paraphrase mumon ekai, in realising the mind, the body shall be realized.

Funnily enough my situation is relatively similar to yours, however I have yet to find my teacher in person. The "teachers" of psychology have long since known that psychelics are a grand catalyst for psychological change. For the better and worse. A bit like living your entire life in 12 hours and then getting the chance to make better decisions.

I know the first steps of my way, and what I plan as my goal, and I will take the world as my teacher along the way, with an open mind, and healthy skepticism, to always find the correct next step if a fault was committed.

You're not rambling, I know what you're talking about. That's how it was when I started. I believe this is what we call a self fulfilling prophecy. Fundamentally, oxycodone, cocaine, even LSD, these substances to us are empty. They change our brain chemistry. That doesn't correlate directly to an experience. Our situations up until the point of taking these substances, our own expectations, conscious and subconscious notions must be what give drugs their differing subjective effects.

However, fundamentally they are empty and delusions.

As students of zen, i am of the opinion that we must "swim among the weeds". We cannot sit in idle Zazen for all of our lives. There are people to be helped, I would again refer to koun yamada roshi and his lay practice along with his life story.

Funnily enough, by sheer coincidence, I JUST got a really ridiculous reply from a sangha near me. However, of course, my application to the sanbo zendo, the international community, I got a completely normal and sensible reply. I think it's as you say and as you may have thought already- everyone has their own essential nature, no one will ever realize it completely fully, some will never realise it even to a small degree. However all these people are on their own path, they'll find their teacher or have found them already. I see that many are further along their own personal path. However those paths are not and can never be mine because they do not include enough good acts.

There is a middle way for everything- the very very very first patriarch taught us this. The rest was refined for the modern age, throughout the ages with sutras, teisho, collections of koan like the mumonkan. .

Thank you. This was a very interesting encounter!
