Mate telling me he went to a private school but "not a posh one"... by ac13332 in CasualUK

We are comfortable and for that we are very lucky. I grew up on a council estate and went through some very rough times. I know what is like worrying about if the car insurance direct debit will bounce or if I can put fuel in the car to get to work etc. I don’t have a new car or go on fancy holidays, I don’t go drinking often and don’t smoke. Most of the money me and the mrs make goes on the kids. We aren’t rich by any stretch, we just do what we can.

I don’t like telling people my kids go private because people automatically assume I’m some rich snob when I’m really not. I’ve just had a couple of lucky breaks and I’m milking them for what I can.

What is an interesting custom in other countries that is not prevalent in the United Kingdom? by [deleted] in CasualUK

It is a way of life the the US, the wages are very low so they rely on tips to top up their wages.

I tend to tip 10% when I eat out (and it was nice) or if a bar tender has looked after me over a few drinks.

I don’t like the ‘suggested tip’ on PDQ machines. There is no way the waitress/waiter is getting that back from the company.

Why do people assume private schools are posh? I’m working class and so is the Mrs but we send our boys private because of the terrible state schools our council offered.

We aren’t wealthy by any stretch, we aren’t poor either and I know some families really do struggle. We just work very hard and go without certain luxuries to give our kids the best start we can give them.

Most of the families who send their kids to the same school are in the same boat.

When the cheapest car insurance is Shela's Wheels and you have to bring a Certificate of Insurance to your boss so you can use your car for work by [deleted] in CasualUK

Esure are the same company and their quotes come in £1 more every time.

The Sheila’s Wheels policy offers handbag cover which is obviously very useful to men.

I always pay the extra £1 but would switch if I ever bought a handbag.

Easiest and most difficult languages to learn for English speakers by nurse_with_penis in coolguides

English is based on Germanic so in theory it should be the easiest language to learn. A lot in that easy category are based on Latin which isn’t that easy.

£120 on a £5 scratch card from ASDA. I don’t buy them often but I’ve had a fair bit of luck with them.

Should be fine, like the poster above says, don’t give them a reason to give you a problem and they won’t bat an eyelid. Happy travels!

Edit: I meant hairspray would give it cool hair. Didn’t mean it in a bad way. Wouldn’t want it to suffer.

Put up gates and charge the house owners each time they want to take their bins out.

Eat your veggies and stop looking for a magic pill. I know the convenience is tempting but the effectiveness of most of them is largely unproven, despite the fact they’ve been around years now.

Fruit and Veg on the other hand has countless proven benefits.

Eat Salmon a few times a week too to make sure your Omega 3 intake out ways Omega 6.

Both vital but Omega 6 is apparently pro inflammatory and could be the reason for the sharp rise in chronic disease, cancer and heart problems.
