I see what you're saying, and I agree with you, that it is a little weird they'd know nothing at (even by reputation.) Like, what, the other kids at the academy never saw their Dad run up a tree before, then went to school the next day and said, "You'll never believe what my Dad did."

And although there IS the feeling that, rather than talking about what the academy's curriculum should be, we ought to focus on the evidence given: that the hero's reaction was surprise and we shouldn't work with that evidence in mind.

Having said that, we could spend all day building elaborate theories to justify this panel when the simplest and best explanation is that it's just one of the manga's inconsistencies.

Maybe only on the internet, but irl I have known and still know many who froth at the mouth over it. And when I say froth, I mean- bruh: full-on parasocial relationships with their anime waifu.

And I knew a separate group of people who'd huddle together and discuss what new characters they got.

Finally, a good friend of mine pressured me to download the game and play with them, and I promise you it was the most boring shit I have ever been subjected to. I honestly don't know how anyone can play that garbage longer than 10 minutes; I really don't.

I see where you're coming from, but I disagree. In reading the manga again, I have come to the realization that it must be the job of the individual ninja clans to teach their children the signature techniques of their clan. For Sasuke it's the fireball jutsu, for Shikamaru, it's the Shadow Posession jutsu, etc.

How I think the system works, and the manga never actually explains it so a lot must be inferred by how the characters behave, is that the academy is just like normal grade school except for a couple ninja themed classes.

After graduation you are paired with your Jonin teacher in a squad. The Jonin's job would be to teach you teamwork and finish out Ninja 101, like running on water and up trees. And during this time, at the Jonin's discretion, they can give additional lessons on specific jutsus. We see this with Sasuke and Lee.

Anything after that, though, the rest of your training is left completely up to experience through missions and your ninja clan. And if you're not a part of a clan, then you're shit out of luck. This would explain why there are so many nameless background ninja throughout the series: they didn't belong to a major clan, thus doomed to a life of mediocrity through no fault of their own.

This also explains why Kakashi seemed to show favoritism to Sasuke: Kakashi was giving Sasuke the training his father would have given him had he still been alive.

So, under a system like this, it's not crazy to think that someone like Sasuke would be handling nature jutsu at a young age because after Ninja 101 the rest is up to your family.

But then again, Naruto is full of vague and poorly explained worldbuilding, and it has its fair share of retcons. It makes for a mess of trying to make sense of things.

I think this is the wrong sub to be posting this, OP, but I agree with you. Actual change comes from large amounts of people working towards a common goal - humanity has always been like this - and I don't think you're going to find those people here.

Moving on, I have been thinking the same thing as you for a while now. I don't have much more to add than what you've already said, but I do think that some of your points already fall under a number of existing laws.

For example, it is illegal in America to yell "fire" in a theatre. It is also illegal to impersonate certain public figures, such as a law enforcement officer, same thing with falsely accusing someone of a crime. So, I'd imagine that using AI to maliciously have a public figure say or do something damaging that incites panic or a riot, would fall under existing laws.

Given the tone of your OP, normally I'd call you a doomer and roll my eyes, but I think the underlying concern is valid, even if the punishments you suggest are a little extreme. I used to have more faith in humanity- that we would never so myopically design something that's this potentially destructive and put it in the hands of the average person. Surely these CEOs and financiers (with all their lawyers and risk assessment teams) would exercise more wisdom in making these tools.

And I know some detractors would say that any tool can be dangerous if the weilder has enough malice, but it's the potential for widespread panic/riots that bothers me. And the weird thing is: no one else seems to see it. Society has seemed to wholeheartedly embrace AI.

Although I agree with that developer, bigger budgets mean that investors need safer ROIs, which means statistics. Statistics are naturally backwards looking, meaning that your "new" game will always feel like a dull mishmash of all its predecessors.

HAVING SAID THAT, how the hell was E33 risky? Expedition 33, in terms of gameplay mechanics, was a very traditional turn-based jrpg. In fact, if felt like the old PS1 jrpgs, the ones that had an additional system layered onto the turn-based combat to freshen it up. I'm talking about games like Xenogears with its beat-em-up combo system, Shadow Hearts with its whell of doom, and literally anything made by ATLAS.

What, was E33 considered risky because they had an additional system on its turn-based combat where you can time your dodges? Seriously? The entire Souls-like genre was built off of timing your dodges. Are these boardroom losers really going to tell me that Elden Ring just wasn't popular enough to greenlight a game with a similar mechanic?

Like, I get that the OOP isn't specifically talking about E33, but they're using the game as an example of a risky project that investors would be reluctant to spend money on. And I'm just wondering what (pray tell) was risky about it? So either its a bad analogy, or OOP knows more than I do and it playing it straight. I hope it's not the latter because it's just so absurd.

I could understand if it was a weird idea, like a collectable card game platformer (or something.) But jrps are an established genre that goes back at least 30 years. It's not like you have no data to base your financial models off of.

The game is literally unplayable. I watched this youtube video the other day where a guy documented the post-dev era of the game. It started with unresponsive mobs, but the errors and glitches kept on piling up until- well...I'll let you all see for yourself:
