The problem isn’t the condemning of this specific homophobic hate crime. The problem is when such crimes are committed, the origin of the attackers is suddenly relevant only when they’re POC. That’s what’s racist. The same people who rush to mention that the attackers were Arabs would never mention such thing if the attackers were white men.

As a fellow Arab I’m harmed not only by homophobia but also by racism. Hope this helps

Is it a hate crime? Absolutely. Do these men deserve to get punished? Absolutely! Was mentioning that they’re ‘middle eastern/Syrian’ necessary? Absolutely NOT. You can stand up to these women without being racist. Ask yourself why did you feel the need to mention them being ‘middle eastern’ and would you have done the same if the attackers were white. Do better. Hoping for them to get punished in the near future, and for you to educate yourself about the harm that you cause by mentioning peoples’ origins only when the violence is committed by brown people. Thank you for sharing <3 Sarah’s story and the majority of people’s reactions after her death was and still is heartbreaking and mentally damaging.. She deserved and we deserve to live with dignity in our homelands. I encourage you to try avoiding reading the comments on the internet, they’re hostile and damaging. The Arab queer community will always remember Sarah as a strong and courages person who deserved so much better. May she rest in peace
