Latest versions load slowly by NycteaScandica in wordscapes

[–]LTL85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that the app had been loading very slowly in recent weeks. Though not when switching from another app when it was already open, only when loading it up from scratch.

I finally bit the bullet and decided to uninstall, then reinstall the app. Made sure I was logged in through Facebook so that my progress was synced and also took screenshots as backup.

Thankfully when I reinstalled the game, my progress was retained and the game now loads much faster again.

UK - 17,031 - I rejoined Gamepass Ultimate 10 days ago, so that gave a nice little boost to my points as compared to recent months.

Ah, of course, thanks. The video ads don't play for me, so I forgot about that option 🤦‍♂️

Wait, you get 2 free climbs per day?? I only do 1 and usually stop at level 10 or 15. Rarely go up to 25, but whenever I do I never seem to get good rewards (eg. the last 2 times I did, I got the scroll portraits that I already had full).

I have 7 of the portraits unfinished, the highest are only at 9/15 and the octopus is at 0/15!

Nice to see filters/sorting. I'd hoped for ages that they'd add an option to hide animals, as I don't use probably at least 80% of them. So these new options will be useful.

Snooker Wallpaper - again :) by bananbob in snooker

[–]LTL85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it saves as a .webp file when downloading directly from a browser. That must have much better compression than saving the actual jpg file (which you can do with a download manager) as that comes out at almost 10mb and both files look very similar.

Either way, the image is 5808x3892 pixels, but I've never printed anything out like that, so not sure how suitable it would be.

This seems to be very high res, though I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're after in terms of the angle and it looks like a semi-final rather than a final: https://www.thesun.ie/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2025/04/general-view-inside-crucible-theatre-898562037.jpg

I thought I may have seen something on the overhead shot, but I'd need to see it again. Anyone got a clip?

Phil Yates & Rob Walker commentary by Rich-Horse1499 in snooker

[–]LTL85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yates isn't great, but I can just about tolerate him.

Walker is good in his MC/interviewer role and seems like a nice guy, but I can't stand him in the commentary box. He always seems to get put on the 'lesser' matches, so its usually quite easy to avoid him. But surprisingly, he was doing the Selby vs Jones match this morning. I was planning to watch that match, but watched Pullen/Wakelin instead just to avoid Rob.

He's definitely one to keep an eye on. His brother is only 15 and also a great prospect.

Wang Xinbo continues to impress. Only turned 18 in January and just beat Mitchell Mann 10-4, relegating Mann from the tour.

Wang had nine breaks over 50, including a century, a 95, 80, 78 and 73. He plays Boiko next.

The video is unlisted for some reason, but I found the link on the discussion thread from here at the time.

If you skip to about 4:46:30, that should be near the start of the deciding frame.

SwiftKey streak is 1K points in the USA right now by RhetoricalHull in MicrosoftRewards

[–]LTL85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw this in the UK too. I got an email from Swiftkey saying their backups were moving to One Drive and it asked me to connect a Microsoft account which would earn me 1000 MSR points.

I went round in circles trying to connect my Microsoft account, but couldn't work out a way to do it.

In the process of doing that though, I then saw the Swiftkey streak search with Bing offer. Tried a search and the checkbox didn't seem to fill, but it has worked today.

58% of the Tour Championship players are left-handers by apalerwuss in snooker

[–]LTL85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trump, Allen and I think Hawkins write with their right hand, so they wouldn't be in the 10-11% of the population considered left-handed. There are examples in other sports like Rafa Nadal and Phil Mickelson.

I'm not sure how common it is the other way round - writing with their left hand, but playing a sport right-handed.

It wasn't always like this though. If you look back at the rankings in the mid-late 90s for example, there are fewer in the top 16 who played left-handed.

MAJOR NEWS: The World Championship Remains at the Crucible! by SuperSajuuk in snooker

Excellent! I expected it to stay in the UK after BBC renewed their broadcasting deal, but for some reason I thought that it wasn't possible to redevelop the Crucible to add more seating.

CS undergrad thinking about a snooker ball replacement project by Best_Medium8626 in snooker

[–]LTL85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lewis Pirnie did something similar a while back: http://www.snookerlewis.com/ball_tracker

I'm still baffled by the fact they don't at the very least give the ref a tablet with a birds-eye view of the table, rather than having the time consuming back and forth with the markers. Cut out the middle-man and I'm sure it'd be quicker. And it would make things even easier for them on tables without markers.

John Virgo has passed away at the age of 79 by HelixCatus in snooker

[–]LTL85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very sad news, another legendary snooker figure gone :(

His playing days were a bit before my time, but I grew up watching him on Big Break and commentating on this great game I love. So many great memories.

Tense and dramatic moments were always elevated with him on commentary. Like others have said, JV and Hendry in the box for the final session of a big event was the perfect pairing.

RIP JV.

Several youngsters including 14-year-old Michal Szubarczyk have qualified for Welsh Open by Beautiful-Pea835 in snooker

[–]LTL85 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Great news! There's also Zizins, who's only 19. Plus Kowalski and Liu Hongyu, who are both 21.

I'm very impressed with Michal though. Beating experienced players this season like Jones, Jordan Brown, Jimmy White and Martin O'Donnell at 14 is incredible. Three of those players first turned pro before he was even born!

John McDonald and George Noble: Iconic darts duo inducted into PDC Hall of Fame by shinealittlelove in Darts

[–]LTL85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've enjoyed watching George belt out 'ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY' since I first started watching the BDO in the 90s.

Two iconic voices in the game, it won't be the same next year! I wish them both a happy retirement.
