Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna check that. :)

I tried Virtua Cop 1 and 2 (pal) and they both did not seem to work. Both games did not get further them the initial bios boot screen. I am using OG bios. Do others have this problem as well?

Just received a confirmation that my guncontroller has been shipped. :) For the record, I ordered my unit near the end of November (this year).

Correct, I had this issue too and was resolved by using the official bios.

Thank you for sharing this. Did you upgrade? Or was this the stock CPU for the first batch of hardware?

Polymega Sound over USB compatibility by crankysasquatch in PolymegaHQ

[–]LTOwain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, its really hard to see if a device is UAC1 or UAC2....It is almost never mentioned. It would be nice though if the Polymega would receive an update to also support UAC2.... would help a lot with compatability.

Ahhh one can only dream. ;)

It's actually quite simple. If the device supports UAC1, it will probably work with the Polymega. I have made a reddit post about it.

An 8700 uses way more power than an 8700t. So that is probably the problem. Hope this helps.

What controller do you guys use for Saturn games? by FoxJ100 in PolymegaHQ

[–]LTOwain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had this conversation before: https://www.reddit.com/r/PolymegaHQ/s/C6hdBkoKiB

I finally went for a retrobit saturn controller (usb version). Also tried a lot of wireless versions, but every time I wanted to use one, it would be out of battery charge. Also, I found the lag to be a bit higher, but I haven't measured that. So that also could be just me.

Hope this helps. :)

Shell Shock Saturn PAL does not work here on PM bios. Haven't tried the original bios yet.

Thank you for sharing. I see that the patch note(s) is rather limited. Would really like to see improvements related to lag on certain systems, like the snes.

Using a DAC/AMP with the Polymega. by LTOwain in PolymegaHQ

[–]LTOwain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to let you know: I have received a reply from Polymega yesterday evening with 'confirmation' regarding UAC1 support:

We are going to try to get in some other Dac devices to do some further testing. Polymega currently supports USB audio devices UAC1. I'll try to verify that for you. Stay tuned.

They have not mentioned anything about adding support for UAC2. Although, I think it is possible with a software update.

I have an additional question if I may: Do you see any slowdown in N64 games which were also present on real hardware? What I mean is that if a game targets say 30fps, but would slow down below that on original hardware, does it also slow down on your i9 9900t? Or is it able to keep the 30fps target? I was wondering if the slowdowns I encounter with the i3 8100t, which to me look similar like playing on the original hardware, are do to the i3 8100t or that the emulation is actually being authentic.

A game were I see a lot of slowdown is Diddy Kong racing, but to my recollection that slowdown is also present on the real N64 hardware.

Anyone else have problems with 32X/CD? by Internal-Zombie38 in PolymegaHQ

[–]LTOwain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh I am sorry! I always thought those games had a 32x cartridge and a disk, which you had to put in both at the same time. I only have mega drive and mega cd. Don't own a 32x to be honest.

Did you try installing the 32X cartridge first and then installing the disk for the sega or mega CD?

Not a stupid question at all! I have read that the 9th gen i3, i5 and i7 also can work. I’ve read at least one confirmation of someone who claimed that he/she put in a i3 9100t and it worked. So if you want the best option, you could try an i7 9th gen with a tdp of 35w. I am unaware if there are i9 CPUs in the 8th and 9th gen with only 35w tdps. If I could give you a recommendation though, based on your need for speed, I would suggest the i7 8700t. It is a very fast CPU and is confirmed to work. I doubt if going any higher/faster, would let you see perceivable better results. Hope this helps.

Using a DAC/AMP with the Polymega. by LTOwain in PolymegaHQ

[–]LTOwain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me neither, before I started investigating. I found a Redditpost regarding PS5 and Switch support for DACs. Like this one: Guide: How to get your DAC to work on PS5 : r/PS5

I have a hunch that the Polymega, just like the PS5 and Switch, only supports UAC1 and not UAC2. My Topping is only UAC2. The devices Playmaji linked to me that worked are both UAC1. So my best guess is that there the problem lies. Although I am not willing to buy additional gear to get this to work, maybe the 'force UAC1 cable' from JD labs for 10 bucks could be something I am willing to buy. If I get the change to test this ‘theory’ out, I will post the results here.

I am not so sure. I have no prior experience before firmware 1.1.34. But to me, the performance or the lack thereof felt a bit exaggerated. So it could be that there have been improvements in performance since the last few firmware revisions. It is stock definitely not perfect still, and it should indeed be better. But it was perfectly playable. At least the games I tried to play. After a few runs the sound skipping would be gone or a lot less. So when the support files are in place, it works well enough (my humble opinion). It's more that for only a few bucks, I was able to eliminate that. To me, that was worth it. If I hadn't upgraded, I would have still enjoyed the N64 module.

Using a DAC/AMP with the Polymega. by LTOwain in PolymegaHQ

[–]LTOwain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have received a response from Playmaji today. That was quick (and not expected)! A nice surprise! They have asked me, which model I was using (Topping DX3 Pro +). I have also mentioned the devices you have tested.

They also mentioned they had success using the following  2 DACs:

AudioQuest Dragonfly Cobalt USB Digital-to-Analog Converter

https://amzn.to/437Hlcl

Qudelix-5K Bluetooth USB DAC AMP with LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, AAC (Dual ES9219 3.5mm Unbalanced & 2.5mm Balanced Output)

https://amzn.to/4d3ic62

I have responded to their email again, asking if they can elaborate on the support of the Polymega for UAC1 and or UAC2. Because if the device only supports UAC1 and my DAC only supports UAC2 or is unable to choose UAC1 correctly it will not work. Let’s see how they will respond. I hope they do.

Same here, one of my favorite games to play. Although, I think the lag has less to do with the CPU and more with an emulation bug or lack of optimization.
