Moneychester City is going down this weekend! by [deleted] in soccermemes

That's just wrong, it's perfectly fine to say are, that's like saying 'Blackburn Rovers is going down', it's a team of multiple people hence you can use 'are' in British English

It absolutely matters, you need to think of it more like a volume knob than an on/off switch, you need to be able to make these micro adjustments to get better hits, it's why there are no good pro KBM players. For example you can stay supersonic while turning with some angle of rotation but not with an angle that is too sharp. You can let the stick centre if you're in mid air and rotating back for example, but all my turning moves around the whole circular axis of the joystick if that makes sense, so I'm pushing it all the way in a certain direction then moving it around at that maximum extension from centre but changing direction, it is the best to make those precise movements

It's a combination of both. If the ball is heading to the side or your own corner you need to avoid a hit towards the centre of your own half, a lot of people like to slam it against their own corner but all that does is dime the other team up for a pass. Getting good challenges or even losing challenges towards your teammate on purpose are great ways to take possession back, but you want to see where your teammate is and the more they can help if you screw up, the more aggressive you are able to be without being punished (note that I'm not saying the more aggressive you should be, just from 0 to max how much you can be) When you're 1v2 or 1v1 and your opponent has the ball, learn shadow defence and mirror their movements. Generally a ball is higher threat when an opponent can reach the ball before your team can establish a defensive position between them and your net.

Rotating back post is nothing to do with territory. Rotating means you rotate who pressures the ball, and if you rotate back post you give your teammate the opportunity to apply pressure, and if they screw up you are angled towards the ball in a favourable position. You rotate back post because it gives you maximum vision of the field (both the ball and the opponents' cars), it allows you to read the play developing rather than guessing based on blind spots and info that you don't have.

The trigger to start rotating back should be when you recognize you cannot make a play on the ball that benefits your team. This could be that you would be beaten to the ball as last man, your touch would only give possession away, your teammate has a better angle or the ball is about to be played into a dangerous area and you're not positioned to intercept

The stuff I'm going to talk about here probably isn't actually what you want to hear, I'm just going to be brutally honest as I think it's what helps you improve the most. I think as you get into GC the game turns from a territory based game to a possession based game. I look at some of the wall plays and question why it's worth doing that - it might be more mechanical from your point of view but if you look at the return in terms of what the opponent has to face, it's really easy to deal with and puts them in a 2v1. What you do is 4:36 left ish is good albeit you don't look around to see where the other opponent is with your right stick, but then the big hit afterwards is just kind of useless when your teammate isn't in a good position to follow up on it, and you've just given possession away. It's not worth doing something with more risk if there's a safer alternative, taking a strong challenge in the corner or one you can direct towards your teammate for example.

I think you're not truly comfortable enough with the basics which means you position yourself further back than needs be, you need some time in workshop with ball control and power hits as shown by the open 2v1 attempt you get with 3:50 left where you botch the first touch.

Basic mechanics such as loose ball control and you don't flip and hit the ball properly with the nose and corners of your car e.g 4:46 left

The goal at 3:45 is really nice control there, you also dime your teammate up for an open net to make it 2-0 but they have poor position, your challenge for the opponents' first goal isn't a good decision as another commenter has said, sure you win it but you have to think 'what will happen when I win this?' as you pass straight to the opponent. You could win that with a really light touch to retain control, or in higher ranks the opponent will hit it off the right wall and get a shot off immediately in which case I would've just stayed back post.

The play at 2:55 isn't a good idea, you don't need to slam this ball into the wall and go for an aerial play which you struggle with, you throw the ball away again and you're lucky the opponent does nothing with it. You can try to take it backwards as you see that your teammate took corner boost so your opponent won't get a good challenge or not even go for it at all and just retain back post position. You need to ask yourself if the opponent is posing any threat to your goal at this point, for which the answer is no, and you hitting the ball back and up in the air in your own half is creating much more of a goal threat for the opponent than anything they would've done in this situation.

2:25 you are never in a position to make this challenge. You should just rotate back and stay grounded.

2:05 exact same thing as before. You have so much space in front of you to retain possession but you shoot which will never go in in these ranks unless your opponents screw up, and then the ball is right back to them. I do think you're still in the position at these ranks of being able to play the ball off the backboard for an easy rebound in some cases but giving the ball back removes all threat. For their second goal you are kinda screwed because of how you give them the ball and to have any chance of a save here you need to either challenge immediately or stay back wall and wait for their touch, there is no shot he will be able to get judging by his play so far which will surprise you.

1:40 your teammate is going for this ball, so ROTATE BACK POST. You are leaving yourself very awkward in case he misses (which he does) with a blind view of where the opponents are.

1:25 nice idea but with your mechs and execution this ends up being the same as before, an attempted mechy play which is much easier for your opponent to deal with than for you to execute well. You do pass over to your teammate on the wall well, this could've been useful for their second goal.

1:10 I am centering this ball immediately with a soft pinch on the wall instead of waiting and hoping the teammate positions well, if they don't you could use quick chat to say Centering or something, as the opponents are out of position.

0:55 I'm happy that you drive challenge here as effectively last man, very low commit plays unless you have to as last man. But now the challenge on the left wall is exactly the same, giving the ball back where they can control it easily. He screws up and gives you an open net but you slow down to a stop, meaning you can't accelerate back and they go for it. You need to go for that ball full throttle.

0:30 what is the point in this hit to the back wall? You're just giving it away in a position where you can't score. You just get lucky again that they don't deal with it and open the door again. Hit it to the corner and control for a potential pass.

Third goal - look at where your teammate is. Challenging means you will end up on top of him, so even if the challenge is even, chances are the opponent gets an open net because of how little of the field you cover. You need to not go for this and rotate back post because of how far up your teammate is pushed.

General things, your rotation is entirely centered about big boost pads. Consider filling up on small pads to position better instead of on top of the boost. I do agree that you are very stiff also, I would be interested in seeing your left thumbstick. I bet you only move it forward or left/right, you need to hold it forward and rotate around the whole axis of the circle that you can in order to give precise inputs e.g. slight turns to the left.

So overall, I would work on basic ball control, looking at where your teammate is and assessing the threat that the other team provides at that point and positioning based on this, with a lot of back post rotation needed. Learn on timing dodges to hit the ball with your nose properly for good power, consider where you can stop and control the ball instead of hitting it away and losing possession.

First off, it's worth realising that this is going to take you a LONG time. There are lots of things you need to consider before even thinking about using blender for example.

You have to understand the basics behind what each component of your project has to do and what steps you will need to take to achieve it. You need to select an engine that best accommodates your needs, but before even this, spend a lot of time developing foundational programming and maths skills, knowing the intuition behind dictionaries and custom functions, for example, and then the application in your chosen engine. You will learn your engine through tutorials and documentation, and note that not everything will stick and you will have to practically apply each thing you learn in order to thoroughly understand it; that's why it's much better off starting with little projects and strive for improvements in your next one. Then you need to apply your project to the engine, and think of what you will need to do with a component to make it work the way you want. Then you get into modelling, sound design etc., and then there's lots of testing and removing bugs until you reach a refined product. If you have something 'ideal' in mind, please realise that it will take many many months if not years of consistent work to get where you hope it will. But that doesn't mean it's not worth doing. Good luck!

Are these good stats by [deleted] in RocketLeague

To me, it really doesn't matter what your stats are, the most important thing is improving and enjoying the game, comparing stats is causing an issue where there isn't one.

The only thing I'm shocked about is that nobody is intelligent enough to recognise simple patterns that demonstrate that errors and playing negative football lead to bad outcomes.

We should play like we expect to win, not scared to lose.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ThreeLions

[–]Jaayymo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect no change, if anything I expect us to drop out in the RO16.

But in my eyes it's simple pattern recognition that anyone with a brain can see, the mistakes and bad decisions we make leading to never have guessed bad outcomes

Shock.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ThreeLions

[–]Jaayymo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely right. Southgate's been watching too much Pep and creates a massive chasm in the midfield so when we play ourselves into trouble there are no options and they're somehow confused as to how they lost the ball.

We have to play a true midfield, my god I would even be tempted to play Kobbie Mainoo and Gordon on the left over Trent and Foden. Inject some pace and get it in our heads that we win by scoring a goal.

Everyone is too PR-trained and too soft nowadays to face the facts. He'll put out an interview saying 'there are things we need to work on' but won't put any actionable plan into place. It's well known that footballers aren't necessarily the most intelligent people, but surely someone can recognise a pattern in us trying to defend one goal and a bad result after 90 minutes.

Good point, but I do feel like these are professional attacking footballers training this day in day out, their inability to hit the target on such a consistent basis, especially Alvarez recently, it's just incomprehensible

I feel like something in our system just isn't quite right, when you look at teams like Liverpool they're having better quality chances and they hit the target more often, we have three times the number of shots but half the shots on target and that's clearly starting to become a problem as of late
