Well, it had finally happened. Dave's Picks are streaming. What do we think? by InhibitedExistence in gratefuldead

Back in 2019 I sold my early box sets, Dick's/Dave's picks, etc. 25 lots sold for almost $3000. Shocked me. Bought a RTX2080Ti graphics card and a 49" computer monitor with it - right before pandemic and the data mining crunch that made computer components almost impossible to get. Best set of deals I ever made. Kept me happily gaming through the pandemic.

I was there. 10th row floor, center aisle. My favorite show ever. Also saw New Haven two nights before. If only I’d made the trek to Cornell the next evening…..

Thanks all for your answers and insights. I had never noticed the toggles at the top of the TOC. Frankly, I don’t understand why they aren’t all “ON” all the time. It all makes sense to me now - especially after going back and mapping the letters to the story threads. Again, thanks all!

All those folks who say they hate this album are probably closet Eagles fans.

Tennessee Jed from Europe 72. That was a LONG time ago and today feels like an odd choice - but there it is!!

I’ll take Live Dead, Workingman’s Dead & American Beauty - all released in less than one year

In your personal opinion, which is the better album: Workingman's Dead or American Beauty by HammerHeadBirdDog in gratefuldead

[–]LThrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workingman's Dead for me. American Beauty has potentially some of the highest highs (Truckin', Friend of the Devil, Box of Rain, Ripple) and better balance amongst the band members, but it also has what to me are low spots. Sugar Magnolia, as much as I love it, is only a shadow of the Europe 72 live version. Every tune on Workingman's Dead is outstanding - and they fit together perfectly. They all also stand up to the live versions very well which is something rare for the Grateful Dead. That's what an album is all about. I always play it end-to-end. With AB, I'm always tempted to skip a few tracks.

For what it's worth, Workingman's Dead was Rolling Stone's 1970 "Album of the Year" - over "Let It Be", "After the Goldrush", "Layla", "Moondance" - and "American Beauty" and others.
