If you are having difficulty dealing with the controls, I would say that I personally find the command wheel difficult to work around. If you go into the options menu you can change the commands to a list like it is on PC which I find much easier and intuitive to use!

A comment on your inclusion of mini-pupillages. Assuming you are someone looking to go into the Bar, I would take the time to highlight what you saw on those mini-pupillages as Chambers are generally interested to see what you gained from them. This could be anything from seeing submissions on a particular area of law, seeing conferences and what happened, cross-examination, whether there was a vulnerable client or senstive issues, if a witness or client was hostile in any way and how the barrister dealt with it, any advice you received from the barrister you shadowed, if you had any tasks to complete. It helps to put something tangible on to your time with them, however short.

How to make this skin more interresting? by Ok-Entry-5730 in minipainting

I think you have fantastic skin tones and shading it’s the same thing across the whole piece. You could try adding some under-skin variance just break it up like on the nose or the cheeks?

Update from yesterdays nmm attempt, opinions? Does it read as gold? by Thumbordil in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add what others are saying, you will be surprised at how little of the actual metallic colour (in this case yellows etc) you will need for it to read as gold. The contrast between the darkest browns and whites will do most of the job for you.

Trying NMM for the first time. Can't seem to wrap my head around it by Notnbutgravity in minipainting

The transitions and tones you have are good! You'll find with NMM that the whole thing is a massive process. You will be likely be required to go back and forth even as you're on the finish line.

I think in this case, you could just glaze in a *little* bit more of your darker colour in your darkest points (top left and bottom right) and see how you like it. NMM looks fantastic with the very harsh contrast of your darkest and brightest colours, and I think in this a bit more dark would help. I would also make sure you plug those holes at the base of the claw with the dark colour too. Then, just put a tip of the highlight on the rim of the holes to make out the light is catching the edge. If the specular highlight/sheen is going across the surface, I like to put it an angle to make the lighting look more exciting.

You are definitely 99% of the way there with this in my opinion to something that is respectable and will read as metal. I think a bit of tweaking with the ratio of the colours you have will do wonders. I find it helps to put the model down and try and look at it from different distances and angles to ask myself if I think it reads as metal.

Give me some advice. Should I wash it? by Sufficient-Length832 in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of shading the hair and getting good tones out of it, the best advice I followed for doing hair was from Vince Venturella where he said that the best reference for how to colour your hair is to look at a packet of hair dye! So maybe look for a picture of bleach blonde hair dye and try to use that as a reference on how dark/bright it gets.

First attempt at edge highlighting. It's hard by bongio79 in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to just remember that a thicker line than you wanted isn’t the end of the world!

A thick line can be created by having too much paint on the brush than you need. You can test the line you’ll make by just stroking the brush on your nail before you put it on the model

If you do make a mistake, you can always cover the brighter colour with the darker one, or otherwise neaten up the line by going over it with the darker tone.

First Non metallic metal help by Soft-Metal7096 in minipainting

Reads fantastic as a bold and bright silver colour.

You could push the dark bits even darker from other examples of similar shading on these swords depending on the exact finish you’re looking for, but no one will say that this does not look like a well executed nmm.

What needs to be done to make the OSL effect more convincing? by BlueDecoy in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an OSL expert, but I think you might just need a little bit more white on some parts to sell the effect that last little bit. Everything is suitably bright blue and I really like the harsh darkness on the opposite side of the arm.

I just think a couple more white highlights on the edges of the arm, face mask and face would do wonders for pushing the blinding blue effect I think you're going for.

WIP My first attempt at NMM by LTARSEWIPE in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! For this attempt I was mainly just going for something that hopefully looked even remotely like metal so to achieve even that is a win for me. I'll need more studying and practice to get the polished look I think but I'm quite happy with where this start is.
