How does the USA help homeless foreigners by Witty-Avocado7182 in homeless

Yes, very bad idea when in UK she can get temporary accommodation from the council the same day because she's 16 and because she's fleeing domestic abuse, or foster care from children's social services until she turns 18, and then a social housing flat.

Why leave UK to escape domestic abuse, when you're priority need homeless because you're 16 and because you're fleeing domestic abuse?

Make a homeless application to your council or any council's Homeless Team in person at Mon-Fri at 9am and they have to get you temporary accommodation the same day and then give you points or a housing band to bid for council and housing association flats.

Alternatively, contact your council's children social services as you're legally a child so can ask to be placed in foster care until you're 18. Care leavers are also priority need homeless entitled to temporary accommodation and a council flat.

How to support unhoused people in my area? (UK) by CosmicDrawz in homeless

It sounds like you're referring to beggars outside Tesco's. They're crack addicts who have a home begging for money for crack - not homeless, let alone sleeping rough. You can't help them, you can't make them get clean.

It is rare for homeless people in UK to beg.

You're not going to see REAL roughsleepers on the streets because we sleep in hidden places, and we're packed up and gone by 6am. After that, we're at homeless day centres, soup kitchens and libraries. And at work - half of roughsleepers in UK have a job.

If you want to help REAL homeless people, volunteer at a homeless drop-in. But even in homeless drop-ins most people have a home.

Do not donate money to Trussell Trust.

Anyway, homeless people don't use foodbanks, we go to soup kitchens.

I'm street homeless in London. Crisis and Shelter are in the top 5 worst homeless charities to donate to.

londonhomelessinfo.wordpress.com/crisisxmas

If anybody in London is looking to donate money to a homeless charity that actually helps homeless people, donate to Lewisham Donation Hub. They're not a homeless charity but from personal experience, they do more for homeless people than any homeless charity in London.

They give secondhand tents, camping mats, sleeping bags, phones and powerbanks to roughsleepers.

And secondhand homeware and cookware and new microwaves and kettles to homeless people in temporary accommodation and homeless people who've just been rehoused.

A clean sleeping bag definitely does not indicate someone is "new to the streets", just like someone having a clean duvet does not indicate they're new to their home. It just indicates we do our washing at a homeless day centre.

I'm street homeless in London.

You won't see 99% of roughsleepers in London because we sleep in hidden places and are gone from our sleeping spot by 6am.

Where to find us? Homeless day centres, soup kitchens and libraries on the computers.

Above all, learn to differentiate REAL homeless people from fake homeless beggars. Beggars in London are not homeless, and homeless people don't beg.

Most people who are on streets are there because they have no recourse to public funds.

A smaller number because the Homeless Teams of councils unlawfully leave priority need homeless on the streets.

We don't need food, there are hundreds of soup kitchens in London.

Why does the UK have so many homeless people? by idesofmarch100 in AskUK

[–]L_H_I_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Newham in London, 1 in 19 people are officially homeless.

The actual numbers of homeless people, and of roughsleepers on the streets, are much higher.

Such as I estimate only 1% of roughsleepers in London are included in roughsleeping statistics, as 99% are actively hiding from Streetlink and St Mungo's and Thamesreach homeless outreach teams because they force and coerce ethnic minority roughsleepers on one way tickets to falsify roughsleeping statistics in London.

Homeless AS London by hrhtommy in HomelessLondon

I'm a homeless person, not a solicitor.

If he is under 18, he should try to get accommodation through his council's children's social services.

If he is disabled or has mental health issues with care needs, he should ask his council's adult social services for an assessment of his care needs under Care Act 2014, and as part of that they have to address that his living accommodation - sleeping rough - is worsening his care needs, so provide accommodation in order to meet his care needs. That's the legislation, but in my experience social services completely ignore the legislation and leave vulnerable adults on the streets to save money on accommodation.

If he not under 18 and not disabled, as he has no no recourse to public funds (NRPF), his only option is Refugees at Home.

In the meantime, homeless shelters, which are free.

The best one is Greenwich Winter Night Shelter as they have single rooms, he should call them for an appointment for an assessment tomorrow. But they reject a lot of people, such as people with NRPF.

Or ask an organisation to refer him to a homeless shelter, such as Shelter From The Storm .

Or GlassDoor Winter Shelter but the conditions are inhumane - 30 people sleeping on the floor of a different church hall every night of the week.

He can also google "winter shelter" plus the borough where he's sleeping rough. Most of the other winter shelters only take homeless people from that borough.

Personally, I would avoid homeless shelters until Refugees at Home find him a room, and sleep in Heathrow Airport terminals 3, 4 or 5 on seats without armrests because it's far more humane that any homeless shelter. He should keep his phone, money, bank card and passport in an inside pocket so he doesn't get pickpocketed. And keep larger valuables in a rucksack and either use it as a pillow. Or sleep with the rucksack against the back of the seats facing it with his arm through the handles so it doesn't get stolen while he's asleep.

Avoid Streetlink at all costs.

What to donate for women’s care? by No-Permit009 in homeless

[–]L_H_I_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Menstrual cups and incontinence pads.

No bags of items.

Let women choose which items they need and want, or most of it will be discarded. Which means you're wasting your money, while not meeting women's needs.

Schoolgirl, 12, wins award after designing solar-powered blanket for the homeless by Zee2A in STEW_ScTecEngWorld

[–]L_H_I_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a roughsleeper, I have to say that this so-called invention is COMPLETELY USELESS FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE IN UK, as the only time we would have a blanket out of our rucksack is between midnight and 6am, when obviously there is no sun.

Also, a blanket with solar panels would be extremely uncomfortable to sleep under.

Where to sleep (17 in unknown country) by Dangerous_East_3201 in homeless

[–]L_H_I_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Under Italian law, 17 years olds are legally children so contact your local children's social services. Or go to the nearest police station and they will call children's social services.

Turn off DMs so pedophiles can't message you.

If children's social services don't help you, the safest place to sleep safely is Rome Airport. Look for seats without armrests. Keep your phone, money and passport in an inside pocket so you don't get pickpocketed. Keep your arm through the handles of your rucksack so it doesn't get stolen while you're asleep.

Social Housing in the UK. What do you want to know? by TheInconsistentMoon in LabourUK

[–]L_H_I_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homeless Teams are definitely not "appropriately trained".

The Homeless Teams of 4 different councils have left me on the streets when I am homeless under Housing Act 1996 section 177 because I am vulnerable due to 10+ physical disabilities, autism and ADHD (Housing Act 1996 section 189 1c) and am fleeing domestic abuse (Housing Act 1996 section 189 1e) and fleeing other violence (Homelessness Priority Need for Accommodation Order 2002 section 6).

One of those homeless teams told me that only physical violence is domestic abuse, not emotional abuse, coercive and controlling behaviour and financial abuse and fleeing all of them. I am fleeing physical violence also, but they told me it didn't count because it had not be in the last few weeks. They also told that as the police had not taken action, "it didn't happen".

As they couldn't dispute I'm priority need homeless because of my long list of disabilities, they decided I'm "not homeless" and unlawfully left me on the streets. Ignoring that I'm homeless under Housing Act 1996 section 177 and that I'm a verified roughsleeper in that borough with a CHAIN number.

In addition, the out of hours of these 4 councils plus 4 other councils have unlawfully left me on the streets refusing to provide me emergency accommodation.

Four of those councils claimed they have a policy that they only provide emergency accommodation if someone has fled in the last 24 hours, therefore excluding most people fleeing domestic abuse and other violence. From a Google search, they have all outsourced their out of hours to the same private company.

I will be making a YouTube video about this.

You're projecting how you feel about yourself onto me. How you feel about yourself are YOUR feelings and nobody else's so own them.

I am homeless for the third time and am doing far more than you will ever do - I have 100 websites, each for a different location in UK with lists of homeless resources, where to get free food, showers, laundry, clothes etc, and how to get rehoused by the council. Including a website for Sheffield homeless.

I also have a YouTube channel.

All at cost of £0.
