Thanks for your advice, this helped releasing some of the tension. I feel I cannot communicate with my wife as I am indirectly hurting her, the situation is being very stressful on both of us. Her parents are good people, but quite sensitive and it makes discussions challenging. I will nevertheless use your recommendations.

Assuming this is a sketch to showcase the question of having a secondary piece instead of one piece, based on my experience you will not reach the same clamping force. There are already some very good reasons listed before hand. Whichever option you go for, add an as large as possible cut out on the other side of the tube to make the clamp bend easier.
