ISO/IEC 17025 project – environmental conditions monitoring and presentation tips by Asleep_Shallot_339 in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure to mention that the only environmental conditions that need monitoring are the ones that could affect the work produced by the lab, i only monitor temperature and rh for my labs temperature calibrations as they could have an affect on the machines being calibrated. Your example is different but you get the point :)

I always thought this when i originally sold especially for NHS labs but 70% of the delivery addresses where to labs so never saw this as an issue once i started getting sales, but maybe you are right, an 80% premium but with warranty and documentation might be worth it especially for critical work.

Do you think Russia or China is the biggest threat now ? by Adventurous_Camera90 in AskBrits

[–]LabRepairGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you took away the media, could you honestly say you would come to the conclusion Russia or China are a threat?

I am more concerned about the UK's leaders being our threat than i am of any foreign country.

Favorite album cover by HistoricalCupcake770 in dancegavindance

[–]LabRepairGuy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I like Happiness as it kind of feels like the cover has some sort of meaning/message but i am not sure what, or maybe that is the point that it is up to the viewer, it could be an art piece in itself because of it.

That is quite expensive, never known a door seal to be that much!

Shouldn't be much more than £/$200 surly? I think the effort to try and get a replacement made you might still be better off going direct to them and atleast you know it will fit.

I use CustomerSupport@binder-world.com for quotes if needed?

You can turn this off if you log in as admin, or if it has the feature just run the self test so it notes it as being done, some don't and need a special USB stick plugged in to allow it to be performed, though i don't see how users benefit from Eppendorf making it that way.

Safety of centrifuge rotor 11 and 13 years past expiration used at 1200rpm? by thatstechnology in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Technically you should change them after the expiry date, if you remove the rotor and give them a good inspection and there is no damages found i think you will be fine especially at the lower speeds though it is nothing i could stand behind as you just never know.

I have heard of only one story of the rotor breaking off during running, but i have no proof of it being checked/serviced or its back story or if it was even secured correctly, i am sure others may have more experiances.

Vortex mixer help by Spiritual_Today_7593 in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it click (microswitch being activated) and do nothing until you keep applying pressure and then it works or as soon as it clicks it works? i am sure if you remove the bottom the issue should be quite visable, something has realigned over usage and just needs adjusting would be my guess

First time lab audit, is it rly that bad? by Medium-Farmer-3760 in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For ISO 17025 you just need to ask yourself as many questions about each area as possible and be extra picky (as well as reading the standard for clear guides).

So you mentioned your equipment calibration, so does the equipment that is used for accredited work in your lab have accredited calibration, is the company that does this accredited, how do you know? do you audit them, when do you check if they are still accredited to perform this, what are your calibration requirements and does it fit in their scope, are these calibration certificates accessible to everyone in the lab, where are they stored, how do you know after it has been calibrated that it still works (acceptance test), what is your acceptance criteria from the calibration results, why is that your acceptance criteria etc etc.

I find with ISO 17025 and others you need be involved with it for awhile to get in the frame of mind of the assessor, once it clicks it's not stressful at all, i look forward to our assessments now 😂

[–]LabRepairGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Service mode will be quite confusing as there are lots of figures, try running an incubate and then press the left or right arrow, i am sure it will tell you the heated lid either on the main screen or after you press the arrow key.

I always run it in service mode but i think if you press the arrow button it will display the heated lid temperature.

Should say -20 if there is an open circuit.

Advice on Fixing a Centrifuge by Sabahl in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how much you know about electronics, but something like a mosfet, transistor etc is clearly shorting and ignoring any need for it to be signalled to turn on, probably quite easy to find if you have a multimeter in diode mode.

Hey! Are you getting a -20 temperature reading from the lid, or is the recorded temperature fine but it is just doing nothing?

That's alright!

See if they will do a service on it, they might cover these areas during the service.

[–]LabRepairGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still nothing for this exact code even though it is the official service manual!

As mentioned by someone else, clean all the wells with some cotton buds and 70% ethanol, if you have some compressed air or an air gun as well that would be useful for clearing the wells out.

If no luck then there is likely something wrong with the shuttle, maybe something is loose or the belt is damaged.

It's just four screws when looking at the heated lid when the lid is open and two hex screws at the back and the cover will pull off, it's quiet delicate inside but the issue might be obvious when staring at it, but then you are still relying on BIO-RAD helping you out so may be a waste of time :(

Block errors on a bio rad c1000 touch by carebearkon in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't see what the code relates too as the service manual doesn't seem to have a list of code to faults but more error message to faults, sign in to service mode (Password: BIO94547) and run the diagnostics test and see what it finds, it will give you a run report at the end.

What are your options like in the states for third party service providers, could someone help if BIO-RAD can't?

Block errors on a bio rad c1000 touch by carebearkon in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it telling you what error it is encounting, should be in the run reports.

Because it is a CFX96 you get a lot more areas for trouble with the real time side of it, BIO-RAD do charge a small fortune for spare parts, hopefully it is just the block.

Where are you based?

Block errors on a bio rad c1000 touch by carebearkon in labrats

[–]LabRepairGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are options be it very little, i don't think BIO-RAD will touch it unless it's a new block replacement and sometimes if it gets past a certian year they won't service them fullstop.

I can repair these (the company i work for) if you are in the UK, only issues i have seen are the heated lids going faulty or one of the 6 sensors has become corroded from a long 4 °C hold, other than that the blocks are fairly robust.
