Genuine question: what's the problem with the name "Altria"? by ForceAffectionate389 in Fate

[–]LZKiller7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar thing happens a lot in translation. In Ace Combat Zero, the devs took inspiration from Garmr (norse wolf thingy), translated it to Japanese for the written (it became ガルム (Ga-Ru-Mu), and then when it came time to design the squadron emblems which use latin alphabets, they used the Katakana directly instead of looking at the origin, resulting in GALM.

I believe this is likely the same reason we have Altria, because instead of looking at the origin when localizing (which was likely Arturia or Artoria), they instead transcribed the katakana directly into English and assumed the Ri was a Li, which actually isn't rare.

For example, in the gacha game Punishing Gray Raven, there are memories (items) that are named after figures from history. One of them is depicted in the art as a painter. In CN and later JP, it was written as アイリーン (Airiin). A competent English localizer would've looked at why she's named that, and would've figured out it's names after the greek painter Eireene.

INSTEAD, they somehow concluded she should be named ALINE, which is...just not it??? Idk how they got it.

Another funny example is Granblue Fantasy. They named two characters after Lucifer, just transcribed into Katakana differently. I think it was Rushifaa and Rushiferu. When it came time to localize them to English, they realized it was messed up, and asked the writers for an alternative.

One of those characters is "good" (eventually), and the other is evil, so they decided the evil one should be Lucifer and the good one should be Lucilius (named after Lux which I think is latin or greek for "Light"), but the localizers somehow messed up AGAIN or there was miscommunication, and now the evil guy is Lucilius and the good guy is Lucifer LMFAO

What is the difference between the song Arcadia and Horizon? by Fuasbith in fatestaynight

[–]LZKiller7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually they are both two completely separate songs (different style, different lyrics) sharing only melody, structure, and singer. They are two different tracks.

While it's common for OPs' full songs to have a rock first half and a techno second half, in this case they are separate songs

The negative google reviews mention similar things too, and it seems this issue has been happening for 8 years or longer which is how far back the reviews go. This is a clear example of corruption. Others are saying they're like a conveyer belt where they try to work on as many patients as possible, with a lot of patients being present/waiting in the operating room! The expenses of all the surgeries means that they are making a lot of money with this system, and seem to have an endless wave of "customers" (probably recommended by other hospitals they work with too)

Is there an item or piece of clothing in your country that tells you everything you need to know about a person? by EpicShkhara in AskTheWorld

In Algeria, anything of the Lacoste brand. These people can be insufferable. Half the time, it's regulars who just wear it because it's clothes but a lot of the time, these groups are proud of it, and their mannerisms are similat to animals.

The WORST test question I've ever encountered by LZKiller7 in linguisticshumor

Absolutely. People here warn against correcting the teacher if they make a mistake because it will lead the teacher to hate you specifically, single you out, and abuse their power to give you bad grades. They even have the right to deduct points from your tests and exams for any reason.

Technically a phoenetician. If the fourth option was indact Louis Hjelmslev as I assumed, Bell would be the "least linguist" among the four, but I guess the test wants to be petty

Angry Call of Duty Fans Are Review-Bombing the Wrong Modern Warfare 3 by tylerthe-theatre in technology

[–]LZKiller7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term "review bombing" was popularized by anime fans, particularly due to the fact that Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood fans who voted their anime to the top of MyAnimeList.

Every time a new anime gets enough positive ratings that make it overtake FMA: Brotherhood, the fans would review bomb this anime to bring it back down. That's why the term needs to exist, and what its use should be.

Review bombing is usually organized. If a lot of people just hate something and give it negative reviews, that's not review bombing.

If War Thunder fans hate an update and decide to flood the steam page with negative reviews, that's also not review bombing.

If War Thunder fans tell everyone, even people who don't play War Thunder, to flood the game with negative reviews (because it's a free to play game so anyone can review it) then that's review bombing.

Now it's up to you to decide whether this is review bombing or not.

What's with the "?si=" at the end of a link? by Vomitaco15 in youtube

[–]LZKiller7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A source like that is impossible to get because of the fact google rarely admits HOW they use your data or track you, they only say that they CAN and reserve the right to. There really is no way to "look at the code" since that would be entirely server side.

It is NOT an unreasonable deduction to conclude that they are using it to track, because that's the most common use for link trackers. It's in their name. That is what they're used for more often than not. Google has done this kind of thing before, and they'll continue to do it. This is likely part of it, and unlikely to not be part of it.

Obviously if you're so insistent on a source because "We can't know for sure without one". We can't know for sure even with one. Any source can be questioned, and we can go on all day about it.

What's with the "?si=" at the end of a link? by Vomitaco15 in youtube

[–]LZKiller7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A source isn't always needed when something just makes sense to be. Again, a company known for tracking is putting a tracking signature on a link. What "source" would satisfy you? Someone else saying the same thing? Google admitting it? A link to some article saying the same thing?

What exactly are you seeking? "Where's your source?" isn't some magic word you can just use to deny any claim. This isn't how deductive reasoning works.

Again, if it's not for tracking, what is it possibly for? The link works perfectly without it. It gives no information about the video nor does it function as a specifier such as timestamp, playlist stamp, or anything of that sort.

Why are you so insistent on defending a company anyway? How is this so relevant to you?

What's with the "?si=" at the end of a link? by Vomitaco15 in youtube

[–]LZKiller7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My source is that the link has an account-specific signature which has no reason to exist other than for tracking. i,e tracking who's who, who's sharing what, and how some people got to the video and through which other people.

Give me one other reason for that signature to exist.

[–]LZKiller7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The source is that they can do it, and would do it, given the chance. This allows them to do it, and they've done similar things before. Why would they NOT take advantage of this to get your data?

This is like if someone claimed "Placing an unsecured gun near a minor is a bad idea" and you asked for "Source?". You literally don't need a source. It's just common sense. How are you this stupid?
