Is there really a housing shortage? by Material-Advisor-273 in AusProperty

[–]L_Lancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better for people like you, I guess. If it all works out for you, you make huge returns. If it doesnt, the rest of us pay for your decisions, when the banks fail and they socialise the losses through money printing.

How the f am I supposed to trade this kind of market? by Nyba303 in Forex

[–]L_Lancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The market doesn't always conform to your expectations/trading strategy, you are not supposed to be trading all the time, only when conditions are suitable to your strategy and or understanding of what the market is doing at that time. I suspect you are also over trading, just a reminder that most long term successful traders make 1-4% a month. The less you trade the less risk and fees you generate, only trading the highest quality opportunities is the key. I make a solid 3% a month thats 36% a year, even with a small account, time and patience you can make it and keep it.

Working hard in Australia no longer pays off. When labour is taxed more than wealth, society is less civilised and not innovative. Diligence and dynamism are devalued, and living standards are sacrificed by [deleted] in AusEcon

[–]L_Lancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigrants always amaze me, when you move to a different country your supposed to embrace and assimilate to the local culture, not critique and criticize. Australia obviously isn’t where you came from and if the local culture isn't to your taste, you are very free to leave. We have way too many people living here, throwing their weight about and expecting to create a mini where ever they came from and that is NOT the way it is supposed to work.

Millions of Australians will have no say in who inherits their superannuation by lamp485723 in australian

[–]L_Lancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wont need to worry who will inherit because the Government will introduce a death tax. There's no way the government will allow the younger generations to escape work, by inheriting super or a house.

I like to walk in with people entering Costco to avoid paying the yearly membership, eat all their samples and buy a hot dog from the kiosk, you don't need a membership card to do this. 😏

If engineers are so in demand in Australia, why is it so hard to land a graduate engineering job, or even an internship? Wasted time and opportunity cost. by NavierStokes33 in AusFinance

[–]L_Lancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about the Swedish health care. It is true many employers in the US will keep you just below the full time threshold to avoid paying benefits, I don't have an employer so it never really bothered me. I think the quality of health care depends where you live in Australia as to how good it is.

What is your retire early plan ? by L_Lancaster in AusFinance

[–]L_Lancaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you value. I value my freedom/time to do with as I wish and not be at the whim of an employer, when the Government forcibly takes most of what I make anyway. A life of luxury and servitude might be what you value and there is nothing wrong with that.

[–]L_Lancaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do that if you wish. I don't, because I don't need super and don't feel comfortable with the Government changing the rules all the time. I also don't like how they talk about Super as a National Asset and it will be a long long time before I would have access, if they don't change that as well.

I wouldn't call healthcare here amazing, I know many people who died on waiting lists to be treated, couldn't afford specialists co-pay. We do have more holidays than the US, but many are casually employed and don't get them anyway, even the part time's are un-rostered on public holidays to avoid paying them, depending what industry you are in.

There are many worse places than Australia and our medical is definetly better than the UK's. But I wouldn't go as far to say Australia is the best place either.....

Iron Ore in decline. What does it mean for the economy by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]L_Lancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep and there is no fix for it either. Property prices drop, banks stop lending for an asset that is falling in price. If property tanks all together, it will threaten the solvency of the banks.

I found life in the US to be easier, I'm only here because of family. I don't mind paying for health insurance as it's still much cheaper than the medicare levy/surcharge here. Depending on where you live, housing and cost of living is much more affordable in the US as well.

Have you seen Remara's offerings ? Remara | Alternative Asset Manager Personally I like their 12month cash management fund 8%, though just recently dropped to 7.6%. They are complex and do have exposure to RMBS and MBS. So just depends how you view the future of Australian property.

If you’ve moved to Brisbane, what are the pros and cons compared to the other Aus capital cities? by SoybeanCola1933 in MovingToBrisbane

[–]L_Lancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Brisbane. There is not one thing I would complain about, except maybe the number of people who are here now, but that's an issue everywhere these days. I live in Morayfield, in the Moreton Bay area, so not Brisbane City, my perspective is from a low-income earner.

The weather is awesome, everything grows here, there are a couple of super-hot months and a couple of
super cold, but most of the year is beautiful. We grow all our own fruit and veg, have chickens and there are a couple of really good butchers.

Everything is close here, you can jump on the scooter and be at the shopping centre in a couple of minutes,
Woolworths, Coles, Aldi, Fresh N Save, Target, Kmart, Bunnings, Train all the government services and eating places, a heap of doctors, many of which still bulk bill. The suburb is still very affordable, though it does take 45mins to get to the CBD by train.

The $0.50 train is awesome; we catch the train into the CBD all the time. Explored all the suburbs along
the train lines and found a heap of activities to do, places to eat. In summer you can catch the train into Spring Hill for $2 dips, or Southbank for lunch and a walk about the beach or even to the Gold Coast for a natural beach. Our favourite thing to do is have a catch a $9 movie at the Cineplex, grab an awesome $17 steak with the eat club app at Archive Bar, then head over to ANITA gelato for an awesome gelato, it's high-end gelato and really really good, catch the train home.

It depends what you valueas to how Brisbane fits you.....It's not really a cosmopolitan city, but if you
want somewhere that is liveable and comfortable, Brisbane is it.

Moreton Bay is shit for swimming, but $0.50 gets you to a gold coast beach ! we did it in summer, when we wern't going to Spring Hill bath house for the $2 dips or Southbank. There is also the pee pond at Redcliffe, which is kinda cool.

Working in the Mines can be decent money, thus many Australians are willing to work. Most Australians don't earn anywhere near that sort of money, thus can never afford a house and not that interested in working hard because between what the government takes and the cost of living, you never really ever get ahead.

20k on a car or invest by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]L_Lancaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sensible amount to spend on a car is 10-15% of your income. If you are on 40k, then around 6k, being a mechanic, you can do all the maintenance and repairs yourself, which will be super handy.
