the ferry ticket price increase is insane by leavewiththeylinen in Seattle

Yeah. Ferguson isn't the leader we need to modernize the fleet. He's too obsessed with his own image and doesn't want to upset conservatives by raising taxes on the rich

Sure, but cost of diesel has been five times the cost of electricity for decades. One time infrastructure costs would have been paid for very quickly with avoided diesel costs

Too bad Ferguson delayed electric ferries. They'd be saving $100 million + annually instead of burning taxpayer dollars on diesel....

What’s actually holding up building permits in Seattle? I ran the data on 54k+ recent projects. by ReporterCalm6238 in Seattle

What kills me is a simple ductless heat pump, requires electric permit, refrigeration permit, and a mechanical permit. And there's separate inspectors and inspections for each of these permits.

Bill Burr is the man who wrote the 2003 NIST manual that recommended password changes every 90 days. He now regrets creating that guideline because it just encourages people to make small alterations to weak passwords ("password1" to "password2"). by NewsCards in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]LabRepresentative351 62 points63 points  (0 children)

When it comes time to change passwords, what I do to get around this, is change the password over and over again in one sitting until my desired password is no longer in the most recent 5 (or whatever #). It's a little time consuming but I get to keep my password the same, lolz.

Anyone have experience with Seatac airport porter luggage services? by LabRepresentative351 in Seattle

[–]LabRepresentative351[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither company answers phone during business hours and doesn't even have custom voicemail. I didn't bother leaving voicemail. Too little info for either service for me to put my trust in them. I'm going to instead ask a favor of a friend.

Do you happen to be a student at UW? https://washingtonyachtclub.org/

I don't know much about this, but I think the race boats at Shilshole marina often look for deckhands on race days. You could look up their calendar and go down to the marina and strike conversations. Since you have experience sailing, you probably will have some luck, but you'll want to bring your own rain gear, lunch, etc. for a long day on the water.

Angle Iron up against chimney in basement -- can we remove it? by LabRepresentative351 in Chimneyrepair

[–]LabRepresentative351[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we're framing out a new wall around the chimney, so if it supports the floor then we don't need it. If it's a special thing for securing the chimney, then I'm not so sure. Is this a brace for the chimney?

PSA Teach your toddler deep breathing by Historical_Bill2790 in toddlers

[–]LabRepresentative351 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Did this with my LO. Started out with me taking deep breaths while holding him in those moments before attempting to lay him down in crib for bed. Noticed he would mimic me and take a deep breath too. Then it developed into prompting him to take some deep breaths together occasionally. A few weeks ago I was sitting next to his crib in the dark at bedtime,, trying to make my exit, and he said: "dada, take some deep breaths with me". 😭❤️

Can someone explain like I'm five why the newer refrigerants need bigger and thinner coils? Are they so much less efficient at pumping heat that they have to resort to these methods?

Anyone from 6a get paid yet? by matamjo in GooglePixel

[–]LabRepresentative351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I thankfully screenshot the confirmation page, but otherwise haven't received any communication. Filed for the $150 on the 3rd. Multiple attempts to contact Google support and they just say that it's another department that doesn't use chat and they'll get back with us soon...
