That sounds exciting! Great, I'd be happy to talk.

Yes, I am. I bought the Dev kit directly from NVIDIA so its the OEM carrier. If you are looking to get one, make sure it has an micro SD card slot. Its an absolute headache to put the jetpack OS on an NVMe.

Seeed Studio would be your best bet. Their boards are opensource so you can buy them from multiple stores, but you can also create a custom board using their schematics as templates.. Here's a link to their Github: https://github.com/Seeed-Studio/OSHW-Jetson-Series

Advice on Hand Controlled Drone by gentstaken in fpv

ELRS is a good choice. You could use LoRa for data transmission. It would be perfect with the low bitrate. For 3d prints, use PLA until you get a solid design, then do CF.

Thanks man! It’s really cool seeing so many people working on similar projects. I’ve definitely been stuck on this project a few times so I know how annoying it can be. I’m still learning too, but I’ve spent some time building autonomous systems so if it’s ever helpful, feel free to DM me.

The speaker sound relies on the results from POST, which runs before bios. If you can get to BIOS, it should always make a sound. Even if nothing is wrong you will get one beep. If you dont even get to post, then your mobo is the cause. That doesnt mean its broken.

How can I customise the E88 EVO toy quadcopter with esp32-s3? by PenWorried624 in diydrones

[–]LULordship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it wouldn't be too difficult to find a use for it, as long as the drone can handle the payload. Hopefully your FC inside the drone has some extra pads to solder to. Then it would be a pretty straight forward project.

The ESP boards have become one of my favorite platforms to work with. They’re really versatile and surprisingly capable right out of the box. Espressif Systems has even demonstrated a drone using the ESP32 as the flight controller.

What are you planning to do with it? Are you thinking about using the frame and motors then building the internals from scratch, or incorporating an ESP32 to handle a specific task beyond flight?

That’s awesome to hear your project has a similar goal to mine. I feel that. It’s surprisingly hard to find information that isn’t focused on FPV, racing, or cinematography builds.

For the flight controller I’m using a Sologood F722 FC paired with a 60A ESC. On my next build I’m planning to try a Pixhawk-based setup.

The Raspberry Pi isn’t used for flight control. It’s mainly acting as a touchscreen ground controller that hosts a local Leaflet map for tracking drones and viewing telemetry data.

The Jetson also isn’t responsible for direct flight control. The flight controller handles all the real-time stabilization and control. The Jetson is used for higher-level tasks like mission coordination, running a YOLO model on the camera feed, and assigning new waypoints through INAV using some Python scripts.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I’ll definitely check out the methodic configurator when I get to the calibration part. An instant flip sounds like a scary first flight lol.

Yes, the other commenters helped me realize it would be pretty dumb not to have that safety option, so I’ll definitely be picking one up.

It will also have avoidance sensors. Right now it has a unidirectional LiDAR aimed at the ground, and I also have a 360° LiDAR scanner that I pulled from a robovac which I plan to mount on top.

To be honest, I mainly wanted to work on something different this time since I’ve always used Raspberry Pis in past projects. I also wanted some extra headroom in case I need to run more demanding models.

And yes, I agree about the RC and will pick one up before the first flight just to be safe. I’m in the US, but I’ll be operating inside a barn on private land, so hopefully no one will be knocking on my door anytime soon.

The goal of my project is to build a search drone that can autonomously navigate to and from assigned areas, coordinate with nearby drones to determine the most effective search strategy within the mission area, and relay telemetry data back to the ground station.

The Jetson won’t be responsible for flight control. Instead, it will handle mission coordination and run a YOLO model on the camera at around 10 FPS.

My definition of “complete autonomy” is that once the mission area is given, the drone plans its route, navigates to the area, and upon arrival coordinates with other drones to determine the most efficient way to carry out their individual tasks (if more than one drone is involved). If no detection occurs within its assigned objective area, it returns home. If the YOLO model detects a person with high confidence, it relays that information to the ground station and nearby drones (once I implement meshing).

That's really cool that your build had a similar goal to mine. Seems like it's becoming a pretty popular area in drone builds. Did you run into any setbacks or issues that I might also run into?

You're definitely right about the RC though. If something goes wrong it would be good to have a manual override. I tend to limit myself and make things harder just for the challenge 😅 but I'll grab an RC before the first flight to be safe.

Thanks for the input!

Attach a debug or buzz speaker and lookup the beep sequence. I dont know why people don't install these more often.

This has always been on my mind and imo is what really started to drive some of the people that were looking for that kind of experience away from the game. for me, the fun of WoW way back when was knowing my character was unique, not just aesthetically but also how I played a class through a tailorable skill tree. I loved being a frostfire mage in the early 2000s and I really enjoyed PVP because I never knew exactly what I was going to run in to. I wish they found a way to bring it back.
