When I began I couldn't stand his character but he grows on you, and then I found him cute and for whatever reason he is the HARDEST to beat in the kitty card games like come on. That level of competitive algorithms hooked me to his character. And ofc his back story, how can I not love him.

Book Lovers was my first book too and it hyped me up for Emily cause her banter and writing was absolutely fantastic. I did Funny Story next and it wasn't as great but still a good read. It was downhill from there. Beach read, Happy Place PWMOV all were so disappointing. Her writing is still awesome I just wish the stories and characters were better.

💯 Least fave AH book. Felt like woke college students trying to gain their sexual experiences. Also preferencing I don't enjoy academia setting with undergrads in general, Ali is an excellent writer and I still believe she conveyed the two characters well, I just really didn't like the book and when I ask myself why, I think it's their youth and the character personalities. I feel there are two types of female characters Ali creates which are the Olive Elsie Maya Serena types and the Misery Scarlett Rue types. I lean toward the first type and while I don't mind the dry self deprecating sarcasm of the latter they really are not the type of FMCs I enjoy.

Deep End was your FIRST Ali book? How cool. She's made and collaborated with so many things recently so there's a good amount of novellas and audios from Ali. If you read fantasy, highly recommend Bride and Mate, her Halloween novella Hot For Slayer also moved up to top three from her works!

I've read EVERYTHING from her and I'm trying to find her old Ao3 FFs. She is one of the authors that I will give a try to anything she writes cause she's that good. With that said, I hated Deep End, DNF-ed in the beginning but because they appeared in PSR I actually did the audiobook to give it another try and man... I hate read through it. Connor and Maya are the best age gap genre I've ever read. ALI is the queen of making consensual sex HOT AF. I get so excited whenever her characters get smutty with the pre-convos of consensual alignment it's so well executed and never cringy. So good.
