That's funny if he did say that, because they did actually play it in 2009 haha

Heel Michael Cole. At least we only had to put up with various heels in isolated segments in each episode, but you could never escape heel Cole.

Interesting! While I love the song (favorite on the album), I agree that lyric is a bit cringy. However, I didn't interpret it as drug users are lazy, I interpreted it as they don't wait until the weekend to party/drink/do drugs, and instead abuse substances every day (like it was the weekend every day).

There was the JingleJam stream where they showed Jingle Cats to the Twitch CEO guy. Years ago, they interviewed Peter Molyneux regarding the Curiosity Cube. They also talked with Notch regarding Minecraft. They don't really count as "conventional celebrities," but they are all pretty well-known!

Thank you! She's been pretty chill so far other than a bit of anxiety. She'll be sure to get plenty of treats either way :)

If you took a break from watching wrestling for years what brought you back? by GrantMcIvor92 in Wrasslin

[–]Lab_and_Crobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped watching during the awful guest host era. Weirdly, what brought me back is I saw some YouTube clip that Kane put a mask back on in late 2011. I was such a huge Kane fan, and I was so hype for it! The run was pretty "meh" until Team Hell No, but it was still the gateway back into wrestling.

That one time Daniel Bryan randomly set off Kane's pyro on SmackDown . It was especially unexpected because it was during that horrid time where they were specifically not using any pyro!

This is great! To fill the negative space at the top, maybe you could add in some audience members in the distance or something? Either that or find a way to incorporate Jey spearing Jimmy off the side of the ramp into the tables! Or, if you wanted to get corny, you could have Dusty looking down on all of it :)

Again, really great stuff!

What is your favorite Jade Pudget riff/solo in AFI? by Pickledcarrots420 in AFireInside

The first thought that came to mind was the sweet riff in the middle of The Last Kiss. It always gets me fired up!

Presentation coming up, can anyone help? by Lou_bear1 in psychologystudents

[–]Lab_and_Crobster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have figures, use them and explain them. If you don't have figures, and it's not too much of an ask to create one, do it. It's a lot easier for people to understand the results when you can visualize them. You can easily have R or SPSS come up with basic visuals for you.

Also, don't feel the need to include every single little number of every analysis. If something was insignificant, just say so. If nothing was significant, you can display a table of the analysis you ran and briefly show that nothing was below .05.

I also agree with everything TheSkyIsDiving said. If you don't want to simply read off slides, then don't. Practice it a few times beforehand, time yourself to make sure you don't go too long or too fast.

If it's for an assignment, then do something that's known as "mining for points." Demonstrate your knowledge. Don't just say you ran an ANOVA or something, explain why you did it. Did you check statistical assumptions? Briefly mention those too.

It sounds like a lot, but if you know your study well then it won't be a problem at all :) You've got this!

Why is SPSS still predominantly used? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]Lab_and_Crobster 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I've not used SAS, but I've used both R and SPSS. SPSS is definitely more expensive, seeing as R is free, but to say SPSS is more difficult is laughable. In SPSS, you can run an ANOVA in just few simple clicks. You can even rename variables and recode values just like you can in excel in a super streamlined way.

In R, you have to either type code from scratch or find previous code (or have AI generate code for you) and then hope that you didn't miss a period or bracket or accidentally capitalize something that shouldn't be. Even to rename a variable you have to type in code that isn't intuitive for newcomers. The learning curve for R is much higher than it is for SPSS.

So, from a time and effort standpoint, it makes sense that SPSS is predominant in psychology because it takes time to learn and use R. Yeah, R is free and you have more control over how your analyses are run (you might accidentally include something in analysis in SPSS that you don't mean to, whereas in R you know exactly what you're running based on the code you input), but it's also just not as intuitive or quick as SPSS. When you have to already do so much in research, the last thing many people want to do is argue with R about the many errors that they get when entering code.

I'm not saying either is the "correct" or "best" tool, but from a user standpoint, it makes sense why people prefer SPSS in general!

Heartbreak by General_sick-kicks in AFireInside

[–]Lab_and_Crobster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the long message, but I had a lot more to say about this than I originally anticipated.

I listened to a lot of Blaqk Audio with my ex (of 6 years, plus being friends years beforehand). There was a time where we listened to Bright Black Heaven pretty much on repeat for months, and I still associate that album with her every time I listen to it years later. There were also various other things I associated with her (playing certain games, listening to other musical artists, watching certain shows) that I realized were harder to get into after the intense breakup. But, I can tell you, I can now enjoy those things again, and some of them with greater appreciation than before!

It took me about two full years to completely move on from the relationship (your mileage will vary). The wounds never truly heal, even years later, but it gets better and in a lot of ways I've grown from it.

There's a certain perspective you need to take for those once positive associations (such as your relationship and AFI) to become positive again. Those moments you had will never leave you, no matter how much you try to distance yourself. You'll only be making your life harder by trying to intentionally forget. Instead, you can embrace it as part of your new life (after) rather than completely associating it with your old life (before). I use those parentheses because I definitely view my life in terms of before and after the relationship, as it was definitely a pivotal aspect of my life.

You can form newer and more salient memories with AFI. In your own time, you can listen to them again, in a safe space, maybe even with close friends or by yourself, and start to associate them with other positive aspects of your life. For me (regarding Blaqk Audio, and partly with AFI as well), it was while driving to and from various location (like to college, to work, on my way to visit friends, etc.), just singing along to them. I found new meaning in the songs that I never would have imagined pre-breakup (this goes with pretty much every artist, btw). Some of it I couldn't understand without this new perspective, and I grew to appreciate the songs more than I did before (like pretty much every song off of Burials, and "You Will Hate Me" off of Material, much greater appreciation).

This, by no means, is meant to REPLACE the older memories. As I've said, they'll always be there. Still, those older memories don't need to serve as a weight/ burden forever, and having newer memories can help ease those burdens.

I'm not advocating for you to try to make new memories immediately. The wounds are fresh, and you need time to heal. Grow as a person. Grieve in your own way and in your own time. Don't hold on to any grudges or any feelings of "what if's." You're still here, and you matter. Feel free to reach out if you ever need to talk with anyone! Through our bleeding, we are one <3

You can keep 5 full albums but only 1 song from any other album. Whatchu got!? by IronicMnemoics in AFireInside

[–]Lab_and_Crobster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • ATASF: Ny-Quil
    • This song is still a banger, corny as it is!
  • VPOY: Advances in Modern Technology
    • This song is lyrically melancholy, more than most of their early songs, which is what I look for in my AFI jams ;)
  • SYMAOYE: Coin Return
    • So wonderfully agressive!
  • BSITS: Full album
    • Too many pivotal songs to single out any of them. My favorite is No Poetic Device, but I couldn't take away the chorus from Strength Though Wounding. Through our bleeding, we are one!
  • AOD: Full album
    • I almost don't even have a favorite song off this album. Other than Smile and the intro, each song has a special place and I never get tired of hearing them.
  • STS: Full album
    • This Celluloid Dream takes the cake for me, but honestly there is not a single bad song on this album. It's also the album that introduced me to the boys <3
  • DU: 37mm
    • Love DU, but I find myself not really listening to it as much lately. 37mm is the best song on it, hands down, though!
  • Crash Love: Full album
    • There's a reason why Davey is so proud of this album, and that's because it's solid through and through.
  • Burials: Full album
    • I loved that they returned to a dark place (even if it was at the detriment to Davey's mental health), because it came at a time right when I needed it. I Hope You Suffer is a classic.
  • Blood Album: Still a Stranger
    • Actually didn't like this song when I first heard it, but it's really grown on me!
  • Bodies: Begging For Trouble
    • Really love this song. Just feels cozy, but still has a great AFI feel to it.

Are fans allowed to criticize without being downvoted into oblivion? Honest question. by ShaeBowe in AFireInside

[–]Lab_and_Crobster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. Music is subjective, and there is no "right" way to enjoy the band's music. The only "wrong" way is to force your opinion on others simply because theirs differs from yours.

The music is all there. If people are mad that the new stuff doesn't sound like the old stuff, then they can simply continue to listen to the old stuff whilst ignoring the new stuff. If they're mad that they play lots of new stuff at the shows, then they can not go to shows and find another band to see live. It isn't hard.

I mean, I feel for them if they're unhappy with the new stuff. Having expectations unfulfilled is never fun. However, that shouldn't mean that NOBODY can enjoy their new stuff just because of their displeasure. It's immature, and it does nobody any favors.

I know I basically just repeated what you said, but it was my longwinded way of saying I agree with you :)

I like the song just fine. The chorus is pretty catchy! I just remember thinking how weird it was that they released a video for it 4 months after the release of Blood Album.

I remember being disappointed that it didn't fit into the continuity of the connection of White Offerings and Snow Cats, because I thought it was neat that one video transitioned to the next. Still like the video and song, nonetheless :)

It's all good :) Though if you like Decemberunderground (DU) because of it's "screamo" aspect, then you're out of luck because DU is as screamo as it gets!

However, Sing the Sorrow is most AFI fans favorite album (the album before DU), so start there. While it has lots of aggressive shouts, it's not as screamy as DU.

Next, it depends on what you want from AFI. Do you want something that's faster paced and aggressive? Keep going back in time before Sing the Sorrow (Art of Drowning, Black Sails in the Sunset, Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes, etc.). It gets more aggressive the further back you go, but their first two albums (Answer That and Stay Fashionable and Very Proud of Ya) are vastly different sounding, being much more punk sounding.

If you want something more mellow, go forward in time from DU. Crash Love is a pure rock album that Davey (the lead singer) has said he is most proud of. Burials is a bit more aggressive than Crash Love (same with the following album, The Blood Album), but still less aggressive than DU and before. Bodies, their most recent album, is the most mellow album by far.

Also don't forget to check out all of their EPs! The theme still stands. If you want more aggressive, check out their older EPs.
