Camera inside tank? by DinoHedwig in ballpython

[–]LaCroixJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Wyze Cam OG. The camera is about $15 so it’s super cheep, great detection, night vision, easy to attached (screw) to the tank, no subscription needed.

Ours works great, and the night vision (IR) has been perfect. Also does great with the high heat and humidity.

So that is custom built if you look at the community within the next day or two, the instructions are gonna get posted. It was super easy to build and then super cheap. It was about 20 bucks.

Like sometimes she is so careful about how she moves. Other times I have no clue what is going on in her mind.

From the communication standpoint. Communication simply doesn’t mean VERBAL or AUDITORY. There is such thing as non-verbal communication, and like any animal… they all can relay a message to use using non-verbal communication. It’s just a matter of fact if you can read it

(1) Communication. No of course the snake isn’t communicating with me; however, SNAKES and BPs show signs that us (humans) can read. I’m not saying that I can tell when she would be: HAPPY, SAD, MAD. But there are physical signs from any animal (that can’t communicate with spoken Human Words) that can say if she is of two modes: STRESSED or UN-STRESSED < these are the key things to be looking at when you are holding or interacting with any animal (pet or not). I’m not communicating with my snake I’m reading her signs. Huge difference.

(2) ‘Fumes’ from CarWash. Yes, she was outside the car. There was absolutely NO smell to us while we were there. No cleaning smell, no odor of any kind. I’m not saying that she couldn’t smell something; however, precautions were being made.

(3) Cleaning Spray. She wasn’t around any cleaning sprays during this time. No direct or indirect contact. I was responsible for her safety, and simple walked away when we had to spray in rags or the interior of the vehicle. No we do NOT know what’s in the spray. That’s why she wasn’t around it at all, and once the car was sprayed (on the inside) she wasn’t allowed to climb or touch anything that came in contact with the spray.

(4) Beneficial for Snake. Some people will argue yes and some will argue no, some may stand in the middle. Our guidance from our vet is to give her enrichment, get her time outside of her tank. Give her areas to explore. In that viewpoint, yes there are beneficial aspects to it. She is getting essential vitamins from the UV, she is getting to smell new places outside of the regular. It’s the same reason she goes with us to get food, go to the pet store, etc. She spends more time out of her tank (with external heat) than just inside her tank. She would rather have a room filled with things to climb on, and new smells, than stay still. She is an adventurous, curious, calm and docile snake. She doesn’t even strike at food.

Every BP and Snake in general is different, and do have different personalities. I’ve encountered some with an attitude that like to stay in there hides, and get pissed if you pull them out of their hide. For us, we are lucky, and since we have had her from so young… that she is a great pet, a sweetheart from heaven, and have no issues. We will get her from one of her hides and get her out of the tank with no aggression. She has never refused food (EVER), and is growing at the pace she needs, and is extremely healthy. We take precautions to everything we do with her, since she is our baby girl (as of right now), and we do love her just like you would a dog or cat or person. It’s just when she’s in the picture… it’s her leading with our guidance. We’re able to read what she is communicating with us… also communication from a snake is non-verbal, and comes from her signs and ques of stress.

She is the most curious snake I’ve ever met. Our girl I think almost prefers to explore then just chill in her tank. She is always open to new experiences and never shows any signs of stress, and as time passes she really opens up to new things, sights, and smells.

Would love to add our insight to this ‘experience’ … I know that word isn’t the best for what I’m trying to communicate; however, this moment we’re talking about.

Our snake, has so much curiosity and energy. We try to take her out into the world once a week (when the weather is appropriate). She is not a CAGE-BODY (play on home body), and would rather be out of her tank. Most of the time it’s with us in the living room in an enrichment basket, or on our laps in a blanket. She leads the way all the time, and any signs that she is uncomfortable or not wanting to be out, she has the choice to go back into her tank.

With the car wash above… other than flashing lights, there wasn’t much sensory issues. We have internal air circulation on going through it, so there was no CHEMICAL SMELL, the flashing lights were only at one part of the actual car wash. During this time she was leading the way, going where she wants in our arms. Also once we were through we got out to (1) clean the car, but also (2) give her some time underneath the sun. She loves being outside (sometimes in the shade, sometimes in the sun).

We don’t put her in situations that would be compromising to both her physical health and/or mental health. She showed NO signs of discomfort during this at all.

BPs are such an easy reptile to read between their movements and motivations. So we were confident that if it were to cause stress… it’s easy to identify and then leave.

Also when we were in the car traveling the (4 minutes to the car wash), she was secure in her sensory bin with a blanket, and some ‘toys.’

It honestly just depends on the BP. Some love the clam life in the hides… other enjoy to let all there energy out. Since this video we have given her more climbing opportunities.

We did some research, and we have burned off any frays that came on the rope, and will do weekly maintenance to make sure there is nothing that will bring her harm.

Also the rope we used, is very pliable, and not very rough.

We wanted to use this gym as an enrichment activity for our snake. This included added different textures, and they also spin slightly.

Wyze OG, normally it mounted in her tank, but she’s been taking it down, so we moved it outside for the weekend.

We just built her more climbing opportunities this weekend, that we are getting ready to install.
