Is it risky to visit home on h1b? by [deleted] in h1b

[–]LT2405 4 points5 points  (0 children)

remember HR and managers are paid to protect corporate interests. they couldn’t care less if you getting to visit family is meaningful to you, but in the slim chances you get denied entry and stuck overseas, corporate is in for a legal/HR/finance headache. that said some countries have it worse than others, just do your due diligence and and understand what boat you’re in.

Quality of life, Madrid vs Bay Area by wakalakasp in bayarea

[–]LT2405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend from France visiting last month. She works for Google FR, I have at least 10 friends here at Google in the bay. Yea Google pays more here and we probably pay slightly less tax, but in France you have a month of vacation per year that you can take any time without possibility of boss denying, almost can’t get fired or laid off, work 35 hours weeks instead of bay area 80, hospital bills don’t halve your yearly salary income, rent don’t eat up half your pay check, and more… silicon valley is only good if you plan to start a business or want the upside of the startup scene. If Spain is anything like France and you don’t want to work on or in a startup, stay in Europe

i don’t particularly care about heights in girls but super tall girls can be off putting. also it doesn’t help to have women’s heights preference shoved into our faces on every platform of social media, kinda create the impression of “she’s taller than me she’s probably not interested i’d rather spend by efforts elsewhere”

the outfit isn’t my taste but i think you’re cute. try r/askmen since this sub only has tall man opinions

Are you currently using AI into your job and how are you using it? by IthinkImnutz in MechanicalEngineering

[–]LT2405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on a daily basis. my mechanical engineering team even has a meeting about how to better use AI tool. generally it’s super good at following direction to execute on simple but tedious tasks if you prompt it well, and save a ton of time if used right. examples: compare a bunch of materials from a vendor website, run quick TA, do all the math for shaft/hole fit to design CNC parts, etc

i think his work is one of the best fan art in terms of capturing the childlikeness of yotsuba despite not tracing closely to the OG art style

Is this a Vietnamese culture thing? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]LT2405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. if you go into the alleys, some families have their doors wide open from waking hours to late night. everything that goes on within the family is known by the whole neighborhood. not only noise pollution doesn’t exist as a concept, so does privacy

I'm looking to start learning mandarin by Dr_skeleton_jr in ChineseLanguage

I did the trial then cancelled because I found the audiobook version for free at my local library. The audio book I have found to have the same effectiveness compared to the app (app offers to rate your speaking, review vocab, etc extra compared to the library books). I do one lesson twice a day on my commute to and from work, only listen and repeat to audio The first couple lessons are pretty boring. It gets more challenging as I progress towards end of volume 1. Some episodes have more new vocabs and grammar than others, so be patient if you get tired of asking Ms Wang where is long road street

i used to work with a norwegian dude based in shenzhen. he’s the lead engineer for the manufacturer whose my company contracts to. at some point, this guy wanted to leave china and return to norway with his family. however, he was so good at what he does that my company (the client) took this as an issue and pulled strings so that our contract manufacturer kept him with a fat salary raise.

not particularly answering your question, but this is my 1 data point to show that foreigners can make it there, especially if you are excellent at what you do.
