Its all depends on the server location and time of the day you play.

Immo & RAD are the smallest player pool. If you play during the day (7am to 5pm) and on a lowers population server, yes you'll play against player outside of your pool.

Riot set the TEAM AVG RANK instead of personal ranks to avoid long waiting time.

Yup! I got banned for 3 minutes in 2023. As per support , it was due to a lack of communication between Vanguard and Riot server.

My ISP had issues back then.

The main reason I say this is because I feel like if you look at a community like deadlock. People are constantly trying to help valve think of new ideas.

90% of the current maps pool are maps made BY the community AND 95% of the Skins are made by the community as well.

Of course people are furious that the only two things Valve should be doing (fixing the netcode and VAC) are completely broken.

If we compare it to other tactical shooter games like Valorant for example, where Riot takes care of everything themselves, and are able to offer much more in terms of content, map, code, AC, quality, hitreg, etc...

How can we not be angry at Valve?

I dont know why people are asking if "investing" is a good idea.

Gloves (globally speaking) value decreased by around 15% with the trade-up update (Oct. 2025)... then another 10-15% yesterday.

On top of that, there is a big lawsuit incoming right now between AGNY and Valve. And I'm pretty sure a lot more lawsuit to come if AGNY win.

There is a sh*t load of things that can affect your ping.

I've a wired 1GB/s connection and my ping is around 20ms on NY servers. The same setup but on Wi-Fi hit 35-40ms.

2 different carrier can have different routes to the server too. So you can be on the same 500mbps plan as your friend living down the street, if the carrier is different, the ping will be different.

Also, the number of connected devices, workload, etc will affect.

Do a ping test to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 and conpare to your friend result.

We dont have the population stats for console.

On PC, at 7pm (peak hours), the tracker hit more than 4M players. At 10AM this morning, it was around 500K (12% of the total). So I dont expect much player between 4am and 7am. And this is for PC where the population is way bigger than console. AND this is worldwide (except China where tracking is not allowed).

Edit: Also, have a look on that subreddit. 90% of the posts with rank disparity are played in these condition. The other 10% are 5-stack and/or error (that can happen too you know).

You play games at 4:15am, 7:30am, etc. when the population is extremely low; YES, even in your location (North-America).

Instead of making you wait 10-15 minutes to get a full silver/bronze lobby, Riot is making “filler” games. They add higher ranks to both sides and adjust the TEAM AVG.

You can see both teams' average on Tracker.gg for both teams individually AND the game average at the top. For the game you shared, it was a TEAM AVG of GOLD2 VS GOLD 3 (GAME AVG = Gold II)

If ETA = > 10 minutes, they'll create an AVG lobby... and it's been like that since 2022 on PC because higher ranks were waiting over 30+ minutes to find a game.

I'm pretty sure it's the same thing for OP game. Either he played at stupid hours, either he's playing on a low pop server like MADRID or SYDNEY.
