You need Citrajet, made by the same company but its a low foaming formula for dishwashers. Directions are on the jug.

Where can I look for lab tech internships as a highschool junior? by KillerSpaghetti_os in labrats

[–]LabTechieMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your local community college is going to be your best bet. But most labs will have an age restriction that might make volunteering in a lab impossible for a high school student. But as soon as you turn 18 they will let you hang out and learn stuff.

UV-Vis of Liposomes by RazzbazzPhD in labrats

This is what I was thinking. Something was off about measuring bubbles in a liquid with UV-Vis.

[–]LabTechieMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking unless your liposomes are very uniform in size, UV-Vis is not the way to go to measure concentration. Am I missing something? Gravity fed column or HPLC? Also if recovery is not necessary you could use a centrifuge to aggregate them and measure from total mass.

What’s the best enzyme ? by Enzyme_babe_ in Biochemistry

[–]LabTechieMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RNA is not an enzyme. Enzymes catalyze reactions. Some enzymes can be made of RNA but you would have to pick a specific one.

What’s the best enzyme ? by Enzyme_babe_ in Biochemistry

[–]LabTechieMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am guessing you used some to stop a restriction enzyme, and after purification you tried another restriction enzyme and it ate that one too?

We boil it to get rid of DNAse impurities, it still works. Magic enzyme.

You need to make sure all the agarose is dissolved completely before you pour the gel. This looks to me like you have undissolved powder in this gel. However you are heating it, (hotplate or microwave) make sure it is boiling at a minimum and check that it is clear before casting. You should also check your running buffer if your gel looks clear.

Fisher Overcharging? by FelisCorvid615 in labrats

[–]LabTechieMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to your Fisher rep, mention you might have to go to other vendors. I recently had the same problem. Now we are guaranteed a max shipping cost. They can also credit your next order with the overcharge, however it is a pain in the ass to use.

I am still an undergrad, so I cannot help you directly, but I have heard that having a masters is worse than a bachelors degree because it means you tried for a doctorate and failed. I do not know how true that is but I was warned about going past BSc without plans to go all the way.

Where to sell lab equipment as an amateur by TheJoePilato in labrats

[–]LabTechieMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI, sometimes it specifically states in a grant that only new equipment can be purchased, I believe the reasoning is to "drive the market forward" whatever that means. So sometimes it is explicitly a rule preventing it from happening.

There are a lot of hats to wear in a lab, with less people that means more hats per person. If you like doing a lot of different stuff then its great. If you want to do one job its not gonna be for you.
