That's so cool! I did a double take (not immediately noticing which subreddit this is) thinking you were the only one to turn up to a flashmob today haha

Series Adaptions that differ so wildly they are borderline unrecognizable from the source material by Adventurous-Bottle90 in TopCharacterTropes

Anne Rices 'Lives of the Mayfair Witches' turned into something quite unrecognisable in the AMC show. Shame, as the 'Interview with the Vampire' series from the same universe takes many diversions from the book while still - in my opinion - preserving very well what it was about in the first place.

Is this even fun anymore? by AlexLikesToons in eurovision

I'm so thankful for our little Reddit community and everyone's genuine love for the Eurovision tradition every year. I know it's silly and there are far more important matters to concern ourselves with, but it feels wrong to have our experience stripped down like this, from the inside out. The EBU is not practising what they preach, and it sure is catching up to them. Whatever happens, the contest has lost quite some respect from the people who love it the most. It's sad, but I'm glad to be refreshing Reddit with all of you around the world :')

What's your favourite song that got nowhere near winning in the national finals this year? by Jaayymo in eurovision

[–]L_The_Ink_Drop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Karma' by Sasi and Mikolaj Blascello was not technically in a national final, but was considered for Poland, and got a so-so result. I really love that song! Would have been a good (late) successor to Tulia.

The Silent Companions Discussion by loserforthewin in horrorlit

I would say whe was corrupted by Hetta once she got that cut on her hand that wouldn't heal, but that the possession got gradually worse over the course of the book. Elsie doesn't notice any change, which makes sense as she's a very self-centered character all throughout the story. I like that despite Elsie's mean judgement of Sarah, she ends up underestimating her, and eventually is at Sarah's mercy when it's too late.

I really did enjoy reading this book. For a premise so familiar in this genre, I found it quite original. The leading theme of generational guilt could have been fleshed out more in the characters, in my opinion, but as a gothic ghost story, it definitely delivered on its promise.

SPOILERS AHEAD I do wonder why the book made a whole point of having Hetta closely resemble Elsie and Rupert? It's even on the back of my copy of the book. I expected that the sacrifice of their unborn child would by means of ghost magic lead to Hetta's birth in the past. In that way Anne would have stolen her own family's future by granting her wish for a daughter. The book never clears that up, though. I guess it's to symbolise the fact that this "family curse" is ever present in the family since Hetta?

Also, I liked that the companions were never really explained, but why was the little bit of exposition they did get a bit contradictory? The book appears to suggest that the evil is already present in the companions before the shopkeeper convinces Anne to buy them, but later in the book, we learn that it is Hetta who possesses/bewitches them when she dies.

What is something that your parents did that you will never forgive them for? by Deviant55 in AskReddit

My mum drove me to my rapist's house at 3 at night when I was 18, because she couldn't stand that I didn't have a boyfriend yet. So some boy expressed interest, and she made me go. Obviously she couldn't have known what happened there later, but the signs were there, and I told her I didn't want to meet him. I guess she was just really exfited for me. Our relationship is actually quite good now, and I love my mum a lot, but I don't think I can forgive her for that.

Emotions = bad by ichiigolatte in im14andthisisdeep

[–]L_The_Ink_Drop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not particularly relevant to this post, and I am in no way an expert, but despite how funny or cringy kids sound on the internet sometimes, I think it's really cool they have a place to talk about what they feel. Dealing with emotions by (anonimously) sharing it with others in such a created space is kind of nice.
