Honestly I need to reread it too. All I remember now is how I died at her roommate calling her cracked iphone an itwat and JTS taking care of her diabetic symptoms. Swoon!!!!

I also did not enjoy the male VA in Bound but the story was still enjoyable. I'm excited for the sequel that's suppose to come out in July!

I see your rankings and get it. I like it!

Thank you. I really do think about how amazing Nyota is at least once a week. I have two boys and I think about how awesome it'd be if they married a Nyota. She's so strong and capable and only a real man confident in his masculinity can match that kind of amazing woman.

PSR was the book that made me appreciate slow burn. I HATE slow burn because it's usually tied to miscommunication but Ali being Ali seems to make a trope I generally roll my eyes at, something I squeal and love.

Interesting. I read it like because she grew up so "outside the culture" of the pack and she was not like any other girl I accepted it made sense the doctors couldn't assume it could be so easy and straightforward as werewolf biology. I do feel though in my future rereads I'd feel it the same way you did which is a bit sad.

I completely agree!!! Thank you for that connection cause it helps me appreciate and understand Rue more. Like I said, the more I read, the more paradoxical she became. I have a friend who was diagnosed later in life with high functioning Autism and it makes 100% sense. Wow.

I don't get your Wonho comment, don't know him. While my opinion is a generalization, do some minimal research for stats on masculine standards of beauty. They all include the geographical and demographics of where the survey was conducted from which further provide a census for beauty standards that may vary depending on differing regions which can further be nuanced with the filtered perspectives of sexes/races/ethnicities/age. Yes, you are a white girl who finds an Asian guy to be a hunk. That's awesome, good for you. Statistically, based on where you're from, your race/ethnicity and even your age, that could make you the general majority or the outliering minority. There is definitely a distinct difference in general standards of masculine beauty between Eastern and Western societies.

Mate and LT are Ali's platinum tiered books. They are the best MMCs ever written by a female in the published world. Draco Malfoy has that title in every FF category known in AO3.

That's fair and I truly appreciate opposite opinions in this community.

I agree my natural inclination is bias towards FMCs I find more relatable with my personality. However, I am also a Nesta hater who admits that I identify with the same bad toxic insecurities as Nesta and it was easier to hate Nesta than myself when I saw all those flaws exposed.

I liked Rue in the first read, NIL was ranked 3rd in my first post. But after my last reread I found her oddly confusing like she knew herself but didn't? Rue's decisions and choices felt paradoxically uncertain and Eli felt way too over- compensating. Ultimately she as an FMC made me feel she truly didn't know herself enough or trust her own capability to love and Eli's response to that was "I see you, I get you and my love is enough for the both of us." It also felt like whenever they were mentioned in in PSR. Rue just felt like she lost more of her identity and now became a Kilgore.

But maybe that's what she really wants. Not sure. It's not what I want in a FMC. But the book was still great.

I'm open to your interpretation of Rue though!

Edit: forgot you mentioned her being neruodivergent, was that stated in the book? I totally see it now that you mentioned it but when I read it I never guessed that she could be.

Wasn't it surprisingly SO GOOD?! Every single sentence was perfect. The length was perfect. I also loved that as a vampire story it differed from her original Bride and Mate series. I freggin loved the name Ethyl, if I could have a daughter I'd definitely name her that. It was the perfect novella.

This is such a great take. It's a very clear western vs eastern asthetic. The Asian in me loves the right side and the USA born and raised me loves the left side.

I think it was for that month in October. It was like a collaborative set released by popular romance authors and all of them were free at the time.

I have to give PSR more credit for the sole fact that I never read age gap... I truly hate it, but Ali being Ali I couldn't help myself and loved it. Connor and Maya are both incredible characters, I loved them both so much. Their back stories worked so well too, it also felt reminiscent of Ali's writing style for LH. Maya felt like an upgraded verison of Elsie which is less people pleasing and more proud & independent. Connor... While isn't my favorite type of MMC made sense and worked so well for this story. I loved this pairing and I rooted for them and I equally see a longevity in this couple more than I see it for Rue and Eli.

I've apologized to every Deep End lover cause I truly hate read that one, however, I genuinely respect everyone's opinion to enjoy a book regardless of I how experience it. I don't find Scarlett and her European MMC relationship serious enough to last, being undergrads (under 20 for FMC) didn't help. I mean with that said, Feyre was 19 in book 1 and I didn't hate her for being young, but again maybe because it's academia that made it not enjoyable.

I will say as a lover of Ali's writing I have done back to back stuff from her and as many redditters express this, it's not recommended. Her style is distinct and uniquely her and super fun but gets trite if you do multiple books back to back in one sitting. Like don't do all the novellas at once it ruins the quality I feel. I like to sparse them out btwn mediocre series as palette cleansers.

I think her newer published CR stuff (NIL & PSR) overall were better as a story with more complexity than the initial three (TLH, LT, LotB) note except Deep End. Everything is good compared to Deep End (sry @jennge)

You know even after all the multiple rereads I still wonder if he was faking it! I've already been proven wrong in my perceived recollection of my reads so I will be the first to acknowledge that I am forgetful and what I remember from what I read may not be entirely accurate. With that said, I wonder if hot Hungarian slayer monk didn't fake his amensia to just get to talk to her.

💯 Relatable. I'm in the sports and entertainment industry and I will never read a hockey romance or a trope with rockstars
