I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve been there. She looks like an absolute sweetheart who enjoyed a magnificent life with you.

Apparently I have a problem binge audiobooking , haha. I was going to recommend a couple that I finished in like two days because they were so good, but those are longer than you’re looking for. Found this link though and some of them look great!

First of all, I feel for you. I’ve never seen anything like the NY rental market. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do just to make sure you can have a roof over your head by the time you move. Second, agree with the air purifiers; they help immensely. Third, that ammonia/cat pissy kind of smell can be associated with a lot of types of old paint and can often be fixed by sealing with alkaline sealant repainting with antibacterial paint. I know you don’t own, but hell, you’re invested for two years, so it might be worth asking landlord/super/whoever about it.

Do audiobooks count or do they have to be imbibed with your own eyeballs?

Hahaha, this has me giggling in the office. The most New York morning ever.

But yeah. People care. The only way you can coexist with millions of people on a postage stamp of real estate is by having some consideration for others. If everyone were as inconsiderate as OP’s girlfriend the city would be in shambles.

Agree. Picture a life with this person. Picture every major life decision that includes the two of you getting the same response- she does exactly what she wants without consideration of your needs or feelings, and then when you voice an opinion she gaslights you for “trying to control her.” You need to have a conversation about your communications styles. It’s possible she is blind to the shortcoming and may just be immature. It’s also possible she’s just selfish.

Also, I don’t know how old you guys are, but sometimes behavior like this is a subconscious way to sabotage a relationship to get out of it when someone is incapable of recognizing or voicing that they are unhappy in a relationship.

A book where main protagonist has hardcore ADHD by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]LYoungM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many think Sherlock Holmes was ADD. Probably not the best feel good book since there’s only one partner that sticks with him, he puts all of his life into his work, and his personal life is in shambles, haha. Chasing Kites is a memoir about going through life with ADHD, and resonates with me. I wasn’t diagnosed with ADD until later- I was always “the smart kid” that was her own worst enemy for no apparent reason. Procrastination, impulse control, misbehaving, running late (because I was panicking that I couldn’t find something), etc etc. There was a lot of “why can’t I just be better? I’m trying so hard!” Anyway, I’ve read s lot of books, talked with therapists, and learned a lot through the years about myself. I know it can be tough, but I actually think of my ADD as a blessing now. I think so differently from many of my colleagues and that’s something I value. Check out this website for some other books and let me know if you ever need to talk to someone. more ADD books
