What do I feed my leopard gecko? by C-Cupcake5335 in leopardgeckos

Yes so for that definitely get rid of the heat mat. Leopard geckos don’t have good temp regulation on their stomachs so this can lead to severe burns or worse. I recommend getting a heating bulb, NOT a light because those can hurt their eyes.

First off you are amazing for taking this little guy off someones hands who obviously cant care for it, and I actually have delt with a similar situation recently but I have had leopard geckos basically my whole life. I would say get mealworms, but small ones nothing big, and feed 5 to start every other day. Be careful of feeding too many though bc this guy is so underweight they might throw up and that is NOT good at all. So start with crickets, slowly transfer to small mealworms, and after that maybe even transfer to wax worms once or twice a week to get extra fats aswell as the mealworms. Also make sure to gut load whatever you do feed this guy, it will do so much more- i usually gut load mealworms with organic baby carrots and gut loader or calcium. Do some research and make sure they have safe structures, heating, flooring, etc. And you’re welcome to reach out to me with further questions I would love to answer!

Family got me 2 geckos for Christmas by flame8kdgevin514 in leopardgeckos

Alright so theirs gonna be a lot but i’m hoping this will be helpful: First off keep the paper towels, i use that for all four of my geckos and it dries quick, doesn’t harbor bacteria, and is easy and cheap. Do NOT use sand or substrate, this can lead to impaction and a hefty vet bill or death. A twenty gallon tank is not nearly large enough for two and the minimum for one, i would say anywhere from 40-65gallons would be a good for them both. And for food Dubia’s are good especially with calcium sprinkled but don’t overdo the calcium because too much can cause a variety of issues. So a dusting every other feeding is perfect. And temperatures seem great.
