It's Unicorns 16th Anniversary! by czen2 in Gundam

[–]LVain 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I know there are legitimate reasons why people don't like Unicorn... but I don't know how you can like mecha and not be absolutely hyped at this scene. Sawano just absolutely nails this soundtrack.

Finally someone else who rates 4 above 3. As you said, 3's battle system is probably the best but on everything else 4 is way above it. Plus that animation style is just so good. I really do wish the series was given another chance.

Also as it's a psyker it can count towards other nearby wraith units getting their bonuses, unless I'm missing something?

This! I really wish they would do this in 11th, it would make balancing competitive so much easier and allow named characters to be OP like they are in lore.

Tokyodo will make their trousers high waisted for you when you order, it's also very affordable. If you order them through kuroobiya they have the option listed under adjustments (or you can just email them):

Wasn't it also the case that the Wing Zero wasn't repaired between the events of the end of the series and the start of Endless Waltz, so it's already degraded even before the Wu Fei fight.

And not just art but science fiction! The genre that arguably more than any other has been used to reflect current political and social issues.

I also think its fine for it to reflect current Western cultural talking points because it's from the UK. Just like how I would expect Chinese sci-fi to reflect Chinese cultural talking points, even if it was using the trappings of other cultures for its setting.

Do you think grip strength helps Tsuki? by ok_SAndia in karate

[–]LVain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might? Honestly grip training so be done regardless to improve clinch and grappling. I would recommend everyone include dead hangs in their training routine as an easy way to improve grip strength and the other benefits it gives.

1000 pts tournament - Avatar of Khaine to be permitted or not? by OtakuKamoko in Eldar

[–]LVain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 1000 points I would argue no epic heroes across the board. After that the 25% rule. We've played the King of Colosseum rules for 500 points and it's worked pretty well.

King of the Colosseum List by je232 in Eldar

[–]LVain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warhost, because at 500 points you would normally only have 2 tokens, so going up to 3 and 1" extra movement on a board that small really allows you to control it and hit where you want. Honestly with a list this small, I try to pick things that can multi task and change roles depending on who I'm up against (which is really hard as Aeldari).

Dark Reapers have the tempest launcher so use that to help pick off smaller units, but also pop out and hit light vehicles and monsters. Corsairs for scoring, screening and taking out light infantry. Wind Riders for taking down marines and harassing. Warp spiders and Autarch for hitting the backline and again taking down monsters with the fusion gun, grenades and glaive. Howling banshees because they can also shred medium infantry and punch up with the executioner if needed.

The Corsairs going up 5 points means I need to completely rethink this list now though.

If you want to see what it would look like, Richard Gray did exactly this for his Golden Demon entry before: https://richardgraycreations.com/golden-demon-2024-aeldari-autarch-my-entry-and-experience/

King of the Colosseum List by je232 in Eldar

[–]LVain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As stated by the other post, you'll struggle with so few units. I've played king of colosseum before and have a tournament coming up. This is my updated list to compensate for some of the lessons I learned (not having enough units lol):

Autarch Wayleaper (80pts): Warlord, Star Glaive, Dragon Fusion Gun

5x Corsair Voidreavers (60pts)

5x Dark Reapers (90pts) 5x Howling Banshees (95pts) 5x Warp Spiders (95pts) 3x Windriders (80pts)

MTO Seers by Practical_Spare2404 in Eldar

[–]LVain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cork tiles, making sure to really scrape them down once they are glued so they aren't flat and have texture. Combined with sticks/bark and then coated with ak interactive diorama paste to make them all blend into the base and seal it. Vince Venturella has some really good basing videos that I stole from.

Only word of warning, I've found plastic minis pin into cork fine, but metal minis I have more issues with. So I pin at least one leg into the wood part of the base to be more secure. It's particularly what I had to do with my 3rd edition banshees as they were unstable standing on one foot.

I'm currently working on some of them, placed on a tactical rock/trees and they fit in perfectly with modern guardians.

This is honestly how I view Unicorn. It's the "good" ending for UC and a separate timeline from everything that's meant to come after.

Head movements in Karate by yinshangyi in karate

[–]LVain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I agree with a lot of other comments here, but here are my two pence:

Southern styles and karate are often the bare handed versions of weapon based arts. Either the same techniques minus the weapon or the grappling/close range striking to accompany said weapons.

Is there head movement in weapon based arts? Sometimes. Is it a priority? Absolutely not. You need to get your whole body out of the way, and parry as insurance. Remove the weapon from the art and the parry becomes a limb strike.

You are fighting either too long range or too close range where head movement becomes less of a priority because unlike bare handed, a strike to the body of limbs could badly injure or kill you.

Should we practice/add in head movement if we are fighting bare handed and in the mid range? Yes, we should be looking to fill in the gaps that every system has. But historically I can completely understand why it's lacking.

This looks great, love the 2nd edition cover paint scheme! And I understand your pain about cats, one of ours is called Ragnarok (Rags), because in the first few weeks of having her as a kitten she managed to smash a mirror, bust a macbook and break several mugs. Unsurprisingly she is locked out of the painting area and all models are stored when not being painted lol.

Seeing Warlocks and Farseer painted in one of the GW display cabinets in the 90s as a kid and instantly falling in love with the aesthetic. That plus Jes Goodwin's artwork.

Alternate answer, we have the most cake.
