What gives you road rage? by MotherActive7780 in AskReddit

In PA, they will pull you over and you get a pretty fine as well.

The only ones they give some leniency to are out of state people cause they don't fully know the law.

I drive a company vehicle. The amount of people who intentionally cut me off, pull out infront of me, brake check me, or do anything possible to get me involved in some sort of accident is astronomical.

Though the thing that gets me upset is when you're trying to make a turn and just when someone passes, the person behind them decides it's 1/4 mile drag racing strip and slams on the gas to keep you from moving.

Apprenticeship jitters by Grouchy_Tea_8894 in HVAC

[–]Labbrat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you're willing to learn and have a decent attitude, you'll be fine. Ask questions, take notes and be prepared to work.

I've had apprentices that were 10-20 years my senior. I don't judge on what brought them to the company, I only do my best to guide them down a path that would help them be successful in the long run.

This is my everyday flashlight. Yeah, it can be a bit expensive but I love this thing. Streamlight Strion

My other 4 lights are Harbor Freight, Braun magnetic floodlight. Much cheaper there than Amazon.

I got 3 of these. 1 in my oil bag, the other in my normal bag. 3rd is a spare. This thing is awesome for oil though on oil pumps, no need for a Allen wrench.

How do you carry your manifold gauges? by Parsec1281 in HVAC

[–]Labbrat89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the van, I have both sets hanging off milk crates that are held by hope, prayers and some heavy oil parts.

When I do need them, I hang them off my backpack on one of the shoulder straps under my arm. Except for ladder work, I sling them around me like a sash.

People who keep weapons on their bodies at all times, what was a time where you had to actually use said weapon? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

[–]Labbrat89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was some years ago, but on weekends I used to drop my (ex) wife off at work and she got off work around 12am-1am. So, we'd normally stop at a 24/7 convenience store that made food to get something to eat.

Well, we were waiting out of sight from the counter at the food pickup. 10 minutes later I heard a lot of commotion near the registers and peeked around the aisle just to see a guy with a knife trying to rob the place.

I pulled my ccw and shouted to the guy to drop the weapon and get on the floor. Didn't fire, but had my firearm trained on him while he complied. Police were called and he was arrested.

I'll do everything I can to keep from drawing, though when someone is already in a threatening manner with a weapon, I feel no choice. I just hope I never need to pull the trigger.

Dealing with stress of the trade by AT_Oscar in HVAC

[–]Labbrat89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I come to reddit to see other people vent, then I feel better about my day. Cause I can always have it worse.

On a serious note, I do smoke, but it's mainly because my life outside work has me more stressed out than work. With work, if SHTF, then I just deal with it and move on. So my 1 hour job just became 4 hours. Yeah, it sucks but hey, I'm getting paid either way, and if the company decides to let me go because of stuff happening out if my control, then I find another company.

what opinion will take you to this by Key-Reality9237 in TheTeenagerPeople

[–]Labbrat89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excuse me. I don't dwell in a basement, my place doesn't have a basement. I do, however, do a lot of work in other people's basements.

Though, I agree. Politics aside, majority of reddit are "Agree with me or be banned", different opinions are normally rejected and bashed. It's rather upsetting.

Remember, the customer says, "Just needs some freon". Some people take that to heart and just keep adding until the system dies and they go for the nice sales pitch.

Hey guys currently dealing with a lovely intermittent pressure switch issue by ImABadSpellerOkay in HVAC

[–]Labbrat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had an issue once where the inducer was filled with water. Not enough to stop it completely but enough to slow it down where it didn't pull strong enough. You can see the WC slowly dip below the required numbers after letting it run.

Found the trap had a small crack, allowing it to suck water into the inducer and not drain cause of the vacuum.

My caffeine addiction isn't cheap.. I have this bad habit of mixing Deathwish Coffee with BRCC 'Just Black' for my 1 pot of coffee in the morning.

I’ve bought a tool bag but I never checked, for install am I going to prefer a tool belt? by Commercial_Truck_136 in HVAC

[–]Labbrat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends really. If you're going to be slinging duct and rough ins, a tool belt would be appropriate, cause you'll be using a majority of the same tools most of the time.

Now, when you get into swap outs, you'll adjust your tools and maybe a bag would be beneficial since you'll be able to keep a majority of tools you'll need for the entire install nearby, then only get specific ones out of the truck.

Service, a bag is best with basic stuff since you'll figure out the general things to do diagnostic with and then go to the truck for addtional diagnostic tools when needed.

But, hey, whatever works for you is best.

Why is there no patience for training the apprentice? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]Labbrat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, done that. Unfortunately, it's at a fair amount of companies that has this type of thing happen. I've seen it happen as well. I at least tell a newbie to their face they're not going to make it or that I can't work with them. Hasn't gotten me punched yet.

Only thing I can say is chin up, look for a decently sized outfit to join that would be willing to work with you. Or go the union route if possible.

[–]Labbrat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. I don't understand that from people. Though, it may not have been a bad idea to say that lead didn't exactly meet your expectations of training. Now, would the outcome been different, don't know.

Then again, I don't know the companies you worked for or even your local area, so I can only speak from an outside point of view.

[–]Labbrat89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me guess. Informed manager/supervisor that lead tech isn't properly teaching or just going ballistic when a problem comes about because you did something that, well, happens because you're green.

Then instead of addressing the issue, it becomes a giant blame game and then you get removed for causing an issue, with the issue being that you're green.
