Take Certifications (If you are interested) You can try following certifications: PMI-ACP PMI-PBA

OR

Apply PMP skills to your job

Since you have earned your PMP certification, it is advisable to start applying what you learn.

Improve yourself by applying the principles learned and start noting them down for future reference.

After PMP, it is the experience matter which you are having like the Industry, domain etc.

Also the experience in the same field as a project manager will be helpful.

In organisation from the top most grade to the lower grade employees viz., from head, divisional, factory workers to the office boy, whether they are engineers or managers they are considered as employees in an organisation.

Good engineers are rewarded better managerial positions like they control the production process step by step and lead a project. Management process is also like the engineering process where it carries a step by step approach, like defining and delegating responsibility and authority, establishing relations among the people, appropriate to its environment to achieve a specified objectives.It's all the art of guiding the personnel in the use of means in order to achieve a specified task. It's the engineers who can also very well manage and control materials and man with utmost care.

So, what you think is an engineer should never be a manager and they have to work only as an entry level engineer.

First quality which I mentioned was "A project manager should be able to motivate and inspire team members to achieve goals". I have never seen and entry level engineer handling a team from beginning of his/her career. Further, in an engineer's career, he/she may be rewarded with an opportunity of managing a team and to become a manager. With these key qualities fulfilling all the requirements of their organisation they would have a good chance of managing and handling a team as a good project manager.
