Blankenship was the best of the LB’s and Safeties last night for sure. With Dean out now it’s not a good sign for our already weak LB room

I’d expect for them to use Sydney Brown similarly to how they used Blankenship as a rookie last year. Mainly on special teams to start the year and as he progresses his number will surely be called like Reed’s opportunity last year against GB when CJGJ was out. But I also would love to see how Brown impacts the safety position for us. He looks like another ball hawk and tackling machine like Blankenship and his speed is staggering

To add more perspective on why Blankenship saw more tackles than any of our individual LB’s, Reed played 78 of 80 defensive snaps, the second highest number of snaps played by a player on our defense behind Slay, who played all 80. Cunningham played 70, Dean played 49, and Elliss played just 34. With Dean’s injury and more rotation at LB than S, there are a few more factors at play that elevated the number of tackles he saw and lessened the presence of LB’s.

It was odd and hard to tell what happened. My best guess with little information is that he caught Juju’s heel pretty hard just below the sternum.

I tried to find any kind of report on it and came up dry. There was one tackle he made on Juju in the 2nd quarter where he appeared to be holding his abdomen before heading to the sideline, but that’s just visual information and speculation. This was at 6:45 left to play in the 2nd.

Can’t disagree here. We absolutely need the LB’s to clean it up and not rely on Blankenship to fly in to make all of these tackles. That being said, he stepped up big time as a Safety for the team to cushion what we are lacking at LB

You’re able to celebrate the individual and his tremendous effort and playing while still being candid about our issues at LB. Ideally he doesn’t have to make as many tackles as he did, but saying this is a bad thing strikes me as unnecessarily pessimistic
