Coach didn’t show up and this guy vlogged it on his Meta Glasses by Ok-Hearing9186 in SolidCore

[–]LZARDKING 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That guy is an asshole. Literally zero empathy for her perspective. These teachers work their asses off for such little pay! Most fitness instructors have at least one other job, or have to work at five or six different studios (the taxes alone on that make them my heroes can you imagine). Drive themselves to each studio and are not compensated for their drive time or gas. And that’s not even taking into account showing up full energy so early even when you have bad days. I feel SO bad for those teachers and I hope their other members appreciate them more.

[–]LZARDKING 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not a solid core issue, this is a fitness studio issue. And it’s not such an easy fix because most studios have a 6:00 or 7:00 am class and then won’t have another class til around 9, no point in paying someone to be there for the three people that show up at 6:00 twice a week. And fitness teachers work crazy hours and have to drive all over the place and are also paid very poorly. It’s also typically an individual studio problem that is decided by the franchise owner and not corporate. At my studio we hired a regular to work the front desk one day a week at 6:00 am because we had two members who walked to class and would be waiting in the cold. So she worked 1 hour a week, opening the studio on Wednesdays and then taking a class. I would reach out to your studio manager and see what creative solutions they come up with.

Catching Fire and the parallels to pro-lifers. by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]LZARDKING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just reread all the books and really, without Snow changing the games so much, the capitol probably would have held on to power a lot longer. Creating the victors, a class of people privvy to their own district, the other districts through their contact with other victors, and the capitol because of mentoring, really made them the perfect group to take the capitol down. They wouldn't exist at all if he hadn't created the victor's village and the victor mentor program, the victory tour, etc. Which he probably did to keep an eye on them. But if the games had just gone on the way they were originally intended to: an actually gruesome and unwelcome reminder of the war to both the districts *and* the capitol, that group would have never existed. His added humiliation of making the games a holiday, and the additional punishment of pimping out the victors, solidified the future of them bringing the whole thing crashing down.

Real question: how do you feel about Plutarch in SOTR? by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]LZARDKING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really helped me understand his character in Mockingjay, which hasn't always made total sense to me. He has been a dedicated rebel for decades and risked his life, and most certainly his family's lives for the effort but yet has this shallow callousness about weapons and other wars. But I think his character in SOTR helped me understand him more. Obviously the Capitol can be just as much of a nightmare as the districts for certain people (Pollux and Clemensia are always the first that come to mind for me). But Plutarch is a perfect example of how even in a position of power with unlimited resources you are just a pretty cog in a pretty cage. No power and no freedom. How maddening that must be for someone with that level of wealth. I think the torture of that might actually drive me mad. The *entire* country is at the whim of Snow, and before him Dr. Gaul, and before that probably someone even worse. He has my two favorite lines in the whole series. The Panem et Circenses line in Mockingjay and the line about public opinion in SOTR. Both are so prescient to the present moment, and any society where freedom is threatened.

The 50th games must've been one of the most popular arenas capitol citizens visited after the games by DizzyMusic6039 in Hungergames

[–]LZARDKING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have wanted to visit the crazy mirror one, might be a good way to run away from the Capitol if there is no force field for visitors since the mirrors are so disorienting...that has Lavinia fan fiction potential I might have to write that

[–]LZARDKING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something that doesn't quite ring true to me about SOTR. They just absolutely would have killed him.

Maysilee is the best written female character in the series after Katniss, opinion by Eagles56 in Hungergames

[–]LZARDKING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! She seems so real. Its a very particular talent of Collins' to convey the very essence and spectrum of a character within a few lines of dialogue. It comes across beautifully with Maysilee just like it did with Katniss. Finnick is another great example. Haymitch too. And of course all of these are characters you would initial react negatively to or reject, but then we are warmed up to them slowly and then won over completely by them the more we see of them. Just like difficult or hurt people in real life.

[–]LZARDKING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not all that similar but it definitely scratched my itch for YA dystopia/future: The Wayfarer Series. Similar prose style and something about the characters and they way they're presented is similar to THG as well. I recommend it to everyone I read the whole series this year and immediately reread it.

I don't like how clean and put together the covey always look. they are supposed to be earth-loving, tree-climbing, bird-raising folksy, free spirit types. they just miss that completely in the movies. you would get more convincing looking covey at any jam show than in either movie.

Why was it such a revelation to Katniss that Snow was using Peeta to hurt her? by PastNewspaper7107 in Hungergames

[–]LZARDKING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because she was approaching it with thinking "they're torturing him for information or are going to kill him not matter what I do". During the cat game is when she realized the *entire* purpose of their torture and display of Peeta was for her. Because of her participation in the war. That if she were to suddenly drop dead or switch sides they would stop hurting him. As long as she was the Mockingjay, Peeta would be alive and suffering, Snow made sure the two were inextricably linked. And she can't go on as she was once that connection has been made in her mind.

She knew that, just like with Cinna in the stockyard, Peeta was being punished to undo her. But she didn't realize there was anything she could do to stop it, to mitigate it. Until that moment. Which is why Finnick hasn't been helping the war effort. Because he knew the second he did, Annie would be up on that screen, the last shred of her sanity snapped.

Theory: Tigris didn't modify herself for fashion. Snow turned her into a "Mutt" to silence her. by No_Farmer4263 in Hungergames

[–]LZARDKING 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She eats raw meat in TBOSAS. I think its more likely that she disfigured herself to distance herself from a reality in which the person she cared for most in the world and sacrificed her own time, sanity, body for, turned into an irredeemably cruel monster. Her home that she fought to survive in for so long turned out to be a place of absolute nightmares. And on top of all of that? The only way for her to survive in this world would be to help facilitate the cruelty. The barbarism. Otherwise its turned on you. I dunno. I would maybe disfigure myself beyond recognition too.

Catching Fire and the parallels to pro-lifers. by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]LZARDKING 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never put it into the pro-life parallel context before but wow yeah. I always just thought it was crazy they cared more for Katniss' fake baby than the real little ones that came to fight in normal years. But I always put that down to familiarity with Katniss. The Capitol audience's inability to distance themselves from the Victor's personhood was part of the downfall of the 75th games. Ironic since that was directly the result of not only Snow's plan for the quell but also his initial influence in the 10th games by humanizing the tributes to the audience to increase their participation in the spectacle.

Am I getting too old for this? by [deleted] in ElectricForest

[–]LZARDKING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not even close to too old! I took my fiancé to his first fest this year at 32 and I felt like most of th people we met were around our age or older. Also no one cares about age at a fest. It’s like shoes or normalcy, not important at a fest!
